Children's Book Review by Susan Stephenson, www.thebookchook.com
From the publisher:
A hilarious and action-packed follow-up to Shannon and Dean Hale's critically acclaimed The Princess in Black! Featuring new characters, like the sparkly array of princess guests, which are incredibly appealing and adorable! For fans of princesses AND superheroes!
When last we met Princess Magnolia, we discovered that her alter-ego, the Princess in Black, was kept busy vanquishing goat-eating monsters. Now it’s Magnolia’s birthday and 12 sparkly Princess guests have been invited. Unfortunately, that doesn’t stop the monster alarm from ringing, and Magnolia’s excuses get wilder and wilder as she tries to dash out and defeat monsters while keeping her friends happy with party games.
There's lots of tension as we wonder whether Magnolia's secret will be discovered, and gorgeous cartoony illustrations highlight the colourful (mostly pink!) action. Kids who love feisty girl heroines, monsters and lashings of humour will love this book.
Newly independent readers are well supported throughout The Princess in Black and the Perfect Princess Party, as with the first in the series. Do seek it out if you have children who like to read more of a beloved character’s adventures, and who want lots of action and fun. There's also a very cool activity kit via The Princess in Black website - princess party, anyone?
