Speaking of books, nice segue huh?
It’s going to be beautiful when it’s done. I’m really proud of what it’s shaping up to be, but sometimes you just have to take a break and sketch a bunny.
A bunny with a floral head dress. Because…. well she’s what popped out of my pencil!
Oh, how I would love to work in YA novels. I hope one day to get the chance.
But until then, I’ll keep practicing. Here’s a sketch, I started while waiting in the car for my daughter. Such fun inspiration to draw… and those tween kids are rich in expression!

Ethel was always a little bit different than the other sheep.
He gives me but a few seconds… I sketch his outline. Thirty seconds to catch the essence of a squirrel.
He’s my live model.
I pay him with corn.
So what to do while you’re waiting? Maybe you’re waiting for that next assignment, that next conference, or contest?
Well, I’m going back and practicing all the stuff that sometimes gets overlooked when we’re on a tight deadline or have gotten a little rusty, or maybe just too close to see it. Ya know what I mean? I believe that you’re never to old or experienced to learn something, all over again. It’s being creative with your time and nurturing your art. So go create something while you wait!

I have a little character named Ruby Rue that I put up for an IF post way back when….. anyhoo… she comes with a poem that explains her predicament. She’s one of my favorites!
I’ve decided to dust her off and expand the poem to fit in a dummy book.
Here are a few of the many preliminary sketches of her!

A long time ago, in the underground realm, where there are no lies or pain, there lived a Princess who dreamed of the human world. She dreamed of blue skies, soft breeze, and sunshine. One day, eluding her keepers, the Princess escaped. Once outside, the brightness blinded her and erased every trace of the past from her memory. She forgot who she was and where she came from. Her body suffered cold, sickness, and pain. Eventually, she died. However, her father, the King, always knew that the Princess’ soul would return, perhaps in another body, in another place, at another time. And he would wait for her, until he drew his last breath, until the world stopped turning..

So this is my cover and end papers for my sketchbook. I glued the front in but not the back, as I’m not sure how thick this sketchbook is going to end up. I’m really having fun with this project!Page 0ne

The children soon took notice that Father’s not all there.
