26. Cover Art Revealed: Spell Bound (Hex Hall #3) by Rachel Hawkins

On Wednesday, Rachel Hawkins revealed the cover art for the third and final book in the Hex Hall trilogy, Spell Bound. Check it out:

Coming March 13, 2012!

I love how this cover combines elements from the first two, and how consistent they are throughout the series (even down to the random cat...). Also, fierce sword there, Soph! o_O As Rachel Hawkins pointed out in her reveal post, Sophie's also wearing a Hecate Hell uniform in the reflected image...does that mean she returns to the school that started it all before the series ends? I hope so! We've come full circle =)

The books in this trilogy just keep getting better, so the conclusion is sure to be killer! I am DYING to get my hands on it after the cliffhangery torture of Demonglass.

Here are the other two covers for comparison:

What do you think? Which Hex Hall cover is your favorite? I think mine is still Demonglass.

27. Cover Art Revealed: Truth (XVI #2) by Julia Karr

Julia Karr recently revealed the cover art for Truth, the sequel to her 2011 YA dystopian debut XVI. Check it out:

Coming January 19, 2012!

***Contails Spoilers for XVI***

Nina Oberon’s life has changed enormously in the last few months. When her mother was killed, Nina discovered the truth about her father, the leader of the Resistance. And now she sports the same Governing Council–ordered tattoo of XVI on her wrist that all sixteen-year-old girls have. The one that announces to the world that she is easy prey to predators. But Nina won’t be anyone’s stereotype. And when she joins an organization of girls working within the Resistance, she knows that they can put an end to one of the most terrifying secret programs the GC has ever conceived. Because the truth always comes out . . . and the consequences can be deadly.

I loved XVI, so I'm really excited for Truth! The word cut-out covers for the series really work, I think. I especially loved the first one, because the sharp angles of "XVI" looked like they were cutting into Nina -- which is a great metaphor for the book. The only thing I'm not sure about with this cover is her expression -- is she smug? Wary? It just doesn't seem quite right, considering how dark the series is. All the white kind of reminds me of the new Uglies series covers too.

Here's the XVI cover for comparison:

What do you think? Have you read XVI?

28. Waiting on Wednesday: As I Wake by Elizabeth Scott

Waiting on Wednesday is a meme hosted by Breaking the Spine to highlight upcoming releases we're anxiously awaiting!

Coming September 15, 2011!

As I Wake by Elizabeth Scott

Ava is welcomed home from the hospital by a doting mother, lively friends, and a crush finally beginning to show interest. There's only one problem: Ava can't remember any of them - and can't shake the eerie feeling that she's not who they say she is.

Ava struggles to break through her amnesiac haze as she goes through the motions of high-school life, but the memories that surface take place in a very different world, where Ava and familiar-faced friends are under constant scrutiny and no one can be trusted. Ava doesn't know what to make of these visions, or of the boy who is at the center of them all, until he reappears in her life and offers answers . . . but only in exchange for her trust.

First of all, how amazing is that cover? I happened across this as I was shopping for Elizabeth Scott books last week and was completely devastated that it doesn't come out till September! I don't know what to make of this synopsis. At first it sounds like a really interesting look at a girl's struggle with amnesia, but then it gets much darker -- she's not who they say she is? Was she kidnapped? What caused her amnesia? PTSD (a la Mara Dyer)? And THEN it gets kind of dystopian or maybe mental ward-ish? They were under constant scrutiny? And to top it all off, there's a mysterious boy. I'm really getting into this kind of mystery thriller thing, and it seems like something totally different from Elizabeth Scott. I can't wait to find out the answers to my many, many questions!

What's your favorite Elizabeth Scott book? What are you waiting on this week?
29. Waiting on Wednesday: A Beautiful Evil (Gods & Monsters #2) by Kelly Keaton

Waiting on Wednesday is a meme hosted by Breaking the Spine to highlight upcoming releases we're anxiously awaiting!

Coming February 21, 2012!

A Beautiful Evil (Gods & Monsters #2) by Kelly Keaton

A power she can’t deny. A destiny she’s determined to fight.

When Ari first arrived in the dilapidated city of New 2, all she wanted was to figure out who she was. But what she discovered was beyond her worst nightmare. Ari can already sense the evil growing inside her—a power the goddess Athena will stop at nothing to possess.

Desperate to hold on to her humanity and protect her loved ones, Ari must fight back. But Athena’s playing mind games, not just with Ari but with those she cares about most. And Athena has a very special plan for the brooding and sexy Sebastian.

Ari is determined to defeat Athena, but time is running out. With no other options, Ari must unleash the very thing she’s afraid of: herself.

I LOVED Darkness Becomes Her, so I cannot WAIT for the sequel! The New Orleans atmosphere, mythology, magic, mystery and even a little dystopian for good measure -- what's not to love? Athena was a killer character in the first book, and I can't wait to see what chaos she has up her sleeve in this one -- especially where "brooding and sexy Sebastian" is concerned. I also hadn't seen this cover until recently, but I think it works PERFECTLY with the books. There's nothing quiet as haunting and creepy as a weeping angel, don't you think?

Have you read Darkness Becomes Her? Wasn't it a-MAZ-ing?
30. Waiting on Wednesday: Lola and the Boy Next Door by Stephanie Perkins

Waiting on Wednesday is a meme hosted by Breaking the Spine to highlight upcoming releases we're anxiously awaiting!

Coming September 29, 2011!

Lola and the Boy Next Door by Stephanie Perkins

Budding designer Lola Nolan doesn’t believe in fashion . . . she believes in costume. The more expressive the outfit -- more sparkly, more fun, more wild -- the better. But even though Lola’s style is outrageous, she’s a devoted daughter and friend with some big plans for the future. And everything is pretty perfect (right down to her hot rocker boyfriend) until the dreaded Bell twins, Calliope and Cricket, return to the neighborhood.

When Cricket -- a gifted inventor -- steps out from his twin sister’s shadow and back into Lola’s life, she must finally reconcile a lifetime of feelings for the boy next door.

“You’re going to fall in love with Lola and the Boy Next Door. Madly in love! Every page sparkles.”
— Sarah Mlynowski, author of Bras & Brookmsticks and Ten Things We Did (And Probably Shouldn’t Have)

Let's face it -- we're all waiting on this one, aren't we? I'm scrambling to get caught up on my review-writing -- one of which will be for Anna and the French Kiss, which was fun and flirty and full of swoon. It sounds like Stephanie Perkins' sophomore novel will be no less fabulous. Lola seems positively quirky, and what do we love more than a quirky heroine? Nothing! Well, except for hot rocker boyfriends ;) And this Cricket is BETTER than Hot Rocker? AND an inventor? AND named Cricket? I have seriously got to meet him! What is so dreaded about these twins? Is the sister a Mean Girl? I can't wait to find out -- you know we've all

Miss Peregrine's Home for Peculiar Children by Ransom Riggs

Thanks to Eric at Quirk Books!

A mysterious island.

An abandoned orphanage.

A strange collection of very curious photographs.

It all waits to be discovered in Miss Peregrine’s Home for Peculiar Children, an unforgettable novel that mixes fiction and photography in a thrilling reading experience. As our story opens, a horrific family tragedy sets sixteen-year-old Jacob journeying to a remote island off the coast of Wales, where he discovers the crumbling ruins of Miss Peregrine’s Home for Peculiar Children. As Jacob explores its abandoned bedrooms and hallways, it becomes clear that the children were more than just peculiar. They may have been dangerous. They may have been quarantined on a deserted island for good reason. And somehow—impossible though it seems—they may still be alive.

A spine-tingling fantasy illustrated with haunting vintage photography, Miss Peregrine’s Home for Peculiar Children will delight adults, teens, and anyone who relishes an adventure in the shadows.

32. Waiting on Wednesday: Incarnate by Jodi Meadows

Waiting on Wednesday is a meme hosted by Breaking the Spine to highlight upcoming releases we're anxiously awaiting!

Coming January 31, 2012!

Incarnate (Newsoul #1) by Jodi Meadows

NEWSOUL
Ana is new. For thousands of years in Range, a million souls have been reincarnated over and over, keeping their memories and experiences from previous lifetimes. When Ana was born, another soul vanished, and no one knows why.

NOSOUL
Even Ana’s own mother thinks she’s a nosoul, an omen of worse things to come, and has kept her away from society. To escape her seclusion and learn whether she’ll be reincarnated, Ana travels to the city of Heart, but its citizens are suspicious and afraid of what her presence means. When dragons and sylph attack the city, is Ana to blame?

HEART
Sam believes Ana’s new soul is good and worthwhile. When he stands up for her, their relationship blooms. But can he love someone who may live only once, and will Ana’s enemies—human and creature alike—let them be together? Ana needs to uncover the mistake that gave her someone else’s life, but will her quest threaten the peace of Heart and destroy the promise of reincarnation for all?

Jodi Meadows expertly weaves soul-deep romance, fantasy, and danger into an extraordinary tale of new life.

I've always been fascinated by reincarnation, and it sounds like Incarnate approaches the idea in a wholly new way. I can't think of any other YA novels that are premised on souls and a string of new lives. It's so fascinating! I'm not completely clear on what the synopsis means when it says "when Ana was born, another soul vanished" -- do they have some sort of filing system so that they can tell when a soul goes missing? I don't know, but it sounds like an intricate world -- and there are dragons! There's

33. Waiting on Wednesday: Darker Still by Leanna Renee Hieber

Waiting on Wednesday is a meme hosted by Breaking the Spine to highlight upcoming releases we're anxiously awaiting!

Coming November 1, 2011!

Darker Still (Magic Most Foul #1) by Leanna Renee Hieber

The Picture of Dorian Gray meets Pride and Prejudice, with a dash of Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde.

New York City, 1882. Seventeen-year-old Natalie Stewart's latest obsession is a painting of the handsome British Lord Denbury. Something in his striking blue eyes calls to her. As his incredibly life-like gaze seems to follow her, Natalie gets the uneasy feeling that details of the painting keep changing...

Jonathan Denbury's soul is trapped in the gilded painting by dark magic while his possessed body commits unspeakable crimes in the city slums. He must lure Natalie into the painting, for only together can they reverse the curse and free his damaged soul.

"The Picture of Dorian Gray meets Pride and Prejudice, with a dash of Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde." What?! Yes, please! Seriously, could you ask for a better comparison? Lords and Golden Age New York, dark magic and possessed bodies? This book sounds so atmospheric! Why is Natalie the only one who can help him? Who is possessing his body and why was he trapped in the painting? How long has he been there? So many questions!

What future release are you waiting on this Wednesday?

34. Waiting on Wednesday: The Night Circus by Erin Morgenstern

Waiting on Wednesday is a meme hosted by Breaking the Spine to highlight upcoming releases we're anxiously awaiting!

Coming September 13, 2011!

The Night Circus by Erin Morgenstern

The circus arrives without warning. No announcements precede it. It is simply there, when yesterday it was not. Within the black-and-white striped canvas tents is an utterly unique experience full of breathtaking amazements. It is called Le Cirque des Rêves, and it is only open at night.

But behind the scenes, a fierce competition is underway—a duel between two young magicians, Celia and Marco, who have been trained since childhood expressly for this purpose by their mercurial instructors. Unbeknownst to them, this is a game in which only one can be left standing, and the circus is but the stage for a remarkable battle of imagination and will. Despite themselves, however, Celia and Marco tumble headfirst into love—a deep, magical love that makes the lights flicker and the room grow warm whenever they so much as brush hands.

True love or not, the game must play out, and the fates of everyone involved, from the cast of extraordinary circus performers to the patrons, hang in the balance, suspended as precariously as the daring acrobats overhead.

This book just sounds so fun and different, don't you think? What future release are you most excited for this week?

35. Waiting on Wednesday: Bloodspell by Amalie Howard

Waiting on Wednesday is a meme hosted by Breaking the Spine to highlight upcoming releases we're anxiously awaiting!

Coming June 1, 2011!

Bloodspell by Amalie Howard

The spell was simple …

CRUENTUS PROTECTUM. Defend the Blood.

But what do you do if your blood is your enemy?

Victoria Warrick has always known she was different. An outcast at school, she is no stranger to adversity. But when she receives an old journal for her seventeenth birthday, nothing prepares her for the dark secrets it holds—much less one that reveals she’s a witch with unimaginable power.

What’s more, when she meets the dazzling but enigmatic Christian Devereux, she has no idea how much her life is about to change. Enemies will hunt her. Friends will turn on her. The terrible curse that makes her blood run black will stop at nothing to control her. And Christian has a sinister secret of his own …

Without knowing whom to trust, can Victoria survive her blood’s deadly desires? Or will she lose everything, including herself?

This sounds like a darkly fascinating read. I've been looking for more witch stories lately, so this is an answer to my bookish prayers! I can't wait to see why (and how) Victoria's blood is rebelling against her and running black -- blood magic is always a bad sign. Mysterious diaries, enigmatic heroes with French last names, and obviously dark magic? I'm definitely intrigued!

What upcoming release are you most excited for this week?

The Twisted Tale of Stormy Gale by Christine Bell

I'm a time pirate—born in 1810, now a 21st-century woman. I travel through time trying to right wrongs without disrupting the fragile balance between what is and what can never be.

That's why it's vital that I go to 1836 and find the man who conned my brother out of his Time Travel Mechanism as quickly as possible. If the technology falls into the wrong hands, it could change the world as we know it. The notorious Duke of Leister definitely qualifies as the wrong hands. An amateur scientist of the slightly mad variety, he's bound to figure out how to use the TTM sooner rather than later.

I knew this wouldn't be easy. But I wasn't counting on him being as sexy as hell. Or winding up chained to his bed…

39. Waiting on Wednesday: The Faerie Ring by Kiki Hamilton

Waiting on Wednesday is a meme hosted by Breaking the Spine to highlight upcoming releases we're anxiously awaiting!

Coming September 27, 2011!

The Faerie Ring by Kiki Hamilton

London, December 1871

Orphaned and picking pockets in London’s Charing Cross station to support not only herself, but her ‘family’ of orphans, sixteen year-old Tiki steals the Queen’s ring and thinks she’s solved their problems. That is, until Rieker, a pickpocket from the North End, suspects her in the theft and tells her that the ring is really a reservoir that holds a truce between the British and Faerie courts.

When he warns her that the fey will do anything, including murder, to recover the ring, Tiki is unsure whether to believe him or not. To complicate matters, Rieker seems to know something about the unusual birthmark on Tiki’s wrist. But when Tiki and her family are threatened the game changes.

In a dazzling debut that takes you from the gritty slums of Victorian London to the glittering ballrooms of the Royal Palace to the menacing Otherworld, you won’t want to miss this thrilling tale of mystery, adventure and romance.

Victorian London and faeries? Count me in, please! I'm intrigued by this truce between the British and the fey -- I wonder if the novel weaves the fantastical into the real history? Maybe blames the English Civil War on the faeries? That would be awesome. Cromwell, a faerie -- could you imagine? Ha! I also love the Dickensian vibe of the pickpocketing orphans, and their family bond could be a great emotional center for the novel. This book sounds like it was made for me =)

Doesn't this book sound fabulous? September is too far away! What future release are you anticipating this week?

41. Trailer Thursday: Where She Went (If I Stay #2) by Gayle Forman

Coming April 5, 2011!

HERE THERE BE SPOILERS if you haven't read If I Stay!!!

I just read If I Stay for the first time a few days ago (review coming soon), so now I'm pining for Where She Went just like the rest of the bookish world! This trailer is stunning. I LOVE that it includes those lines from the end of If I Stay. They were powerful on the page, but it gave me chills to hear them spoken. I'm kind of depressed that Mia left....but according to Lori at Pure Imagination, that doesn't stop the novel from being as incredible as the first. I can't wait to see what the magnificently talented Gayle Forman has left up her sleeve!

What do you think of this trailer? Are you excited for Where She Went? Are you in love with Adam like I am? ;)
