This evening I was doing a little multi-tasking. On the computer, my FTP program was uploading new files to Aussiereviews. In the kitchen I had dinner underway, with rice boiling on the stove and chicken cooking in the oven. I had the television news on so I could catch the weather report (the Murphlets have a swimming carnival tomorrow). I was ducking in and out the back door to the washing line

Murphlet 5 received a craft kit from his grandmother for Christmas (thanks, Mum). He’s been waiting (im)patiently for me to help him figure it out and make it. The first time I looked at the instructions with him I put it in the too-hard basket and have been making excuses ever since. But today I finally sat down with him to tackle the project. The kit included a french knitting tool, and the

One of my New Year resolutions was to blog more often, yet here it is, the 23rd of January (exactly a month since I last posted), and I’m writing my first post for the year. Not that this is a sign of complete failure – because even when I wrote my list of resolutions, I knew that most of January would be a write-off writing-wise. First, there was the annual Murphy trip to the beach, staying in

This has nothing to do with writing and everything to do being a mother. My big sister sent me this You-tube clip which is just the funniest thing I've ever seen - because it's just so true. And it's so me - I think I could play the audio of this one around the house and the kids would just presume it was me (except perhaps for the American accent). Phew! It’s Sunday, the start of a new week and already I feel a bit overwhelmed by the week. It’s one of those weeks where I have got so much to get through and wonder how I can juggle it all. So, first off, I’ve made a list of what needs doing. 1. Finish edits on two non fiction reading book titles. 2. Mark two batches of assignments for my tutoring job. 3. Finish writing notes for performance

I've just finished updating Aussiereviews, and added ten new reviews. This time they're all fiction - two picture books, four children's books, one young adult and three adult fiction. This was a great batch of books, very diverse but all good. I loved A Little Election from the team responsible for the Little Lunch series. It's a playground look at the election process - cute, funny but also

Only three days till the final instalment of Harry Potter goes on sale. The older Murphlets are pretty excited and are trying to convince me that we need two copies so that we can all read it before the ending is revealed online or in the media. Yes, I’ll admit I’m a big fan of the series. I do think I’ll be able to survive post-Harry, but I have enjoyed the series. Back when the first title
