I have been busy creating the Fairy Deck which involves frequent trips to Nature. Oh the horrors! Ha ha. It’s starting to get buggy out there in the aftermath of Arizona monsoon season, but all part fairies are drawn to Nature and need it to survive.
There’s the gentle signs that Fall is just around the corner. Why must Summer go by so quickly?
Often the kind of healing magic of plants that you need surrounds you and is right in your backyard. ROSEMARY is really great for grounding and focus and just happens to be growing like crazy in my yard right now. The bush is almost as big as the tree! I know I need this essence for sure, especially while finishing this deck.
The Snapdragon was very quiet in the middle summer heat but has bounced back with all the rains. This is another great plant with healing qualities that include helping with headaches and tension. I wonder if it will help me with Hayfever.
One of the new cards has been revealed. Can you guess what letter it is?
Where is your favorite place in Nature to visit? Is it your own backyard? Or a park or forest?

Glad you asked. Often students and readers ask me this. Rather then go into a long diatribe that makes their eyes glass over, I share this video I made.
Cool, huh? Flower essences are so great for working with sensitive people because they are non-toxic and we are so darn sensitive that the essence goes straight to what needs healing in a loving, gentle way, giving tons of us insights.

My pumpkins are exploding and taking over. Lots of leaves. Awaiting the pumpkins…
I love their leaves. I’ve wanted to plant pumpkins for the last three years I’ve been at the Fairy Castle. I’m so excited.
Here they are in their infant stage. Pumpkin is a fabulous flower essence for clearing things out that need a little push.
They were just starting to make leaves here.
There they are. The cute little leaves budding up through the ground from seeds.
what will they look like?

What are flower essences and why are they so cool?
I discovered flower essences long ago. It wasn’t an instant pull; I was actually quite skeptical about them and a little wary. Like most new things, we make that step and surprised we hadn’t found that new thing that will help us all along. One thing I do know, the more I’ve used flower essences, the more I have felt this deep bond with Nature.
Many of my students and folks coming to this site have questions about what essences are, so I thought I’d have a little Q and A.
Q: What the heck are flower essences?
A: Check out this video:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=e7OqBx2eV3k
Q: Are flower essences like regular medicines?
A: No. Since there is nothing inside of them that is physical material, you aren’t reacting to a substance. They are safe to take with other medicines.
Q: Are flower essences cure-alls? I can take HOLLY for anger, and have no anger?
A: I wish! There are some essences that are “stabilizing” and those are great for reaching for immediate relief, like BACH RESCUE REMEDY will calm you right away in a scary situation. SALVIA is very emotionally calming. ASPEN will help alleviate great fear. These essences help in the moment. Some, like the PANSIES will help ease grief and sadness over time. Other essences will illuminate with use WHY you are angry or upset underneath and deal with an underlying pattern you keep reliving. As you take the essence, great insight will come up that will help you change that pattern or thinking and give you a new perspective.
Q: How do you take them?
A: I like putting a few drops in my water or under the tongue once a day if you are sensitive; 2-4 times a day otherwise.
Q: Can you take the wrong essence?
A: Many teachers say that if you take the wrong essence, you won’t resonate and you won’t respond. I found with sensitive folks we often respond to everything being so empathic. If you take an essence and you feel off or wonky it’s probably the wrong one and might be too strong.
Q: Can animals use essences?
A: Absolutely! My girls will lick them from my hand, or I can put a few drops on their bodies. I usually put the drops on their food or water.

Does anyone else feel this way?
I went shopping in the garden department of Home Depot, one of my favorite places. The flowers are amazing! Everywhere I looked there were blooms and color. I felt home.
I wanted to drink up the energy, like my soul was feeding.
I thought about the times I lived without Nature. How did I survive?
Do you think they’d notice me sleeping among the marigolds?

Do you recall me sharing my little sunflower that I thought initially was a weed?
She got a little bigger.
We’ve had lots of rain here and lots of rain makes sunflowers feel happy and fed. It’s amazing how much you can thrive and blossom with lots of nurturance and lots of what you need. We are very much the same!

“I wanted to know if experimenting with making my own essences from roses I picked would be just as powerful. I found out that these essences were just as effective and even more tailored for me and my family. I was told that the roses I was attracted to and that came into my life were the right energies for me. So, the roses you are attracted to, are perfect for you!”

I thought she was a weed. I called her my little tree and didn’t pull her. She kept growing. And then a little flower peeked out.
She’s Ronni-size now. In the middle of the rock lawn, where I didn’t plant a thing, she emerged.
She moves towards the sun, and she is teaching me to be on the lookout for unexpected magic.

The Mulberry trees in my fairy yard are HUGE this summer and seem very happy. They need haircuts, though.
I can sit under the Mulberry tree and he feels like a big umbrella covering me.
I asked the tree for permission and made an essence from his leaf. The healing pattern of this tree is of strength and endurance. Gives you the feeling of dusting off your pants, standing up, and able to keep going when you feel discouraged and drained.
I invited Emma to come sit with me under the tree. She had to move from her cushy outdoor puppy bed. So spoiled.
Totally dig the Mulberry essence, and look forward to sitting under the tree’s leaves often this summer. It’s available in my Essence store here.

This week I explore my non-negotiables.
What’s a non-negotiable? I’ve been learning from my backyard. When I rented my Fairy Castle, it was the yard that I fell in love with. I dig roses and there’s quite a few, including the kind that smell really good. This backyard is like a little park I can sit in with my Emma Lou and swing back and forth as we admire the beauty.
When I water the plants, I watch their little leaves reach upwards in a smile. When I forget, in the inhospitable Arizona heat, I will find leaden leaves and a definite frown. It’s simple, but I am those plants. When I nurture and feed me, I pump up with color. I’m a shiny, happy thing. When I forget to water me, well…
But here’s the thing. I’ve taken in through my adult life some seriously faulty beliefs–that messed-up perception I talked about in my last post. It’s taken awhile and lots of work, but I am seeing those beliefs that include:
only when I make enough money will I deserve to have some rest
only when I give what others want will I have support
only when I work 80 hours a week and show I’m responsible will I get a pat on the head and what I need
Yuck!!! I am seeing that none of these beliefs work for me. I am sure you have some ONLYs in your brain swirling around. These need to be pulled! And in their place, I plant my non-negotiables.
In order to thrive as a Ronni plant, I need those non-negotiables. Having this yard and visiting Indian Gardens frequently I realize with certainty I MUST have constant interaction with Nature. It’s not lazy or irresponsible to take time out in Nature. On the contrary, I find it’s productive: I’m balanced and less emotional or reactive to other people’s stuff when I have time in the yard or the forest. It also feeds my creativity and my curiosity, which becomes many classes and books.
And in my usual, creative, visual fashion, I’ve been creating a chart to keep track of my non-negotiables (each drawn into a circle) as they come along. (To see it, Go Subscribe to My Newsletter.)
If I follow this line of thought, I also look at what waters me and what doesn’t. Translated, this means, what supports me and what doesn’t? Where do I feel SEEN, HEARD, SUPPORTED and APPRECIATED? Where do I feel ignored and forgotten, unimportant, or even poisoned? Let’s not focus on those weeds, just pull em’ out!
What are your non-negotiables and where do you feel watered?

I am having so much fun making worksheets for the Flower Essence class (FEC1001) and the Empath Skills (ASC300) class. I’m thinking it’s a good thing when a teacher is having a ball writing and creating for a class. That joy should translate to the lessons over to the students, right? Anyway, I wanted the worksheets to mimic a kid’s fun workbook. Why should kids have all the fun?

It’s Spring! It’s Spring! And being outside for me in the forest or the garden is like food for me and my fellow “half-fairies.” Can you hear the call of Nature? My trees are getting their first little buds, the rose bushes are showing some life, and the birds are returning to my backyard trees. I can feel my spirit sigh in relief.
All this bursting of Nature is inspiring my fairy detective spirit. It’s not enough for me to just sit in Nature, I want to learn from it. I picked my first dandelions to make a flower essence the other day and was guided to make a few crystal essences according to their colors.
My first choice of flowers to buy at Home Depot was Pansies. Pansies are so wonderful for healing any sadness or heart issues. I grabbed the colors I was most attracted to — really striking white with purple insides. Their energy feels amazingly calming and wise. I am sure I will make an essence from them with permission. I need to go back there — Home Depot — problem is, I’m like a kid in a candy store there. I get that flower-high-thing going and it’s a little hard to leave. It feels like Home, so that store is correctly named. If I could, I’d probably go home with a hundred dollars worth of flowers. Hmmm…that’s an idea. Time to record my findings in my Repertory pages. Last year I made the purple pansy essence. This one feels somewhat different.
