A quick update for April - not because nothing happened during April, but because I've been so busy palling May that I'm hoping you'll come back here tomorrow and read lots of what I have to say.So quickly, here's my April news. The month started strongly, with author Katie Hines interviewing me on her blog on April 1. You can read the interview by clicking on the link.Soon afterwards, I had an

In spite of my still being largely on holidays, January has been a busy month for me. Just the way I like it, really. There's been lots happening with my forthcoming titles. Earlier in the month, Virginia, my editor at Walker Books sent me through a new, slightly revised cover for my verse novel, Pearl Verses the World. I loved the old cover but adore the new one, tweaked slightly to really

I was finally able to finish this one up last week. Overall, I don't hate it. Is it the best in the series? Naw. Is it the worst, Naw. It's decent, and decent is good enough for me at the moment.
It was sort of an uneventful weekend for me. The wife and I didn't really do much. I've had to take a bit of a break from writing the book in order to get some other stuff done, but hopefully I'll be able to get back to it sometime this week. I'm at a point (somewhere in the middle of the story) that has me a bit stumped. I know how the story is going to end, but I've written myself into a bit of a corner and I'm having trouble getting over a hump. I had hoped that taking some time away from it would help me sort things out in my head, but it really hasn't worked.
Not exactly the most well thought out plan, I know.
I saw a really good movie called "Son of Rambow" over the weekend. A really sweet little story, well directed, funny, had everything really. It didn't change my life or anything, but without a doubt it was a good flick.

Just got this in my inbox this morning and figured I’d share. I edited a little bit and added some hyperlinks, also suggested that BPL needs an announcement blog along the lines of the nifty one at NYPL Labs.
Hi Jessamyn and Alison,
Thanks for blogging about our Flickr presence last week… your influence was greatly felt (to the tune of 2,500 hits on the day of your post, with virtually no other publicity at all).
I wanted to let you know about a couple of this week’s developments:
- In response to comments on Jessamyn’s blog, we’ve gone ahead and opened up all of our items to tags and comments from any Flickr user; we welcome/encourage/request any and all submissions. We’ve made the photo titles more meaningful as well, instead of simply using our digital accession numbers.
- In addition to the 1,227 items posted last week, we’ve added 4,523 really cool vintage postcards of New England, geotagged by the location pictured (and therefore viewable on our map). It’s so cool that I’d probably lose a lot of productive time playing with this stuff if it weren’t my actual job to play with this stuff.
- We’ve got two or three more collections identified for uploading in the very near future, with plenty more to come after that.
- We’re still waiting to see if Flickr will let us use the “No known copyright restrictions” license that they created for the Flickr Commons pilot project.
If you feel like any of this is newsworthy enough to treat your readers to a followup, we can always use a little pre-launch publicity. :-) Either way, I’ll be sure to keep you both posted as the project continues to grow.
Thanks!
Michael

I was able to get a little work done on the above monster piece over the last couple days, though it required me to get little to no sleep in order to do it.
Sleep is a luxury anyway, right?
Right?
Or, wait, no...I'm thinking of an expensive car.
Silly me.

Hi, All. It's a busy Monday here in Smalltown. Here's what's going on:
- Anne and I are ramping up the Cybils for 2007. I'm working on a site and a forum, while Anne's getting announcements and press releases ready. We'll start seeking panelists this Friday. Woohoo!
- The Poetry Friday schedule is complete and will be posted in the right-hand sidebar as usual.
- September The Edge of the Forest. Should be up today, but most likely it will go up on Wednesday. How many reviews did I receive this month? Many, many, many. While that's great, there are many more pages to edit and format. I'll post when it's up.
- Speaking of reviews, if you are a reviewer for the Forest and out of books, send me an e-mail.
I'll be back tomorrow with something more substantive.

You know, I never would have made it in the 19th century. It's hard work to keep a family warm when it's below freezing outdoors. We used containers filled with hot water, stove burners, and sleeping bags all to keep the house at 52 degrees. Things get so dirty, too, when you can't see what's happening.
In any case, at least for the moment, we have power. And, I'm so grateful, if exhausted. My sites are back up as well:
- Help write the first children's wiki novel here at Witches and Wiki. We've got a great first chapter. What will happen next? You decide!
- The Edge of the Forest is back online as well.
Tricia at The Miss Rumphius Effect has a fabulous book meme going and I've been tagged. At the moment, though, I have fewer than 2 brain cells to rub together, so I think I'll respond tomorrow. Night, all!
I am impressed! Pearl truly does look wonderful. I'm not game to out my real pic on the blog or site in case it causes small children to run away screaming, or indigestion in parrots.
Thanks Bookchook. I'm really excietd about Pearl. And yes, it is scary having your photo online. I figured if I posted ne of Elle and pretended it was me, it might cause problems down the track when people met me :)
