1. Sausage Fest 2013!

It has been a tradition at Knuffle Manor (and before that Brooklyn's Pigeon's Nest) to throw a big party once a year to celebrate the efforts of those "behind the scenes" who insure that my books, animated films, and other projects get out into the world looking a good as possible. Still before the storm I am the first to admit that when it comes to my work, I need a lot of help.

2. I'm back!

click to enlarge. I've just returned from a fun holiday.  While I was away, Universal Syndicate ran the comics I pinch hit for pal Richard Thompson's Cul De Sac.  It was great fun to play around with his characters.  You can see the work starting here (then click onto the arrow for the next day). Thanks again to Stacy Curtis for inking them. There's still as Sunday strip of mine coming

3. NYTimes Book Review Cover

It was a great thrill to be asked to draw this fall's Children's Book Section cover for the NYTimes. They really wanted something 'seasonal', so this is what I came up with: The final piece, as seen in your Sunday paper. The scene takes place before Knuffle Bunny Free. You'll note some of my characters sneaking into the scene and (if your Dutch) the carrot for Schimmel. The scene features

4. Elephants, Piggies, Triangles, Cartoonists, & Yay Richard!

It's been a crazy week of work, visiting with pals, fans, making new pals, & meeting heroes, perhaps the most fun week in my professional life to date. NYC's Book Expo was great fun, especially as the event heralded the debut appearances of ELEPHANT AND PIGGIE as gigantic costumes. My creations are bigger than I thought! Piggie trades up & makes pals with Spiderman! In addition to

5. I love foreign editions!

The old mailbag included a preview copy of ¡La Paloma encuentra un perro caliente!, the Spanish version of The Pigeon Finds a Hot Dog! It's fun to hold it in my hands and I have been assured by Spanish-speaking pals it's a great translation. The book is the 3rd Spanish Language book of mine available in the States will hit the shelves at the end of May. On a different, local note, I'm happy

7. How Cool is THIS!?!

Check out the early stages of a dream come true:   Too cool! Elephant and Piggie should be around in time for the conventions this spring and summer.  Mo' info as I get it. Man, I may have to steal these next year for MARDI GRAS, which reminds me Happy Carnival to 'Nawlins.  Sorry to miss this year, but we we'll see you in '12.

Next week's New York Times Bestseller list includes Knuffle Bunny Free (#6, week 9!) along with two former presidential candidates (and we thought pop culture celebrities were trying to take over). 9. Happy Thanksgiving!

Thanksgiving is my favorite holiday of the year, because it's inclusive, there's no wrong way to celebrate it, and no one complains that their Thanksgiving day gifts weren't what they wanted. We'll be eating and doodling with family & friends. Here at the Studio, we have an embarrassment of riches to be thankful for, including our family, health, & your support.  Have a great holiday.

10. New Career

As all of the magazines & newspapers are (ironically) writing pieces about the imminent demise of the book, this weekend I took it upon myself to train in an alternate career just in case.Man, I really hope books don't disappear, because I stink. Thanks to the Local 98 for stifling their laughter.
