I'm in a bit of a melancholy mood today (not sure why) and this poem by Christina Rossetti seems to fit my mood.
Remember
Remember me when I am gone away,
Gone far away into the silent land;
When you can no more hold me by the hand,
Nor I half turn to go yet turning stay.
Remember me when no more day by day
You tell me of our future that you planned:
Only remember me; you understand
It will be late to counsel then or pray.
Yet if you should forget me for a while
And afterwards remember, do not grieve:
For if the darkness and corruption leave
A vestige of the thoughts that once I had,
Better by far you should forget and smile
Than that you should remember and be sad.
This week's Poetry Friday round up is over at Becky's Book Reviews.
“She’s like one of those little mechanical guys that walks out of a clock and announces stuff.”
“Well, the Chronicler’s Lantern does turn into a jeweled timepiece.”
“You guys got that Heavenly Sword game review published, huh?”
“Yeah! It’s got a girl with red hair and she’s got a super powerful sword and then you know what?”
“She can fly around when she’s fighting too! And her sister is named Kai and there’s this really fat guy that she beats up in the game and it’s soooo pretty all the places you get to go.”
“Well, that about covers the review. What do you think, Space girl?”
“Affirmative. Review transferred to core circuits for priority transmission to the Hana.”
“There you go, Cici. You’re an official Gamepowa.com reviewer.”
“Check out the Gamepowa review of Heavenly Sword for the Playstation 3 folks. And don’t forget to vote. Left side. Big red box. We be out.”
“There’s a new video on Acey’s site and it’s got a girl who fights!”
“Is it a Gamepowa video alert?”
“All I heard was ‘girl who fights.’ Don’t ask when. Don’t ask why. Don’t ask how. Let’s just get to the video update!”

Melancholy is pouring down out of the sky here yet again. Hopefully the sun will come out again soon for both of us -- literally and figuratively!
I hope so !!
Oh, Michele! This is a perfect poem to pass along to someone in my writing group who is struggling to reflect melancholy in a character whose cousin has died. It's so sad, yet so perfect. Thanks for sharing it - and I'd say hope you feel better, but sometimes, a little melancholia is good for the soul.
I'm very glad that my timing's proved so apt, TadMack...
I'm not really sure why I'm feeling melancholic - I'm fit & healthy at the moment, and my writing's going very well... Odd !
Love this.
It ought to be read at funerals.
I agree Sarah !
Great sonnet, Michele. I'm in with some depressing Wilfred Owen today, if you're still in the need of a wallow. But I rather hope things have taken a more cheerful turn!
I'm much cheerier now, thank you Kelly !
Melancholy, but beautiful and quite comforting, I find. Thanks, Michelle.
Thanks Becky...
And yes, I found it comforting too...
I'm coming in late here and I was going to say I'm sorry you're feeling melancholy, but I see you're feeling a little better now. I think we all have those down times now and then. The poem is beautiful and just right for a melancholy mood.
I'm feeling lots better now, thank you. But the poem was perfect for my mood on Friday morning...
