2. Anna Monika Jost

Olivetti poster

Olivetti / Charter Hall Nairobi 1966 Offset 84×59.5 cm

Stunning poster by Anna Monika Jost. I’m guessing all the circular shapes are either gumball’s or typewriter keys. I’m betting on the later (secretly wishing it’s the gumballs though). I wonder if all the letters and numbers spell out some sort of code. Wait a minute, Olivetti is in Italy. Maybe its a code prediciting the release date of the Davinci code part 15 starring Tom Hank’s son. Whoops, sorry I got sidetracked. Back to Jost. Anyone have any info on her? I couldn’t find much online.

3. The Raymond Savignac Olivetti Print giveaway, again!

Raymond savignac olivetti print

Last December we gave away a Raymond Savignac poster. Since then we’ve received emails from people interested in the poster, so we decided to give one more away.

poster details: This is not an original, but rather a reissue of the original poster Savignac created for Olivetti in 1953. We received this copy directly from the Olivetti Society in Italy.

Sounds great, but how do I enter to win?

1. Leave a message in the comments section of the post. (Maybe say hello or tell us why you’d like the poster, just keep it short)

2. Subscribe to our free RSS or Email updates (seen in the upper right corner of the website). If you already subscribe, you’re all set, no need to subscribe again.

On Sept 1st, we will randomly select one name from a trash can.

We will announce the winner on Sept 1st in the GRAIN EDIT RSS FEED + EMAIL UPDATES. We will not be announcing the winner on the website, so you need to subscribe to either the RSS or Email updates to know if you won or not.

so go for it! enter now.

Giovanni Pintori exhibition catalog c2003

Giovanni Pintori won a scholarship in 1930 (at the age of 18) to study at the ISIA in Monza under design heavyweights like Marcello Nizzoli and Edoardo Persico. After graduation he was invited to work for Olivetti in the Development & Advertising Office located in Milan. Three years later he would become the head of the department. Over the next 27 years he created an impressive body of work for Olivetti that would earn him a lasting international reputation.

This book was made in conjunction with a 2003 exhibition that highlighted many of Pintori’s designs for Olivetti.

6. The Indian in the Cupboard, by Lynne Reid Banks

This story is about how Omri gets a medicine cupboard from one of his brothers, and his mother helped him find a key to match it. Then he got a little plastic Indian for his birthday, also. He went up to his room and opened the cupboard and put the Indian in the cupboard. The next morning when Omri woke up he heard this weird sound coming from the cupboard. He looked inside and the Indian was moving and was a living thing! He opened the cupboard and the little Indian actually talked. His name was Little Bear. What will Omri do with him??

What I like about the story is the story is very exciting when it gets to a part that is kind of scary not like scary when someone disappears. Like for example, one of Omri's brothers' rat went into the vents underneath his floor and Little Bear had to go in there and get the key because it got lost in there and Little Bear almost died. I read the Indian in the Cupboard when I was in fourth grade and I loved it and I wanted to read it again so that's why I just bought it instead of going to the library and using my card so I found it in a thrift store and bought it. I really thought it was a good book so I thought why don't I do a review on it? And I am sure kids at school will read it. If you don't like books and you aren't much of a reader, this book really got my imagination into it and couldn't put it down. So this book might change your mind about books -- I'm not saying like you HAVE to change your mind but it is a really great book and the reason why you should also read it is because it is SO great!!
