52. Cambodian Children's Painting Project on Facebook

Cambodian Children's Painting Project (CCPP) is dedicated to creating a brighter future for underprivileged children working and living on the beaches of Sihanoukville, Cambodia. CCPP provides opportunities for artistic expression, formal and non-formal education, psychosocial development, and skills training.

Cambodian Children's Painting Project
CCPP works with children who are orphaned or without family support; live in impoverished households, often with uncaring or abusive parents; and lack access to food, clean water, regular education and medical care. CCPP’s objective is to provide these children with the opportunity to develop their imagination and skills through artistic painting as the core activity, and through the sale of their paintings to generate some basic income for themselves and for their family needs.

The project also aims to provide them with a safe, stable and emotionally supportive social environment, which is critical for their development and growth and which they do not enjoy in their everyday lives. Further, CCPP connects artistic expression to general education, and helps the children pursue formal schooling. At the heart of CCPP’s work is the belief that education and knowledge are the antidotes to poverty and exploitation.

Mia Tavonatti, the creator of the Svelata Foundation for the Arts, enjoys the adventure of creating life and searching for truth through beauty in art.

Svelata is a foundation dedicated to the creative expansion of humanity through exhibitions, documentaries and educational programs designed to reveal the true nature of creativity and the transformative power of beauty.

By revealing the creative processes of artists to the mass public, starting with her own, Mia intends to break down the barriers between artist and non-artist and eliminate the blocks that discredit and disintegrate the dreams and aspirations of so many potential creators.

Mia earned her BFA and MFA from California State University Long Beach, where she majored in Illustration. She has studied in Paris at the Sorbonne, Parsons School of Design, and in the studio of renowned French impressionist Monsieur Relange.

54. Artist Camilla d'Errico on Facebook - Determination and Destiny

Camilla knew she was meant to be an artist when she arrived at Comic Con International in 1998 and saw the clouds part and heard the angels sing. How’s that for realizing your destiny?

Artist Camilla d'Errico is a product of her split heritage, Italian and Canadian rolled into one: Italian feistiness, Canadian politeness, and an early addiction to Saturday morning cartoons, comics and manga. Growing up she was more often doodling sexy damsels and dragons on her textbooks rather than reading them. Today she is following her dream of working creatively for a living thanks to her relentless energy, dedication, and just enough sleep deprivation.

What drives Camilla d'Errico to create? It’s a love for what she does – an unremitting devotion and a strong resolve to succeed.

Never regret what you do but regret what you don't. If you’re passionate about it – don’t hold back and go for it. - Camilla d'Errico

Art is most often a labor of love as many artists know. There’s an unexplainable, driving force deep within every artist that compels us to create. If we’re ever stripped of the opportunity to explore our imaginations or deprived of the time we need to record our dreams and bring them to life, we become empty and fragile, frustrated and angry. All creative souls understand.

Many of us have an understanding of what it takes

55. The Magical World of Alessandra Fusi on Facebook

Have you ever had trouble recognizing a Tim Burton illustration? Have you ever looked at an illustration and wondered whether or not it was created by Maurice Sendak? Some illustrators have such a distinctive style that their work is immediately recognizable. What is style though? Is it simply how an artist draws or paints something? Is it how artists connect with their audience? Is the emotion that artists convey through their work part of their style? Surely there must be some point of connection in order for a style to be successful.

Illustrator Alessandra Fusi has a wonderfully distinctive style. Her illustrations are soft and delicate, full of wonder and delight. They evoke such feelings of warmth and comfort that they take hold of their viewer like a familiar, loving embrace.

This exceptionally talented illustrator has the ability through her gifted hand to take characters as familiar as Willie Wonka and Peter Pan and truly make them her own. Wouldn’t it be great to see how she would illustrate a character like The Cat in the Hat?

The work of artist Charles Kaufman isn’t restricted by common, everyday thinking. Charles paints any subject he wishes on any surface he desires. Unconventional and bursting with imagination the subject matter of his paintings range from woman and wine bottles to surrealistic toasters in the wild to wacky characters at organ factories.

Charles is fearless in his approach to art. He’ll create his art on discarded soda cans and carved wood as well as the traditional canvas. It’s as if he as so many ideas of things to paint; they explode on to any surface available.

However don’t be fooled by the playfulness of his subject matter or his choice of rustic materials on to which his art is applied. Charles Kaufman is very serious about his work. He has two published books about his art with a third one soon to be released. On his website he offers an insightful view on how he layers paint on canvas. 57. Typographer and Illustrator Sarah Coleman's Factoryroad Shop

Inkymole, aka Sarah J Coleman, arrived at a full-time career in illustration and typography via the traditional method of a degree, and the bizarre worlds of pirate radio, lecturing, youth work, theatre, prop making for The Royal Shakespeare Co., and typesetting obituaries.

Now into her second decade of creating magic for a broad client base, she has held solo exhibitions all over the world.

Inspired by the penmanship of a more elegant era and with a muscular, if pedantic, grasp of the English language, she has wrapped her perma-stained fingers around words and pictures for advertising, identities, packaging, record sleeves and has just completed her 115th book cover.

As an artist do you find yourself asking questions such as, what’s the best way to approach art galleries? Should I start my own blog? What is artistic style? How can I integrate social media into my marketing plan? ArtBizBlog has insight and advice on these questions and numerous others.

When she left museums, her old artist-friends continued going to her for help and advice. A little research into that field led her to conclude that she wouldn’t be doing artists any favors by doing all of the work for them. Instead, she decided to teach them how - ArtBizBlog.

60. “Spicer-Up” Your Facebook Page with Mike Spicer’s Cartoon Portraits

Freelance cartoonist and illustrator Mike Spicer would like to “Spicer-Up” your Facebook profile picture with a custom made, Mike Spicer-original, cartoon portrait. Is this a fun idea or what?

The original photos are shown here for comparison and do not appear on the final artwork

It all started when Mike received complimentary reactions from his circle of friends about the cartoon style self portrait he created and was using for his own Facebook page. Positive comments poured in from both artists and non-artists alike.

He sat with the idea for a while to let it percolate in his noggin until it finally bubbled over and couldn’t be contained anymore. Fueled by his excitement and the prompting of his friends and online acquaintances he decided to pursue the idea. Mike floated the project out about a week ago and everything synched-up to make it "feel right".

Encouraged by the support he’s had so far Mike intends on building the project beyond his own online community in the hopes that others will also want these fun and unique likenesses as their social network visual identities.

Working out of Bracebridge, Ontario, Canada, Mike Spicer publishes newspaper editorial cartoons, book illustrations and creates humorous custom cartoons and caricatures for commercial clients as well as individuals.

62. The Abnormal Brain of Illustrator Derek Ring on Facebook

It has been established that persons who have recently died have been returning to life and committing acts of murder. A widespread investigation of funeral homes, morgues, and hospitals has concluded that the unburied dead have been returning to life and seeking human victims. It's hard for us here to be reporting this to you, but it does seem to be a fact.[1]

Derek Ring is an illustrator with a passion for the undead, ghouls, zombies, mermaids, devils, frankensteins, draculas, robots, and sea monsters, girls in bikinis fighting sea monsters, comic books, ghost stories…you probably get the picture.

Whenever an artist has a passion for a specific type of subject matter it really shows. Derek’s passion is clearly displayed in his creepy but very cool illustrations of ghosts, mutants, miscreants and other creatures of the night.

It has been rumored that Derek Ring creates his illustrations using a mixture of embalming fluid, human bone marrow and goat’s blood in the dungeon of a dark castle high atop a hill somewhere in the New England region of the northeastern United States – exact location unknown.

64. Crime Fighting Stuntman Marcus Cutler on Facebook – And some illustration too…

How would you like to have so much work that you’re begging for a break? Marcus Cutler seems to have this unusual “problem”. He jokingly wrote on his Facebook page, “Please lord... nobody send me any more work... just for a couple weeks.” The poor guy – it’s easy to see why his work is so popular.

The illustrations of Marcus Cutler are full of bounce and delight. His work is jam-packed with fun characters, unique concepts and a great sense of humor. His style is so inviting. 73. Enter The Land of Erinaceous Illustration on Facebook

If you threw Heinz Edelmann's kaleidoscopic characters into the cosmic, psychedelia of Alton Kelley's world, and crashed it into the world of artist Klaus Voorman, the result would probably be the whimsical, morphing, twisting, textured land of illustrator Erin Klauk - phenomenal.

Erin Klauk is a freelance illustrator living and working in Brooklyn, New York. Each of Erin's posters take us on a journey through spinning, hand drawn type, curving lines and intense colors that move with the same rhythm as the music they promote.

What a pleasure it is to see such a talented illustrator working today creating original, stylized, hand drawn artwork that in all likelihood has been influenced by many of the great artists of the past.
