Happy St. Patrick's Day! Have you sung St. Patrick's Breastplate yet?***Today's Scripture thought:But this is what I commanded them, saying, 'Obey My voice, and I will be your God, and you will be My people; and you will walk in all the way which I command you, that it may be well with you.'Yet they did not obey or incline their ear, but walked in their own counsels and in the stubbornness of

Tonight, the theater kids and I are all returning to DuPage County to see "Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat," performed by our former theater group. It's the last night of the run, so we'll attend the cast party afterward (and be the last ones to leave, if my kids have anything to say about it...!).There are a number of kids who are graduating out of the program now, so it will be

I only have a few minutes, since today is filled with appointments.... But what a wonderful day we had yesterday at Church of the Resurrection! It was a delight for Father Rooster to lead the liturgy at both services, and by all reports, many were glad to hear his familiar priestly voice. We were able to greet so many old friends, adults and children alike, at both services. Then several of

Our bishop is amazing. Here he is, praying for Bantam17... ...and for Bantam13. For each one of our 23 confirmands, he prayed an individual, Spirit-led prayer that made you wonder how he could possibly know them so well, never having met them. Only by the power of the Spirit, of course! We meet in this beautiful old chapel only for feast days or special occasions like today. Even though

It's back to school (and work) we go! It sure was a busy weekend though. It began at noon on Friday with a McDonald's Playland birthday for Chicklet6. Lame, I know. But that was what she told me she wanted long before "birthday coming up" had begun to seep into my brain, and with all my preoccupation with new schools and schooling, the Playland sounded like an easy party to me! We were joined
I figured it was time to update the prayer requests in my sidebar. I know that some of my readers pray so faithfully for us, and we can't tell you what a support and a blessing that is! I didn't change the requests for the church, because we've been in a bit of a holding pattern for awhile now. There have been so many distractions in recent months for us personally, with the move and all, and

It's been a quiet evening. Blondechick15, our most verbal and somewhat high-maintenance child, is at a Christian drama camp until Friday. The public areas of the main level of our house are finally in an unpacked state for the first time in weeks, so tonight I actually felt like I had a few moments to sit down at the table with Chicklet5 and play a phonics game with her. We had a lovely time,

After a full weekend, we are all back in Wisconsin. It struck me as I was driving home that I don't know the next time I will be out of state! After a year of leaving the state every Sunday, and after the last two+ weeks of crossing the Illinois-Wisconsin border more times than I can quickly add up, it seems strange to not know the next time we'll make that familiar drive. I know we have to go

Thanks, everyone, for all the praises and good wishes on the last post! As for the house itself... It's one of the few five-bedroom houses we saw. Since so few are available (or else very expensive), we were mostly looking at four-bedroom houses, with the intention of adding another bedroom in the basement, if there was a den/office on the main level, or adding two rooms in the basement. Plus,

WE GOT THE HOUSE!!!!! We didn't have to wait till midnight after all, because their realtor told our realtor tonight that their final decision was not to drop their contingency. So the house is ours--pending the paperwork, of course. We're closing in under 4 weeks. Yikes! We won't have to move right away, though, since our current home isn't sold yet. The first thing we want to do is have
So today's the day we find out about the house! Actually, we found out on Tuesday that our offer was accepted. But--there is another offer in there ahead of us. Ours was accepted over theirs because theirs has a contingency (ours does not). They get 72 hours to think about whether they want to drop their contingency, and if they do--then theirs is the primary offer and they get the house.

Someone is coming this morning to look at our finally somewhat finished, clean-as-we-can-get-it, beautifully manicured and polished home. And let me tell you, there's nothing like that first phone call to make you realize how many areas of your home still need attention! Between 10 p.m. and 1 a.m. last night, I: --Magic-Erasered Chicklet's name (written in ink) off her closet door --cleaned
"Dad?" Blondechick15 called from the back row of our 15-passenger van. "Yes?" he called back, as we paused in the conversation we were having. "Bantam12 and I were just talking about how excited we are to be going to church in Kenosha this morning. It seems like it's been a long time!" And it has. We missed the last two Sundays because of visitors and Godspell--and I missed the two Sundays

I'm trying to take it easy today, while regrouping with homeschooling and catching up on laundry.... Another Godspell mom told me that her little daughter said with surprise, during the second weekend of performances, "Man, nobody does laundry around here anymore!" Yeah, it's one of those tradeoffs we theater moms have to make. (But in ten or twenty years, I doubt I'll wish I'd stayed home
Today at church, we had the great pleasure of being joined by the members of the All Saints Anglican Church, a Nigerian congregation from Milwaukee. They are a young church, too; they started meeting just a few months after we did. We were all inspired by Rev. William Beasley's powerful message on being churches led by God to do the work of God, in the name of Jesus and in the power of the

At church yesterday, it was a special encouragement yesterday to meet Amy--the first Amy who commented on the last post. She had introduced herself via email earlier last week. She's a Kenosha resident who found our church by googling--yay for the internet! It sounds like we'll get to meet her family next time; her husband stayed home with sick children. Both Amys requested that I post the

With the end of Advent looming, I thought I might post some of my learnings while on my blogging break--while the season is still right! --One big thing I learned is that I love blogging. I missed it. What a pleasant diversion it is to put my thoughts down on paper (virtually), on a regular basis. --Without the outlet and the distraction of writing, I found I was “worried and anxious about

Thanks to my friend Jen in Seattle for pointing out this article! If you've been a reader here for awhile, you know I've been doing an on-again, off-again series on why we are planting an Anglican church: what drew us, from evangelical backgrounds, to this form of worship, and why we think it will grow. Well, this article helps document some of the claims I've been making! It's rather long,

With permission, I am delighted to share this poem with you, written by the father of a homeschooling family that has recently joined the core team of our church plant. It describes his experience in joining us on one of his first Sundays. It is beautiful and humbling to be a part of what God is doing there! I remember entering a room With a carpet of red; Before me, a fireplace, A table, a

Praise God from whom all blessings flow! My friend (mentioned here) is going to be released from the hospital tonight. After the testing was completed, she got the great news that the blockage from the blood clot in her brain was not as severe as they thought--something like 50% vs. 70-80%--and the veins in that area were compensating well. The blood clot was responding to blood thinning

Weeks ago, I began a little series explaining more about the church we're planting, and why we believe people will come and are coming to it. In Part One, I described it as a "three streams, one river" church, made up of the three streams of liturgical/sacramental tradition, evangelical, Bible-based teaching and discipleship, and freedom of the Spirit in worship. I've been exploring the

We're meeting in the pretty chapel today, since it's All Saints' Sunday and we're doing two baptisms! It'll be our first baptismal service--so appropriate on All Saints'. Rejoice with us! Almighty and merciful God, it is only by your gift that your faithful people offer you true and laudable service: Grant that we may run without stumbling to obtain your heavenly promises; through Jesus Christ

We are so grateful for all of you who are praying for us and for the church plant! I'm excited to share how God has been answering the last two prayer requests there in my sidebar--that God would send others to enlarge and strengthen the core team with needed gifts and abilities, and that Father Rooster would hear the Lord clearly as he leads the core team and sets direction for the church.
So I was saying... That we are taking our house off the market. Today, actually. And guess what? Our realtor called yesterday and said, "I know we're taking it off the market in another day, but someone wants to see it this afternoon!" My heart dropped. The house was a mess, and my two best helpers had just left for the day. (To go be extras in an Awana video, in fact. The show-biz
