On New Year’s Eve, thanks to regular reader, Marrije, I was surrounded by palm trees. Okay, just the one palm tree. A palm tree that required a certain amount of assemblage:

before it was fully grown:

How can it be cold when there’s a palm tree in the house?
Thanks, Marrije!
thats awesome. marije, can i have a palm tree? pretty please?
Unfortunately, we don’t have any palm trees in the UK but some people plant them and slowly see them die in our winters!!
I want a palm tree!
Oh look!!! A lolscott.
‘I breathz life’
is that one that you can put ice in and it keeps drinks cold?
Patrick: What makes you think that’s Scott?
Kim: It is indeed one of those, but because we are young adult writers, who thus do not drink, we did not use it for that purpose.

no? I could be wrong. i’m not very good internet stalker.
His nose is not lumpy!
It could be used to keep *soft* drinks cold.
YA authors don’t drink those either. We strive to be a good influence in all things.
ah, okay. I shall strive to be positively influenced.
(I also found you via Elizabeth Bear, by the way.)
Bless the Bear!
I’m just going on what was previously reported. I think it is a fine nose. magnificent, even.
hehe, it’s even weirder & bigger than I thought! glad you enjoyed it.
ps: justine, your claim about ya authors not drinking would be more convincing if you edited out the champers from the picture…
Marrije: You assumed those glasses belong to YA authors, but there were many peoples at the party who are not YA authors.
ah, my mistake. the world does not solely consist of ya authors, alas.
oh, and i forgot the most important part earlier - thanking daphne unfeasible and the wonderful maureen johnson for their role in the surprise. i merely pushed some buttons, but maureen actually schlepped large cardboard boxes through busy holiday new york. she’s splendid! thank you, maureen!
