1. Nucking futs

Last week the superdrive in my MacBook died. No more playing of CDs, watching of DVDs, loading of software, or adding of audiobooks to my iPod. Kaput. The bugger costs $280 to replace, which was way more money than I cared to spend.

So...I, um...

...I bought one of those shiny new MacBook Pros instead. Because they're so much cheaper and all...

2. And you thought Little Black Sambo was...special?

Why Helen Bannerman would be doomed to self-publishing, were she alive today:

See, you don't have to be racist to flop in children's lit today - didactic and bizarro will do just fine.

3. Sorry, I'm not THAT Sarah Miller

No, I didn't write this article on Rielle Hunter. I, um, actually had to Google "Rielle Hunter" after two journalists contacted me this afternoon asking for interviews to find out what they were talking about. Yep, I'm that oblivious sometimes.

Oh, and I didn't write Inside the Mind of Gideon Rayburn, either.

If you're looking for that other Sarah Miller who writes articles and things, this is about as close as I can get you:

4. Verdict on BREAKING DAWN?

Have you seen the Amazon reader reactions to Breaking Dawn? Yowza. I've been steadfastly indifferent to the series so I'm not at all fit to judge, but I don't recall ever seeing so many thumbs-down reviews on such a hot seller, particularly from devoted fans. Being a grain-of-salt kind of  girl, I also prefer to get my info from folks whose taste I'm actually familiar with, as opposed to random strangers on the web.

So what say you: is it really that much of a bummer?

(Thanks to Fuse #8 for the heads-up.)

5. Funny stuff

If you haven't before, go check out Megan Jeffery's blog, Beetlegrass. She makes these hilarious finger puppets and writes funny and I just love stopping there with my coffee, which often comes out my nose if I'm not careful.
