Even though origami is the flavor of the moment—even McDonald’s is doing it—the sheer amount of labor involved in producing this Special K stop motion spot makes it rather impressive. It was directed by Peter Sluszka at New York-based Hornet Inc.
There’s a making of video in which you can listen to ad agency and marketing peope waxing eloquent about work that they didn’t do. The director Sluszka offers the best comment in the video: “What it really requires is hours of people folding paper.”

The commercial directing team of Dan & Jason has been developing Office Buddies over the past few years at the New York commercial house Hornet. The earlier episodes, including the funny “Stapler Face Off”, have screened at festivals like SXSW and Platform.
Three new 3-minute shorts were produced recently as part of Fox’s Inkubation, a development program to find new ideas for Fox’s primetime animation block. Hornet’s website currently features two of the shorts—“Happy Hour” is the latest—and the third will be posted soon.
The animation team on these new shorts was comprised of Lizzi Akana, Jake Armstrong, Efrain Cintron, Alan Foreman, and Connie Li Chan.
