26. first painting of 2016...done!

silence of the snowdrops
8x10 acrylic on canvas
©the enchanted easel 2016
winter, my favorite season. meet Eyra...."silence of the snowdrops".

this is my most favorite painting i have ever done. i am a winter lover through and through and nothing will ever change that. snow, icicles, cold air, snowdrops....i love all of it. tried a softer color palette for this piece to (hopefully) convey that frosty feel that winter brings and i also tried a bit of a new technique (which i am currently obsessing over)...

MULTIPLE coats of gesso on an already pre-primed canvas. i. am. smitten. i wanted something smoother, something that didn't *eat* the paint like the very lightly pre-primed canvas did. i tossed around painting on wood but then didn't want to have to go down the road of heavy shipping rates being that the wood is considerably heavier than canvas. plus, i love canvas....painted on it since i was a little girl when i got my hands on my first paintbrush so i kind of have a sentimental attachment to it (big surprise, what am i NOT sentimentally attached to?!). anyhoo...i have found that 6 coats (yes, 6) got me the texture (or lack of) that i was seeking. applied in alternate directions (one app-vertical, next app-horizontal...and so forth) with LIGHT sanding in between...paint applied like a dream. time to start buying gesso in buckets...:)

beautiful little Eyra is for sale as a PRINT here  with other novelties featuring this lovely here.

see, winter can be beautiful...:)

*ORIGNAL PAINTING IS FOR SALE. EMAIL ME HERE IF INTERESTED.

27. SNOW, multitasking...and SUPER BOWL BOUND!!!

crazy couple of weeks (hence the lack of blogging-*hangs head in shame*) but i've been busy and that's a very good thing!

another good thing? i FINALLY got my SNOW!!! over 30"....not too shabby!

and what's the greatest thing that's happened to me in the last 2 weeks? wait for it, wait for it....PEYTON MANNING IS SUPER BOWL BOUND!!! (should have just done a whole separate post for this one....LOVE THIS MAN) i cried like a baby. EVERYONE who knows me personally knows how much respect and love i have for this man...and have (loyally) for almost TWO DECADES. never wavered once. knowing this may be his last rodeo, well i want him to go out BIG! no one is more deserving. prayers and fingers crossed for a SB WIN on 2/7/16....although this man will ALWAYS be a WINNER to me! love you, Peyton Manning.

32. DECEMBER DISCOUNT DAYS...DAY 23!

2 days til the DECEMBER DISCOUNT DAYS come to an end. which means 2 days left til Christmas! how the heck did that happen?! wow! talk about time flying by like Santa and his reindeer....geez.

on that note, my tribute (for a lack of a better word) to my favorite musical maven, Tori Amos is today's FEATURED PRINT. it was inspired by one of my favorite songs of her entitled "ribbons undone" (same title as the print). Love Tori. Love red hair. Love bows. Love ribbons...(you get the point).

side note~this piece is also for sale as a COMPACT MIRROR and the ORIGINAL is also available. contact me if interested.

and now the song that inspired the painting...enjoy, friends!

33. DECEMBER DISCOUNT DAYS...DAY 21!

first things first...is it really only 4 days til Christmas?! wow. ok, i digress...

today's FEATURED PAINTING is this sweet little bluebird. reminiscent of spring? i'm sure. fitting, considering this Christmas will not be white (thanks, global warming. you stink). so, little Blue Rhapsody here is trying to make it easier on me...the warm temps in DECEMBER. :(

36. happy birthday to this legend!!!

starry eyed mickey
12x12 acrylic on canvas
i debated whether or not to *share* this on my blog (as you won't find it on my website or my public facebook page) because it's disney and we all know how disney is with their characters/copyrights (rightfully so). however...

after some dark days recently in the world (and the fact that it is this legend's birthday today) well, i thought i would brighten up the times with some COLOR and HAPPINESS! i mean c'mon, how can you not SMILE when you see Mickey Mouse?! :)

***{i am NOT a fan of painting other people's characters, especially so spot on, for obvious reasons although i know people do it all the time. this was a special request from a friend who is a HUGE Mickey fan. my head is overflowing with ideas for my own work so therefore i am NOT taking commissions for things such as this. anything else, please don't hesitate to contact me for something special...be it a custom painting or drawing. i'd be more than happy to accommodate you.}***

this guy though...not too shabby for 87, eh? ;)

40. Family Holiday

I created this illustration years ago to reflect the "new look" of traditional family gatherings.
Inspiration from a classic Rockwell painting helped get the message across.

41. all you need is love....

doesn't matter what shape, size and/or color.

this piece was a commission from a friend of mine whose daughter i taught a few years back. a bot more about their story here.

it's always a cherished moment when someone calls upon me for a custom painting. it's an even bigger treasure when it's a friend. this piece was truly a pleasure to create.

i am offering a LIMITED amount of prints which can be found here.

onto another commission...:)

42. bad blogger lately....

but for a good reason. :)

have been super busy working on a special commission for the family of a little girl i once taught almost ten moons ago. (yikes, feeling old!)

the mom came to me asking for a custom painting based on the gorgeously illustrated book entitled, "motherbridge of love". in a nut shell, it's a sweet book about adoption...east meets west (u.s.a. and china).  well, i couldn't have been happier to put my spin on parts of that beautiful book.

just about wrapping up this painting this week and i'm so looking forward to presenting it to them. such a lovely mother and adorable daughter, they are....:)

meet serafina, the goddess of fire. PRINTS (AND SUCH) can be found through the shop links here. also, the ORIGINAL PAINTING is FOR SALE. contact me if interested and please place the word SERAFINA in the subject line so i don't mistake it for spam/junk mail.

47. Taking a "mini" break.

I'm in between children's book projects and have a few days to work on miniature paintings. Here is the latest mini.

Prairie Dog with selected frame.

I think the title will be: Prairie Dog. It was painted with acrylic paint and is 3x4 inches. I started the painting last January as a demonstration piece at the Leepa-Rattner Museum of Art (on the campus of St. Petersburg College in Tarpon Springs, Florida).

Painting demo for Miniature Art Society of Florida (MASF).

Working from photo reference.
I  purchased the magnifying visor for painting miniatures but they just didn't work for me... returned them and went back to a hand-held magnifying glass.

I hope to finish a couple more miniatures in the next few months. I'll need a few more "mini" breaks.

thought this painting from last year entitled "ribbons undone" was perfect for this week's IF theme, "heart".
