Tim Beckhardt studied animation and printmaking at the Rhode Island School of Design. After graduating in 2009, Tim went to work as an artist at Augenblick Studios in Brooklyn.
Pellet Gunn, a short that Tim made at RISD is described as “a dog, a cyclops, and others kill some time with the help of wormholes and hobbyist self-modification.” The piece plays out unexpectedly, remaining fresh until the satisfying end:
A follow up student film from 2009, Inner Tubes, is described as “a frank look at tube-hole relationships.” This meditative piece may leave you thinking about your own tubes and holes:
Take a look at Tim’s portfolio website and Tumblr for more animated loops, drawings, comics and prints.

(This episode contains strong language.)
Over the last fourteen years, Aaron Augenblick has built up Augenblick Studios into one of New York City’s most respected production studios. The studio has produced animation—in Brooklyn!—for series such as Wonder Showzen (MTV2), Ugly Americans (Comedy Central), Superjail! (first season, Adult Swim), as well as the festival circuit hit Golden Age. The studio’s current major project is an animated feature based on the Ben Stiller live-action pic Zoolander.
In the latest episode of Frenzer Foreman Animation Forum, Augenblick talks about creating a studio from the ashes of bad advice, how a young studio finds work, the challenges of being a studio owner and artist at the same time, tips for building an artistic community and fostering studio pride, why he refuses to expand his studio beyond a set number of employees, and the importance of submitting animated shorts to festivals even if you’re producing commercial work.

Here’s a great way to begin the holiday weekend (in the States): a pair of newly released animated videos from Weird Al Yankovic. For his new album, Alpocalypse, much like how he did last time on Straight Outta Lynwood, Yankovic has employed several notable animators to create videos.
Here’s the music video for Another Tattoo (Parody of Nothin’ On You by B.o.B. featuring Bruno Mars). Animation produced at Augenblick Studios, directed by Chris Burns.
Party In The CIA (Parody of the song Party In The U.S.A. by Miley Cyrus) was animated by Roque Ballesteros and his team at Ghostbot.
The rest of Weird Al’s new videos can be seen on Yankovic’s YouTube page.
(Thanks, Annie-Mae)
