1. Monday Artday Award Poll

Thanks to everyone who voted in the poll. The question, "do you like the weekly winner feature?" was answered with 65 votes. 50% said it adds interest, 28% said they love it, 3% feel it's unnecessary and 3% doesn't care. So, the weekly winner is here to stay. I hope everyone is a winner eventually - if not, rest assured that you are still valued here and your art is wonderful and inspiring. Keep the art coming, artists!

2. And The Winner Is... Josh Pincus!

The winner for the "telephone" challenge is:

Josh Pincus!

Congrats, Josh. I chose Josh's "Alexander Graham Bell" this week as it perfectly illustrates the theme and is just plain funny and clever. Great work, Josh!

3. And The Winner Is... Maryam!

The winner for the "Disaster" challenge is:

Maryam!

Congrats, Maryam. Great entries, everyone, but I chose "Gaza children" as the best. Whatever your politics, children suffering is truly a disaster. Beautiful image, Maryam.

4. And the winner is... Amy Bleasby!

Winner! I am in love with a lot of the entries for "Zombies" and have several favorites. Choosing is always hard - I want new people to win, I want to balance styles, I want to be sure the theme is best represented. My pick has won before but she's met my requirements and I am struck by the gothic/noir feeling of the pieces.

Congrats, Amy Bleasby!

Amy Bleasby contributed two pieces (1, 2). Thank you to everyone else who really made some amazing artwork. The artists here are so wonderful! I get comments often about how you all inspire so many people on the Web. You all rock!

5. And the winner is... Diana Evans

Robots, robots... I loved Frankenbarry's illustration but he won 2 weeks ago (you can't win again for 3 weeks after a win). Josh Pincus' was fun as always, with an interesting tale. Diane Evans' was sweet (and a little creepy). Alexandre's was fun and will be a great story. Gerald's was a stroke of genius! Anish's was tragic. Josh's (musarter) wonderful robot conveyed a lot of tension - what happens next? Roberta's cute little robot has a lot of heart. And TP's minibot is adorable. So who should I choose? It's so tough... but I'm going with Diana Evans' fembot - it's odd, creative, and well executed.

Congrats, Diana Evans!

And the winner is...

Angelopudus!

I'm sorry... I just can't resist a mad scientist in a luchador mask. Sweet! Congrats to new-comer Angelopudus!

Fantastic work from everyone else, as always.

9. And the winner is... Tekentijger!

Great work on the Grimm challenge, everyone! As always, choosing a winner is a very stressful task - the styles are so different (as they should be) and the quality is so good. For this challenge, I'm picking the Rapunzel by:

Sandra Tuinder (tekentijger)! Congrats!

Tekentijger's fun and bright style and her clever take on the subject gives her the win.

10. And the winner is... Mamaliga!

The winner for the Monday Artday Paris challenge is:

Mamaliga!

Mamaliga worked hard to do something different and I think she captured Paris well. I look forward to the color version. As always, picking a winner was extremely difficult. I had to lay down and recover after deciding. You are all so good and the styles are all so different, it often doesn't feel fair that there should only be one winner. Great work everyone!

11. And the winner is... Amy Bleasby!

Well, as usual, so many great entries that it's painful to chose. In my book, everyone that participates in the Monday Artday themes are winners as we all benefit from each other. Fantastic work, everyone!

For this theme, the one that I feel best captured Beatrix Potter while keeping one's own unique style was Amy Bleasby's Tale of Two Bad Mice. The style is very un-Potter but still is fresh and illustrates the story beautifully. I think Beatrix would have loved it.

Congrats, Amy Bleasby!

12. And the winner is... Pascal!

The winner for the Summer Olympics challenge is:

Pascal Kirchmair

Pascal's passion and enthusiasm for illustration always comes through each and every week. His portrait of Rafael Nadal really captures the feel of victory. Congrats, Pascal!

My other favorites were Matucha's and Candace Trew Camling's. It seems most artists here are not so attached to sports illustration. I guess you never know. :)

13. And the winner is... Sarah Ackerley!

The winner for the 1 Character, 4 Panels challenge is:

Sarah Ackerley

Sarah's hand-drawn varied poses maintained consistency in the character. And that owl was pretty funny too.

Lots of excellent entries for the 1 character, 4 panels theme. Besides Sarah's, I loved Coralie's, Lisa Griffin's, Pascal's, and Reg's. Great work, everyone!

Sorry about this delayed announcement. Monday Artday is back on the ball. :)

14. And the winner is... Kate!

Who to choose for the Summer theme winner? I've said it before and I'll say it again, choosing a winner each week is the hardest part about moderating this blog. A person that wins can't win again for 3 weeks to give more people a chance, so that eliminates a few. The theme must be well represented so that highlights several. That usually brings the finalists down to three to about ten people. Now I have to be objective and not favor styles or friends. Still hard. This week I loved a lot of pieces. Pascal always shows joy and passion in his work. Josh Pincus always has wonderful stories with his fun illustrations. Emila always does beautiful work. Deborah Mori and Roberta always does fun and cute illustrations. Ces and Zari always have beautiful work. Richard Cardona always does the most amazing and professional graphics. Those I haven't mentioned, well, much of those just blew me away. I particularly liked Candace Trew Camling's and Martha's, and Amy's. But one illustration stood out most for this judge as representing Summer.

Congrats, Kate! You are the winner of the Summer theme!

Kathleen Rietz's little boy has great summer images - yellow dusk sky, buzzing bees, tree swing, bare feet and green grass - as well as lots of joy.

15. And the winner is... Josh Billings!

Congrats to Josh Billings (musarter)!

Josh Billings (musarter) is chosen as this week's winner for his clever steampunk interpretation of a wild west transformer. Josh has been delivering great pieces every week so I'm happy that he's got the win this week. There were many great entries (awesome story and illo, Josh Pincus - and fantastic imaginings, Emila, Bleasby and Martha!) Everyone did great. You guys are all awesome!

17. And the winner is... Pati!

Wow!!! Big time wow! So many entries for the Hair theme, all of them incredible, most of them just blew me away! I am so impressed with all of you. I want you to know that I occasionally get email from professional illustrators that love this blog and are always inspired by all of the entries here. Keep it up, everyone!

I'm befuddled as to who should win... I adore Zari's - this is a first for her I believe - well-balanced color, perspective, composition, and no outline. I love seeing artists push styles in new directions. I also love Linda Sarah's story-telling, Rowan Dodd's bold precise strokes, Josh Musarter's funny cousin, Kelly B.'s is darling, and Christy's is clever. I could go on... All of the entries rocked.

I'm going with Pati for this theme. I'd love to give 3 or 4 more awards for you all for this one but then I'd set a precedent that will just give me more work. :) Pati's spectacular drawing of a girl on the bus shows her raw talent with a pencil in a sketchbook. The highlights, shadows, line, the smooth hair pulled into a braid with bits of fly-away hair... magnificent.

Congrats to Pati!

18. And the Winner is... Rawtoastdesign

Man, I hate judging. Especially when there's so many talented people participating and doing such excellent work. Choices are never cut-and-dry and I know that not everyone will agree with me. But such is the nature of this site. A winner must be chosen. I do hope that everyone that participates does so for better reasons than the chance to win - to get your art seen, to learn, to be inspired...

The winner of the design a CD cover project is:

Rawtoastdesign

Congrats to rawtoastdesign for the cover design that I feel best represents what's looked for in today's CD covers - color, whimsey, an edge, and excellent composition.

19. And the Winner is... Emily!

There were a few excellent entries here for "Anarchy". I think the topic as a whole might have been too much for some. I loved Josh Pincus' story and illo. Josh Musarter's great illo of The Sex Pistols warmed my nostalgic heart. Krisztina's baby demonstrated some true anarchy. But for excellence in concept and design, I'm going with Emily's punk turtles!

Congrats, Emily!

20. And the Winner is... Richard!

The winner for the Supernatural theme is:

Richard Cardona!

Richard wins for his series of 5 supernatural images. It's always tough to decide. There were a lot of incredible entries this week. I went with Richard's illustrations because I felt they best represented the theme (as well as being so wonderfully cool!). Thanks to everyone for participating! Whether you "win" or not, we are all inspired by the varied work that appears here - which is always the real point of Monday Artday.

21. And the Winner is... Josh Pincus!

This week's winner is:

Josh Pincus!

I'm sure you'll agree that Josh's illustration tells a story that is well-suited to the topic and is well done and entertaining. Thanks, Josh!

22. And the Winner is... Cale!

Oh, MAN!!! The Giant Japanese Monster theme started out slow but you guys came on like gangbusters! Way to go!

Really tough deciding. So many styles and ideas on the theme. Josh Pincus' entry is as wonderful as always and I learned a lot about Haruo Nakajima. Lots of cute ones, clever ones, funny ones, beautiful ones and scary ones. Mary's was wonderful (loved the hidden damsel in distress). Candace never disappoints. Richard's are always cool. Genevieve and Raluca - incredible! But I'm going with Cale Atkinson this time.

Congrats, Cale Atkinson!

Cale Atkinson's sad and lonely monster was funny, beautifully executed, and amazing well thought out. Great concept! I loved the devastated city, the building windows spelling out "no monsters", and the blimp with the "go away." The helicopters, the smoky dusk, the moon, the 2-toned fire/blood color, the textures... the expression on the monster and the little guy saying "konnichiwa"! The picture is wonderful and tells a whole story. Well done!

23. And the Winner is... (for Pirates!)

Looks like I'll be choosing this week. As always, amazing entries, several deserving a win, but I gotta go with one. So I'm choosing new-comer, André Gribble's Pirate Juice!

Congrats, André Gribble!

24. And the Winner is... (for Wonder Woman)

Richard (last week's winner) hasn't contacted me this morning so I hope he doesn't mind if I go ahead and pick this week's winner. It was tough. There's lots of great entries. Both of Josh Pincus' entries were clever and funny. Samuli's was astounding, took my breath away and makes me wish I could choose 2 winners. However, in the spirit of the challenge, I'm going with Jessi Tsoi's cute little Wonder Woman.

Congrats, Jessi.Tsoi!!!

25. And the Winner is... (for Change)

There were a ton of great illustrations this week (perhaps a half ton from Richard - you go, man!). I'd be hard-pressed to pick a winner - I'm glad someone else did it! Sandra (Tekentijger) won last week and she obliged us with her choice for this week. Thanks, Tekentijger!

Sandra says: I guess I'm supposed to pick this weeks winner, right?

I chose the drawing of the yelling man by Kathleen Rietz. It is very emotion-provocative. Although I am usually a 'violence is not a solution' kind of person, I got the urge to plant my elbow in this man's face! On the other hand, I want to shake some sense into her: of course he is not going to change! So leave him! Now! With or without using your elbow =) I think Kathleen did a very good job capturing this situation!

Cheers, Sandra (aka Tekentijger)

Congrats to Kathleen Rietz!!!
