Last week will be forever in my heart. Starting with a trip to St. Thomas, Virgin Islands, where Math boy and I married in a private ceremony at Magens Bay Beach between two palm trees. It was peaceful and serene, with only the minister and a photographer present. It was unfussy, focusing on what really matters... everything I wanted it to be.
We stayed at the Bellavista Bed and Breakfast in St Thomas. (hello, Wendy!!!) I wanted give this place a mention since Wendy the owner is a wonderful lady who took incredible care of us the whole time we were there. Highly recommended!
We came back to NYC for a reception to celebrate with friends and family....and the theme for the party? Chickens, of course! And the star of the show:
My chicken wedding cake!!! Made by my incredibly talented mother-in-law!!! I couldn't have dreamed of a better cake!!! It was so personalized (she based the chickens off of my illustrations) and I had no idea what it looked like till the reception. I was completely floored.
I'm not the type of girl who thought about their wedding day since they were little. But this chicken cake is definitely a dream come true. Words can't really express how much I appreciate the time, energy and love that was spent making it. Thank you, my new MIL!!!

I know its been over two weeks since I've posted anything! Lots to post about, but I'm trying to stay off the computer and enjoy the summer while I can.
Well, I've got more goodies in the mail! These cute chicken card holders are from fellow illustrator Kristin Sorra. I first met Kristin at the Highlights illustrators' party last year. She is super talented and I'm so happy to have met her and her hushand, who is also an artist. They are so nice and super cool. Thank you for letting me adopt them. I'll take good care of them :-)
Math Boy thought they looked like chicken bumper cars?!? So funny!

A deliciously wrapped surprise package came to me last week from fellow illustrator and blog friend Andi Butler...its a chicken rubber stamp! You ROCK, Mrs. B!!! She also included a CD with some hilarious chicken songs and clucking sounds, it really made my day. Rooster Math Boy and I were dancing around the living room listening to it. Thank you for your thoughtfulness.
I can see how rubber stamps are quite popular these days, I see people at various blogs are making their own. So fun!

On January 3, 1992 J. R. R. Tolkien, author of some of the most beloved fantasy books in history, was born. To celebrate his birthday I decided to learn a bit more about him. Oxford Reference Online led me to The Oxford Encyclopedia of Children’s Literature which contained this great biography. Check it out below. And no, I am not yet counting the days until The Hobbit movie is released!
Tolkien, J. R. R. (1892–1973), British scholar of Anglo- Saxon and medieval literature and writer of fantasy fiction, most notably The Hobbit and The Lord of the Rings. The enormous success of the latter novel has been decisive in establishing fantasy fiction as a popular literary genre that straddles the boundary between children’s and adults’ literature. Although few of his works were written expressly for children, most are accessible to teenagers and young adults, undoubtedly the largest group among his readers. (more…)

Let the heavens rejoice, and let the earth be glad; let the sea roar, and the fulness thereof. --
Psalm 96:11
Entling no. 3 has just run three laps around the outside of the house exulting and shrieking with joy!
Entling no. 2 has grabbed her phone and speed dialed everyone in her phone book.
This just in from ABC News via the ever vigilant Treebeard:
Peter Jackson and New Line Cinema have reached agreement to make J.R.R. Tolkien's "The Hobbit," a planned prequel to the blockbuster trilogy "The Lord of the Rings."
Entling No. 2 works at her institution of higher learning in that building that employs librarians. She got a call this week from one of them and was invited over to look at new book that had just come in.
EN2 was very pleased to be the first person on campus to read the book and her mother was touched that these college librarians are reaching out to students withbooks that they know are of interest to them.
EN2 sent us this photo. She accompanied it with a gloating "nee-ner, nee-ner" or as they say in Elvish,"En! Sii'! Yallume! Auta miqula orqu!"
I have worked on it a bit to protect the innocent. As I have oft repeated, I try to spare the entlings the ongoing embarassment of hearing folks say, "I didn't know SHE was YOUR mother!"
