For the second year in a row, I'm taking part in a fantastic "haul-iday" giveaway from Chronicle Books. This eclectic independent publisher is giving away up to $500 worth of books to one lucky blogger, one reader of that blog, and the winning blogger's favorite charity. The winning reader will get the same haul of books as the winning blogger, and the winning charity will get to pick its own books. What a generous giveaway!
My charity of choice is the American Friends of the Kigali Public Library (AFKPL). The AFKPL is a nonprofit organization based in Washington, DC, that has been working with local and international partners to raise money, collect books, and offer additional support for the construction and long-term sustainability of the first public library in Rwanda.
Located in the capital of Rwanda, the Kigali Public Library will help introduce a culture of reading into this small African country, which has a complex history of violence and isolation that it is working hard to overcome. The library will also have a special focus on children's literacy, including many books in English, which is now the official language of Rwanda.

What could be better than helping a library such as Kigali, and reading an incredible list of books such as you've chosen? I hope, hope, hope you win!
I'm a friend and colleague of Maria Hanley (Maria's Movers) and have been meaning to reach out, because I think your website is a great resource. I use books (as well as stories I invent) all the time in my dance and yoga classes and am constantly referencing what you and Maria are up to for ideas. I'd love to help support the AFKPL - and I wouldn't mind a few more books for my classes as well:)

What a wonderful organization. I hope you win, and should I win the books I will donate them to my own local library, once I've enjoyed reading them myself, of course.
I support The Salvation Army, who also has a base in Kigali and many other regions throughout the world. I love that you have chosen an excellent org, Rotary, to also support in Kigali because I know that they'll achieve the goals they've set there and make a huge impact, just as SA does.
The reason that I'm commenting is because I want to win the books and give them to Salvation Army's Kroc Corps Community Center in Atlanta.
They have an awesome Family Literacy Program, and this would be a huge blessing for them to have some new books for the families in their program to use. The program coordinator there is Gayle P. King.
Please pick us so that we can duplicate your Kigali support efforts in one of the poorest neighborhoods in Atlanta and in the US. Unfortunately, the southern portion of Atlanta has the highest number of kids under 9 years old in poverty in the whole nation.
By supporting the Kroc Center, my hope is to see the poverty statistics in South Atlanta reverse over the next 10 years and beyond. Helping to educate the parents and the children here is the only way that a permanent change can come in this area.
