3. SFG: sketch

I recently started a new sketchbook as part of my daily sketch exercise. I am devoting this one exclusively to maps. Some of the maps will be of real places and some will be entirely fictional. Most will not really resemble the places that they represent, but will be extremely accurate.

Above is a map of the flight of a huge beetle that came into my studio the other day. You can see more of my maps and read about this adventure on my blog.

ps. if you are into looking at sketchbooks (and really, who isn't?) check out this wonderful resource... http://www.frenchdrawings.org/sketchbooks.php

5. Tiny

I love making line drawings. I was recently contacted to do an especially fun one. My assignment was to turn a ferocious university mascot, the panther, into an elegant, friendly and playful fellow for the university’s pediatric research program. I hope this guy makes the tiny visitors feel welcome!

7. the Countess Flageolet

Lately I have been crazy for French enameled miniatures from the 1600s. I've been somehow working them into everything I do.

8. SFG: Dragon

Hand guard (Tsuba) depicting a dragon clutching a sacred pearl from a Japanese sword. The original 18th century sword hand guard that I used for reference is in the collection of The Walters Art Museum. I started this earlier in the week, then things heated up and got busy. This evening, even though it's a bit late, I just couldn't resist finishing it up and posting it.

10. above these things

Another doodle with this guy. It's not terribly dynamic but I like the contemplative nature of it. Giant Robots have feelings too. I think he needs some friends.

11. SFG: Advertising character Update

This was a re-design I did in preparation for an interview with a company that counted General Mills among their clients. I didn't get the job and was snubbed when I re-applied for another position.
