OK, this post might be cheating a little, but two things.
First, next week, I'll have a special guest blogger on in-depth research. Padma Venkatraman will talk about her research methods for finding all the facts to build an accurate, fascinating world for her new novel, Climbing the Stairs, which is set in British-occupied India during WWII.
Second, I have a question about dedications. I need to write one for my first trade poetry picture book, STAMPEDE! AND OTHER POEMS TO CELEBRATE THE WILD SIDE OF SCHOOL. I have a basic idea in mind, but I'm having trouble framing it briefly enough for a picture book dedication. So I have a favor to ask. Would you pull any three picture books off your shelves and put the dedications in a comment, along with the name of the book itself? Thanks! Since this is the only nonfiction part of the book :>) I'm hoping this tie-in makes it semi-appropriate for Nonfiction Monday!
Check out the Nonfiction Monday roundup at Anastasia Suen's Picture Book of the Day blog. Happy Monday!

In his forthcoming book, Petrostate: Putin, Power, and the New Russia , Goldman chronicles Russia’s dramatic reemergence on the world stage, illuminating the key reason for its rebirth: the use of its ever-expanding energy wealth to reassert its traditional great power ambitions. In the article below Goldman reflects on Medvedev’s recent victory in the Russian elections and on what it means for Russia.
Dmitri Medvedev’s election (or more accurately, selection) as president of Russia was not much of a cliffhanger. By eliminating any viable contender, his patron, Vladimir Putin did all he could to ensure his protégé’s election. For many Russians, there was little point in even bothering to show up at the polling station–everything had been decided in advance. Except for Medvedev, no other candidate (or even a potential candidate) was allowed meaningful access to TV, much less campaign funding. Large public rallies were restricted, if not banned outright.
