We hop straight from the Quaker Craft Fair to Scary Stories around the Fire!!! So much hopping. Check out our Lehigh Valley Storytelling Guild's newsletter about Saturday night's event at Jordan UCC, 1837 Church Road, Allentown, PA 18102. They have a nice big fire circle in their Peace Garden.
Dress warmly. Bring a donation of non-perishable food for Second Harvest Food Bank or the Pennsylvania Avenue Interfaith Food Pantry. (You get $3 off the admission price if you donate.) Bring blankets. There are benches around the circle.

The Lehigh Valley Storytelling Guild does a lot with kids. We have a Children's Series of performances. This past year one of our members planned a Teen Story Jam. And we host the Pennsylvania Youth Storytelling Showcase. What we don't have yet is a group of young members.
So, some other storytellers and I are starting the Young Tellers Guild of the Lehigh Valley. It's not as easy as it sounds. We need meeting places. And resources. And time and travel. And coaching supplies. And most of all, we need kids.
I have started a GoFundMe campaign to raise funds to provide resources, to find meeting spaces, to encourage libraries and schools to hosts meetings and to pay travel expenses for storytellers who work with these groups.

On Saturday, (Dec. 16th, 2013), John Lithgow will present his one man show, Stories by Heart, at Zoellner Arts Center, Lehigh University. I will be in that audience because stories are dear to my heart.
Members of the Lehigh Valley Storytelling Guild will tell their own stories from 7 to 7:30 pm. (Not me. I just want to listen this month.)
It will be a wonderful event. Meet me in the lobby!
The Lehigh Valley Storytelling Guild's Fright Night events will be Saturday October 12th at Dutch Springs off of Hanoverville Road. This is an outdoor event so dress warmly. Click here for details.
I will tell on October 12th.
The other event is at Godfrey Daniels on October 30th - for those who prefer warmth while their blood runs cold.
Both performances charge admission. Both will be super scary and fun!
It's about time I did another Storytelling Thursday!
ANNOUNCING: The Children's Series for 2013 at Godfrey Daniels, the First and Third Sundays in January, February and March. All these events start at 2 pm and each Sunday a different awesome, amazing, delightful and very talented storyteller will regale children of all ages. (All members of the Lehigh Valley Storytelling Guild, I might add.)
PLUS, Cops'n'Kids will be there to hand out FREE BOOKS!!!! Heaven! I'm in heaven!
This is the BIGGEST BARGAIN in live children's entertainment in the entire Lehigh Valley - if not all of Eastern PA and BEYOND! (It's so exciting I have to overuse my CAPITAL LETTERS AND EXCLAMATION POINTS!) Admission is only $4.50 but that includes free books and a cookie - or fountain drink. And children under 5 can get in for free.

I'd like to propose that we declare a War on War! I propose that this is really the only War anyone needs to declare. Once we stop Warring, we can move on to promoting Peace! Peace for EVERYONE on the entire planet. So join me in my War on War - of every kind. End Wars on Christmas, Women, Marriage, I Haz Cheezburgers, Texting, Small Children Who Pick Their Noses, Immigration, Proper Grammar, Afghanistan, The West Bank, Wall Street, Islam, Christianity, Judaism, Hindus, Hawaiian Shirts. Stop it, NOW!! Stop with all the unnecessary carnage and verbiage - ESPECIALLY the verbiage - although actually carnage is worse so I am being a tad tongue-in-cheek here.
I declare a War on all Wars. Peace is the only way.

This is Storytelling Thursday. A lot of storytellers share stories that promote understanding and peace. And a lot of organizations document true stories of people helping one another. Here are some of those tellers and organizations:
Peace Tales - with Sarah Malone. Sarah shares stories that encourage peaceful solutions and she works with organizations that promote independence for all. Check out her links and stories.
Stories of Peace and Justice - from the peace and Justice Support Network of the Mennonite Church USA - lets people tell their own stories of non-violent interaction and neighborliness. Very cool.
Peacekids.net is a colorful site offering stories and resources for promoting peaceful thinking among children.
I have to include the
American Friends Service Committee site, even though it is an organization site and not a place to find "stories" packaged as such. But Friends promote peace everyday, across the globe, across every human barrier. Go Friends!
Local tellers whose work promotes peace and understanding include
Mary Wright,
Larry Sceurman,
Eva Grayzel and
Robin Reichert. We all do, really. Check out the
Lehigh Valley Storytelling Guild's site to find out who we are.
Robin, in particular, has started on a journey of spiritual awakening. Her website doesn't do her justice.
It's Whatever Wednesday here and I have so much on my mind that if I did not control my flailing fingers - Wow! Be grateful for my reticence.
I uploaded a story fragment on Scribd. Take a look and let me know what you think. There is a story behind the names in this story. Someday, I might share the story-behind.

Today's storyteller of note is Chaz Kiernan. Chaz is, among other things, the Coordinator of the Lehigh Valley Storytelling Guild, a Mark Twain impersonator, a Grimm's fairy tale enthusiast and blogger, the Pennsylvania representative for the National Youth Storytelling Showcase and a superb storyteller. GO, CHAZ!!! And his Lost Dollar stories are pretty darn neat, too.
ALSO, Chaz writes a
blog where he dissects a fairy tale - usually from the Brothers Grimm - every month. Mind-tickling insights partnered with cultural background make these blog posts fascinating to read.
The Lehigh Valley is lucky to have Chaz right here among us!
Tellabration is coming! Saturday is the International Day of Storytelling! All across the world people will gather to listen to stories.
Here in the Lehigh Valley, the
Lehigh Valley Storytelling Guild will present
four FREE performances at
two separate venues.
At
Barnes & Noble Booksellers in the Lehigh Valley Mall, Tellabration will start off with a performance by
Kathy Long at 10:30 am. Kathy is a teller from the Slate Belt, well loved for her humor and her original spin on traditional stories. This program is open to children and families. The program is co-sponsored by the
Parkland Community Library.
Across the Valley at the
Nazareth Center for the Arts at 30 Belvidere Street in Nazareth PA, stories begin at 3 pm
Tina Fowler , a local teller with wit and wisdom, will tell stories for children of all ages at 3 pm. Please bring a canned food donation for the Nazareth Food Bank.
Both venues will host evening performances.
Robin Berry , an inspirational teller and young teller,
Kelly Fitzpatrick, will tell stories for adults and teens at Barnes and Noble in the Lehigh Valley Mall, starting at 7 pm. This program is also co-sponsored by the Parkland Community Library.
Eva Grayzel, has touched audiences across the country. She will be the featured teller at a 7:30 pm performance at the Nazareth Center of the Arts. This performance is designed for adults and teens.
Join the worldwide movement to share stories at one of these fine, free to all, performances this Saturday.
