Do you worry that the characters in your book
might not be realistic enough, or that your first
page won't HOOK an editor?
Do you suspect that your writing is not
as tight as it could be?It takes years of experience to KNOW these things for
yourself. You've spent so much time writing, rewriting,
and listening to the advice of your critique group, that
you've probably lost all focus. You are sure the whole
thing stinks - right?
Let me read your picture book, or those first three chapters
of your mid grade or YA. I will read through them like a
hungry editor. Then, before you send it out to earn its keep,
I will help you rework areas that need better focus, or a light
pruning. If your paragraphs are not as tight as Granny's new
girdle, we will snip to make them tight and terrific. Wimpy
verbs will get the boot. Active scenes will replace the big
yawn of all that telling.
"Nice" (or some other tired old word)
will not appear six times on every page. Cliches` will be
clipped, and prepositions banned from the ends of your
sentences.Get the idea?

Perfect expression! HEY- I can't play the trumpet while looking at this (well I can't play it anyway)
awesome colors!
What make this really work for me is the right hand. I see it as gripping the table just shy of diggin the nails in. It really brings the sour expression into the entire body. I wish I could get that much subtlety with so few lines.
Grapefruit has that same effect on me. Beauty.
It must be reaaaally sour! You illustrated his expression very well!
