1. Most Overlooked Books of 2012: A Literary Mixtape

What book do you wish more people had read this year? People love to create Best of the Year lists every December, but we prefer to spotlight the most overlooked books each season.

Below, we are linking to free samples of the Most Overlooked Books of 2012. Share your favorite overlooked book in the comments section, and we’ll add a sample to our growing list.

To get the list started, we took selected titles from Slate’s long list of underrated books and Flavorwire’s Notable Books Unfairly Overlooked by ‘The New York Times’ list.

2. “You Made Me the Best Muxtape I Have”

The Muxtape site is currently all the rage, and of course the librarians are at the forefront. Exhibit A: Library muxtape by Jessamyn West. Find lots of muxtapes (online mix tapes that don’t require any plugins or downloads) to listen to on the site’s home page or on the Muxtape Wiki. It’s a great way to hear some new music, especially when it’s posted by someone you know.

Hat tip to Aaron for first twittering about the site and then having some fun with it (hurry and check it out before he changes the audio selections!).

3. Eastern bluebird

*click on the image to see it larger*

This weekend I finished a commission for an original watercolour painting of an eastern bluebird. I decided to try a square format for this one and I like how it turned out. As before, I use sepia pen & ink first before painting.

The original painting will be a gift for a 1-year old, which I think is a really lovely idea.
