65. The God Slot

The Gentleman's Sketching Klub Internationale de Londres met today on the steps of St.Paul's cathedral. Our esteemed leader chose the North Bank of the river to draw, but I preferred to do some people watching in and around the church. My first victim was a garrulous lady who was too busy chatting on the phone to notice me drawing her. I didn't intend to make her look 20 years older and it's probably just as well she didn't see it.

Nowadays you have to pay a large entry fee to look around the cathedral. Sod that. However there is a small chapel for quiet prayer and contemplation at no charge, so I took a pew and drew these guys praying. The chap near the pillar was the spitting image of Ricky Gervais. The insert is a blurred photo taken with my phone.

We met up in Paternoster Square for a sandwich and discussed the skills required to draw chickens.

67. The Black Hat

The Frog likes to sport a large Borsalino, which lends a bit of swagger to any situation. Unfortunately it looks ludicrous on me.

68. The Drawing Club of London

I went on my first outing with the London Drawing Group yesterday. The location was a rather soggy Trafalgar Square and I worked from the shelter of the National Gallery portico. Our intrepid leader (shown above) actually managed to fit Nelson's Column onto the page, which is no mean feat. I'm afraid my scrappy little sketch was quite awful, but to be fair it's actually very difficult to draw perched on one leg whilst balancing a paintbox, sketchbook and water bottle in one hand, all the while trying to ignore the tourists peeking over my shoulder. I preferred drawing the people rushing about in the square and their reflections on the wet pavement.
Over lunch we discussed the merits of vodka as a painting medium, the shape of future teabags, and whether scepticism about cycle helmets is justified.

72. Kid At Swimming Pool

Well, I was supposed to wait to post this on Friday for my Friday sketch thing I previously mentioned, but I can be somewhat impatient. Also, it doesn't make sense to wait till Friday to post a sketch when daily warm-up sketches are a part of my work routine. So, I'm going to dump the whole Friday sketch thing and just post like I normally do. Beats waiting around for Friday to post anything.
This was another idea suggested on Twitter for the Friday sketch. Kids at Swimming pool. I could have drawn lots of Kids at a swimming pool, but this is the image that popped in my head when I read the sketch suggestion. And I was going to add a caption, but I thought in the end it did not need one.
Sketched and inked in my sketchbook. Inked with my Pentel Pocket Brush Pen.
