Lionsgate has unleashed the official trailer for Insurgent. The video embedded above features glimpses of Shailene Woodley, Theo James, Ansel Elgort, and Kate Winslet reprising their roles as Tris, Four, Caleb Prior, and Jeanine Matthews. 4. Lions Gate Invites Female Filmmakers to Make ‘Twilight’ Short Films

twilightcoverLions Gate will host a contest for aspiring female directors to create short films based on characters from Stephenie Meyers’ Twilight saga. The participants will consult Meyers’ 2011 encyclopedic tome, The Twilight Saga: Official Illustrated Guide.

Deadline reports that five winners will be selected to receive production advances to finance their short films. The five installments of “The Storytellers — New Creative Voices of ‘The Twilight Saga’” series will be released exclusively on Facebook in 2015. From there, fans will vote on which filmmaker deserves a grand prize which includes cash and career opportunities.

Here’s more from The New York Times: ”A group of female panelists, including the Twilight actress Kristen Stewart and Ms. Meyer, will select the winning shorts and mentor participants, Lions Gate said. Other panelists include the actresses Kate Winslet, Octavia Spencer and Julie Bowen; Catherine Hardwicke, who directed the first Twilight movie; the film producer Cathy Schulman; and Jennifer Lee, who co-directed Frozen. Certain contest details, including the length of the shorts, are still being worked out and will be made available on Tongal.com, a crowdsourcing platform.”

5. Naomi Watts Joins the ‘Divergent’ Cast

Academy Award-nominated actress Naomi Watts has joined the Divergent movie cast. In the remaining three installments of this film franchise, Watts will play the Factionless group leader Evelyn. According to The Hollywood Reporter, shooting for the Insurgent adaptation has already commenced in Atlanta, GA. Actors Shailene Woodley, Theo James, Ansel Elgort, Kate Winslet and Miles Teller have returned to reprise their roles from Divergent. Earlier this year, Lionsgate announced that Oscar winner Octavia Spencer signed on to play Amity faction leader Johanna. Recently, author Veronica Roth sat with Vulture and confirmed that the filmmakers intend to cast an actor to play the character Uriah for Insurgent.

6. Octavia Spencer Cast in ‘Insurgent’ Adaptation

Oscar winner Octavia Spencer has joined the cast of the Divergent film franchise. In the Insurgent film adaptation, Spencer will play Amity faction leader Johanna. According to The Los Angeles Times, The Time Traveler's Wife director Robert Schwentke will helm this project. Screenwriters Akiva Goldsman and Brian Duffield will collaborate on the script. This sequel film will showcase "Tris’ journey as war between the factions looms, and she and compatriot Four (Theo James) are fugitives fleeing from the ruthless Erudite leader Jeanine (Kate Winslet)." 7. Summit Entertainment Unveils ‘Divergent’ Clip

Summit Entertainment has released a new clip from the Divergent movie adaptation.

The video clip (embedded above) features an intense conversation between Shailene Woodley as hero Beatrice ‘Tris’ Prior and Kate Winslet as villain Jeanine Matthews.

8. Kerri Kolen Heads to G.P. Putnam’s Sons

Kerri Kolen will be moving to G.P. Putnam’s Sons at Penguin Group (USA).

Kolen will serve as executive editor and specialize in popular nonfiction. She will start her new position on February 25th.

Throughout Kolen’s career, she has worked at Simon & Schuster and Hyperion. Some of the titles on her list include A Stolen Life by Jaycee DugardWishful Drinking by Carrie Fisher and HODA: How I Survived War Zones, Bad Hair, Cancer, and Kathie Lee by Hoda Kotb.

9. Audible Hires Major Actors to Make Audiobooks

Audible.com has hired major actors to produce “tour de force performances” of new audiobooks. The stars helped choose the books, and the lineup includes Samuel L. Jackson reading A Rage in Harlem by Chester Himes and Kim Basinger reading The Awakening by Kate Chopin.

10. Kate Winslet Lands Book Deal for Photo Book about Golden Hat

Actress Kate Winslet has inked a book deal with Simon & Schuster to publish The Golden Hat, a collection of photos of celebrities wearing a special hat to promote autism awareness.

Winslet (featured in The Reader trailer embedded above) has arranged many celebrity appearances, including: Anna Wintour, Kevin Bacon, Meryl Streep, and Jude Law. Creative Artists Agency negotiated the deal with publisher Jonathan Karp, and senior editor Kerri Kolen. The book will come out in November 2011.

Here’s more about the book: “Winslet has amassed a collection of photos from an amazing array of her friends and renowned personalities who have donned this special hat, taken a self portrait, and passed the hat along from one person to another … Winslet found inspiration for this project in her friends Margret Dagmar Ericsdottir and Ericsdottir’s son Keli, who lives with a severe form of non-verbal autism … Despite hardship, Keli now composes beautiful and deeply moving poetry. One of the poems, among the many included in the book, is called ‘The Golden Hat,’ which describes a magical hat that enables an autistic boy to communicate.”
