http://www.insecurewriterssupportgroup.com/p/iwsg-sign-up.html This month (or should I say every month) I'm dealing with my insecurity of holding a book launch signing event. I'm taking baby steps in overcoming my fear of envisioning an empty room with crickets chirping with little old me standing in the front of the room. I feel like a shrinking violet with my heart practically pounding out of my chest and sweat pouring down my back. I'm mentally begging for someone to show up besides my husband and daughters. Please Lord don't let me wither away!
Now it's time to strap on my big girl boots and get over myself. I've placed my initial outreach to four different locales for a book launch signing event to occur. I'm patiently or should I say impatiently waiting to hear back. Even though my latest children's picture book,
Dee and Deb Off They Go Kindergarten First Day Jitters is due for release this month, I'm forecasting an event for January 2016 after the hubbub of the Christmas season. I'll keep you posted!
A bit about #IWSG...

“What a delightful book! The first sentence, Dee and Deb, twin sisters, were always together – Crib mates to playmates is great! The exploration of the awful "I'm alone in Kindergarten" feeling makes this a great book for pre-schoolers and about-to-be kindergarten kids.

Veteran’s Day Prayer
Dear Lord,
Today we honor our veterans,
worthy men and women
who gave their best
when they were called upon
to serve and protect their country.
We pray that you will bless them, Lord,
for their unselfish service
in the continual struggle
to preserve our freedoms, our safety,
and our country’s heritage, for all of us.
Bless them abundantly
for the hardships they faced,
for the sacrifices they made
for their many different contributions
to America’s victories
over tyranny and oppression.
We respect them, we thank them,
we honor them, we are proud of them,
and we pray that you will watch over
these special people
and bless them with peace and happiness.
In Jesus’ name we pray; Amen.

Another month has flown by and it's time for the writer's in the Insecure Writer's Support Group to post about our insecurities.
In the words of our fearless leader, Alex Cavanaugh...
When posting for IWSG day, remember to stay on topic – either post about your insecurities, struggles, or challenges or post something of encouragement for other writers. Most important – be sure to visit other IWSG members! This day is about coming together for support and encouragement.
The co-hosts for November are:
We need co-hosts for December 2 and January 6! If you can co-host, please let me know.
Please visit fellow #IWSG members today!
Thanks and let’s rock it on November 4!

Today, I'd like to chat offering words of encouragement. I know I have allowed myself one too many times to second guess my path of writing when I don't get a good old, "way to go!" from someone that is riding the roller coaster ride of writing and publishing.
A simple act of giving a few words of encouragement go a long way. When you share your positive words of someone's accomplishments or struggles, watch them stand a wee bit taller when you offer your encouragement.
Something as simple as saying...
"good job"
"I'm here for you"
"I like how you are developing this scene, may I offer a suggestion"
will often change a person's self-doubt to a positive. Try it, today and everyday and brighten someone's day!
Thanks for visiting and commenting. You have certainly brightened my day!

Advanced Reader Copy (ARC) review of my latest children's book!
Scheduled for release: December 2015
Dee and Deb Off They Go Kindergarten First Day Jitters is an endearing story to which all children can relate, whether or not they are a twin, as they take the big step to full time student. Twin sisters, Dee and Deb, are about to be separated for the first time ever on their first day of Kindergarten.
Ms. McDine’s voice paints a realistic picture of first day jitters and creates characters and a school experience which is easily relatable for kids. She does an excellent job of hitting the high points of what matters most to children this age—a friend to play and interact with in school and what happens entering a classroom not knowing anyone, and in this case without your best twin sister-friend, and having to choose a buddy from a sea of unfamiliar faces.
Ms. McDine’s story reassures and helps kids be less concerned about what they will face as they begin their school journey. Dee and Deb is a delightful read that will leave children more excited than nervous for their first big day of Kindergarten.
Mr. Foster’s colorful and detailed illustrations almost leap off the page and really bring the story to life, drawing the reader fully into Dee and Deb’s adventure. The reader feels Dee and Deb’s anxiety and excitement with each flip of the page.

1.the quality of mind or spirit that enables a person to face
difficulty, danger, pain, etc., without fear;bravery.
Becoming an author takes an immense amount of courage. It's one thing to write our stories, it's a whole other thing to share our writing with our critique groups and eventually to an editor, agent or publisher.
To me it's like releasing my children to school for the first time. It's heart wrenching watching our children go off on their own for the first time. Our writing is much like our "babies" being released into the world. Self doubt often creeps in, but don't let it wash away your courage.
For without courage, your words will never be published.
Wishing you much courage and success on the roller coaster ride of publishing!

I am going off topic from the children's book world to assist in giving a voice to the voiceless through the Annual Day of Prayer for Victims of Human-Trafficking.
THE last Sunday in September is set aside every year as The Salvation Army's Annual Day of Prayer for Victims of Human Trafficking, providing an important focal point for prayer to support people caught up in trafficking and those working among the victims. Every Salvation Army corps (church) and centre around the world is asked to make time on Sunday 27 September 2015 to offer focused prayer for The Salvation Army's ministry to trafficked people and to call on God to uplift the victims and change the hearts of those who gain financially from this modern-day slavery.
Even if you are not involved in The Salvation Army and believe in the power of prayer, please take the time to do so wherever you may be for prayers are uplifting and can invoke change.

This particular story is near and dear to my heart as it's based on my childhood experience of being separated from my fraternal twin sister, Debbie when we ventured to kindergarten for the first day!
I'm working behind the scenes to set-up a pre-order page for those interested in purchasing a copy before the official release date in December 2015!
As soon as I receive my copies and it's available through Guardian Angel Publishing and Amazon I will make the additional announcements.

Lord on this Labor Day,
we celebrate the work we do,
and we thank You for the blessing of our jobs.
We ask for those seeking employment that
You guide them in their search for work.
We ask for guidance when we are confused.
We ask for patience when working through conflicts.
We ask for strength to complete each day.
We ask for rest when we are weary.
We ask that You be with those whose faces
we might never see but who work tirelessly
each day for the good of us all.
'Lord, support us all day long until shadows lengthen,
evening comes, the busy world hushed, the fever of life
is over and our life's work is done.
Then, in Thy tender mercy, give us safe lodging, holy
rest and everlasting peace at your side for eternity.'
Amen

Wow! It's September 2nd! Where the heck did the summer go? Welcome to another installment of the Insecure Writer's Support Group...
The awesome co-hosts for the the September 2 posting of the IWSG will be Julie Flanders, Murees Dupé, Dolorah at Book Lover, Christine Rains, and Heather Gardner! Please take a gander at each of their wonderful blogs and show your support by leaving comments and of course the other participants links can be viewed at www.insecurewriterssupportgroup.com/p/iwsg-sign-up.html.
This month I'd like to chat about nurturing yourself. With all the pressures of work, home, family, friends, etc., do you take the time out to nurture your body and soul?
For the longest time I would put my needs last (like so many) and would take care of everyone else. And where did that get me! Absolutely nowhere, except absolutely exhausted, both mentally and physically. And when this happens I feel like a frazzled Bugs Bunny!Over the course of the last several years, I'm proud to say I don't say "yes" to every request or need so fast. I typically count to ten silently and ponder quickly if saying "yes" would be in my best interest. I've become more of a 50/50 to others needs. Not that I don't love my "circle" ~ I feel it's important to see them fly on their own.
Make sure your priority is healthy eating, exercise and plenty of sleep. This way you nurture what inspires you... the choices are endless... writing, art, knitting, photography, etc. You name it the sky is the limit.
Like my Nana would always say, "happy mama and daddy, happy family!"

As we all know, the Internet connects us with people that we most likely would have never met. Recently I was contacted via email (through a Google search) by Madeline Ochi, project management officer at the non-profit
Libraries Without Borders. Needless to say, I was intrigued the moment I started reading Ms. Ochi's email! I then did my beloved Snoopy dance when she invited me to come tour their program "The Ideas Book."
About Libraries Without Borders:
Our mission is to expand access to information and education. We create and support libraries, and most recently began to work in partnership with the UNHCR to provide refugees with books and community spaces.
It is through the support of author ambassadors that we have been able to engage a wider audience with our mission, and we would be honored to have you join us in our efforts.
This summer, Libraries Without Borders will be launching our first domestic project in the United States, partnering with the local arts –education non-profit, Dream-Yard to create a library and media center spaces in low-income housing communities for middle-school youth during summer vacation in the South Bronx, NY.
Looking forward to meeting Ms. Ochi in person on July 25th at Hayden Lord Park in the South Bronx, NY. It's sure to be an engaging and fulfilling day!
Thank you Ms. Ochi for this lovely and unexpected invitation!

I'm delighted to back with celebrating the Insecure Writer's Support Group the first of the month after several months of hiatus.
Applause all around for the awesome co-hosts for the the July 1 posting of the IWSG will be Charity Bradford, S.A. Larsen, AJ, Tamara Narayan, Allison Gammons, and Tanya Miranda!
I wish I could say my hiatus was for something fun like traveling the world and hitting lottery.... alas it was not to be.
Much to our shock the doctor's discovered that my husband developed squamous cell skin carcinoma on his eyeball, inside his lower eyelid and eye socket. After three surgeries and plenty of down time, my husband is now back to work after a little more than two months of recovery time. Thankfully the brilliant surgeons were able to save his eyeball and with extensive reconstructive surgery he is just dealing with a lazy eyelid and a bit of blurry vision this time. I urge you all the protect yourself and your loved one's from the harmful sun. I'm not saying not to enjoy the great outdoors, but be sure to wear sunscreen, sunglasses and hats!
Now, how do I get back into the groove of my writing and book promotion? I feel like I've lost a tremendous amount of progress in both categories. I've been taking the time over the last few days to get myself reorganized and plan on getting my July newsletter out before the July 4th holiday.
Does anyone have any suggestions in not loosing one's mojo when dealing with a family crisis without exhausting one's self? I blogged a couple of times and actually released my June newsletter, but otherwise I took the easy way out and put my writing and book promotion on the back burner. My day job was and still is a fantastic support during my husband's health crisis and I'm eternally grateful for The Salvation Army, where I began work in January of this year.
Your thoughts and suggestions are appreciated!
Thank you!

Book Festivals: A Must Have for Your Book Marketing Toolbox
By Donna McDine
With all the wonder of technology at our fingertips we are able to accomplish an abundance of work without even meeting people face-to-face. Don’t let the cyberspace vortex suck you in 24/7. Before you know it, it’s been days since you’ve had personal contact with others. It’s important not to get caught up into the loophole of isolation by keyboard. One of the best ways to put one’s self out there amongst is by participating in book festivals.
I implore you to stop screaming and wipe that worried look off your face. You can do this! Believe me, if I can do it you can do it. I’m not a sales person whatsoever and find it much easier to promote fellow authors than I do my own books. You give me a synopsis and bio of an author and I can talk about them endlessly. Me, my books…not so much. Until the day I pulled up my big girl pants and took the plunge into researching book festivals. Like anything in this world, some events are successful in sales, others not so much. It’s important to know either way the day is a networking opportunity to connect with fellow authors and yes the READERS we are dying to reach. Connections are essential regardless of the monetary, especially with the event organizers.
Hmmm, I hear you grumbling…
“How do I find out about book festivals?”
“It’s too costly!”
Slay your naysayer and get down to research. Yep, even though I’ve told you to get out from behind technology, this is one of those times where it’s imperative to hunker down at your keyboard. For here we go on the roller coaster ride through your region of events via the magic of cyberspace. One of the VERY BEST websites out there for book festival listings is…
It’s incredible the wealth of information provided!
Not to brag, but I want to share with you two of my success stories to hopefully get you out of your comfort zone…
In the fall of 2014 I participated in the Collingswood Book Festival and the 19th Annual Rockland Literacy Extravaganza. Both events targeted a different audience, the Collingswood Book Festival focused on readers and the 19th Annual Rockland Literacy Extravaganza focused on teachers. Connections were made at both… At the Collingswood Book Festival I had the opportunity to meet readers and the 19th Annual Literacy Extravaganza I met over 60 teachers.
I dare you, put yourself out there….you never know what new friends and connections you may make!

Welcome to guest author, Sally Yolanda as she takes over Write What Inspires You and chats about writers' block
How to Overcome Your Writer's Block with this New Perspective
by Sally Yolanda
What is the biggest fear among writers? It is not the fear of losing their job or the fear of losing money? It is the fear that they will run short of creative ideas and thus, experience a block. The dreaded writers’ block. The name of this terror can bring jitters to even the most experienced writer out there.
Reasons behind writers’ block
It can really sap the motivation of even the best writers out there. Why does it happen? There are a couple of views on this. It can happen owing to exhaustion; can happen because you are trying to force yourself to come up with neat ideas and that process is creating resistance to you, within you; it may happen owing to an intense, internal fear that the work you produce may never be good enough for people, that it may invite mockery and laughter and as a self defence, you subconsciously throttle your thinking process.
And within the factors, which give rise to this “block”, lie the answers to the question of how to solve the problem of writer’s block. The most important thing in this would be to change our perspective towards this issue as well as to methods we use to solve it.
Change our perspective, unblock the block!
One of the most important things we should realise is that we should stop fearing failure. Fear of failure is what makes a person even hesitate from starting on something new. So one great way of approaching writing challenges is to take them as stimuli to create something new. If something does not work out, use it as a starting point to explore other ideas, to stretch across different fields to find something that help the endeavour to go forward. Success need not come in one shot. Sometimes you have to try many different approaches that may take variable time to show their results. When a writer stops fearing failure, he may tend to develop patience. The ability to wait. For that creative spark, that idea. This would also help him or her to be open and receptive to all ideas that float across.
Stop taking things personally. Let Go.
Another way is to stop taking it as a personal threat to your ability to write. Maybe it is the way of telling the body to take it lightly or the mind to recharge itself. Use the opportunity to do other things, which had got pushed back to the back of your mind; go for outings, vacations. Take your problem off your mind. You can also engage in discussions with yourself or with a silent listener such as your pillow. Such kind of “pillow talk” may help you to reach within yourself to find out things or thoughts or attitudes that may be actually being a hindrance to your creative process.
Do creative relaxation.
Instead of forcing your creative mind to work under circumstances that it may deem unpleasant or unsatisfying, let it relax. Let ideas float in. Try out even the weirdest sounding ones. Sometimes, all it takes is a change in approach to the situation and bring it on from there.
Get rid of distractions!
It is all possible that your creative soul is not getting that space and silence it needs to chew on ideas in peace. Maybe all the noise from the electronic media, the Internet and the mobiles are distracting and leaving the mind in a state of overstimulation. In such a case, it would be useful to go on sabbaticals where you can stay away from all distractions in the world and work on your writing.
Reduce self-criticism
Another way of improving your writing is by decreasing unnecessary criticism of one’s own work. Changes can be made at any point of time. A great way of motivating the brain to work is through exercise and sleep. Getting lots of sleep, doing couple of runs in a day is sure to let those nerve cell gets recharged. Getting an outline of what you want to see in your writing and embarking upon it is a great idea to get the ideas coming and noting it down.
Experiment with new!
Changes in writing between routine, boring but necessary writing tasks may help you in recharging and refreshing your mind at regular intervals. This will reduce the kind of thoughts that lead to the occurrence of writers’ block.
Develop the habit of writing from consciousness first. Allow the thoughts, whatever they are, to pour out, to run out in whatever form they take. Do not try to force them in a particular direction. Edit them later. So, there are multiple ways of looking at the phenomenon of “Writers’ Block”. Changing your attitude towards it is a great way of overcoming it! So, go for it.
