29. retro eyeglasses freebie kit

I created a FREE Retro eyeglasses printable for you to download and make!

This is an extra special kit - it includes SVG files so that you can print and cut on your personal cutting machine! But not to worry if you don't have a cutting machine! I have also included a PDF file so you can easily cut these out the old fashioned way with scissors :)

We had a lot of fun trying on the glasses - even our dog Maggie got in on it too. I plan to take them to Karaoke this weekend and play a little dress up. And don't you think they would be perfect for a Mad Men party too!? oh the possibilities!

I've been working behind the scenes here for a little while on this project. It took me a long time to figure out just how to set up my images so they could be print and cut, the usual auto-trace features and other methods I found with google just didn't work with my files... so it took a bit of tinkering... and I am so thrilled that I finally got it working just right!

SETTING UP THE SVG FILES:
There's a couple of little set up tweaks you'll want to make when opening and using these SVGs, and it might be a little different from other SVGs that you've used before, so I've created a handy video for you:

I'm using the Silhouette Designer Edition software which is the upgraded version of the Silhouette software, it will open SVGs (and do lots of other things too) where as the regular edition that comes with the machine doesn't. It's not an expensive upgrade and it's so worth it because then you can use files created by many other fabulous designers who make SVG files too!

CAN I ASK FOR YOUR HELP?
If you have another type of electronic cutting machine (eClips, Scan N Cut, Cricut etc etc), I'd so appreciate a favor! If you could watch the video above to see how I set up my files, download the free Retro Eyeglasses kit, and then let me know if it also works for you with your machine..... I'd be forever grateful! I'd love to also hear what software you are using and any other details you'd like to share.

If all goes well I'll be adding SVG cutting file kits in my shop! Imagine how many more retro ovens cupcake boxes you could make if you didn't have to cut them by hand! I can't wait!

Links to this freebie printable on pinterest, twitter, facebook etc are very much appreciated! Thank you so much for helping to spread the word!

30. hot air balloon printable kit

I've got a new printable kit to share with you! Hot air balloons that hold mini cupcakes in their little baskets! So cute!!

It took me about a full month of designing to get the kit just right. I really wanted to make sure the basket could hold a mini cupcake, the balloon part could also hold treats and candies, they would be fairly easy to put together and look adorable of course!

They come as two separate kits, a pink + green and then another kit that is yellow + aqua blue.

Customize the balloons with names, table numbers etc. It's easy to adjust the text on the included balloon labels right in the PDF, no special software needed! Simply open the PDF in Adobe Reader (which you can get for free) then change the text to fit any occasion: baby showers, gender reveal parties, spring events, Easter, birthdays etc.

Make a hot air balloon mobile to use as home decor in a play room, or nursery (safety first: make sure to keep out of the reach of small children)

I've also created a how-to video with complete assembly instructions:

Click on over to my etsy shop here to see both kits up close!

36. Valentine's conversation heart gift, candy and favor boxes

When I was about 7 or 8 years old, I decided I was going to make Valentine's day cards for my entire class. I knew exactly what I wanted to create: they all were going to made by hand, include Smurfs (Smurfette's for the girls!) and they all were going to have glitter.

I was adamant about the glitter. I worked so hard on all those cards, it took days of drawing Smurfs over and over again and I was very proud of them! I gave the cards out on Valentine's Day to all my classmates and they loved them too - everyone loved smurfs at this time so they were a sure hit :)

I've been crafty again in preparation for Valentine's this year and I've created a new conversation heart kit and a new freebie download for you too!

I'm so excited to share with you my newest kit -- Customizable Valentine conversation heart boxes! This kit comes with SEVEN colors included and the white kit can be printed on to colored cardstock giving you endless color options!

Boxes fit wrapped candies, cookies, small gifts, favors and sweet treats. Perfect for cookie exchange parties too!

And this is the best part -- customizable text! You can adjust the text on the hearts right in your PDF, no special software needed! And these sweet little boxes are not just for Valentine's Day gifts! Simply change the text to fit any party or occasion: New Baby, Mother's Day, Teacher Appreciation, Birthday etc!

I also have a video too, I've got some tips to make these boxes go together in a snap! Hop on over to my Etsy shop for all the details about this kit.

38. i'm in Maxi Magazine

I was so thrilled to get this email in my inbox the other day! The German Magazine, Maxi wrote an article all about my printable kits, and they featured my cupcake candy box kit. Yay!

I called my Dad up right away so he could translate the article for me.... they talked about how you can take just a couple of simple items, paper, scissors, tape add in a template and create something fun and whimsical in no time!

39. retro camper cupcake box printable kit

I'm so excited to share with you my newest printable kit - Retro Camper cupcake boxes!

When I was a little girl we used to spend every summer in my Grandma's Caravan (that's what they call campers in England). We'd all huddle in her camper for a few weeks at a time near Tywyn Wales, and we'd visit the beach, read and generally have a restful summer.

I've created 4 Campers each as a separate kit (Pink, Blue, Green, Yellow). Every Retro Camper printable kit comes with TWO removable cupcake trays - one for standard cupcakes and one for mini cupcakes. Can also be used as a cookie, candy, gift box, party centerpiece, favor box, paper toy, or just as fun decoration for your home!

And the best part -- you can print and make as many as you like for your own personal use! Visit my etsy shop to take a closer look.

41. studio line update

I wanted to give you a quick update to my Studio product line with Ranger. Unfortunately, the line is being discontinued. However, the products are still available  -- so grab them while they last (especially the Multi Medium, which glues just about everything). I know I'm stocking up!

It was an invaluable experience working with the Ranger team these past 5 years. I learned so much along the way and it was a thrill to develop from scratch my perfect "dream" formula for paints and mediums with Ranger's in-house chemist. I'm truly proud of our efforts to provide artists and crafters high quality paints and mediums to create with.

Thanks to all of you who supported Studio Line over the years!

PS:  If you are taking my online class that starts Feb 10th, I've got you covered! The Claudine Hellmuth Studio products will still be in stores for a little while longer, and I will have a handy list of paint/product substitutions for you that will work for the techniques featured in the class - I'm betting you already have everything you need in your art stash already :)

42. cool tools by kevin kelly - a book review

Here's a secret about me you may not know. I love reading catalogs, all types of catalogs, it can even be a catalog for things I would never plan to buy (for example: gardening tools when I live in a tiny DC apartment) I still will read it. By my bedside is the Unline catalog, you get the idea.

So when Kevin Kelly (senior Maverick of Wired Magazine) asked me if I would like to check out and review his new book Cool Tools: A Catalog of Possibilities I said "Yes Please!" (full disclosure: I was given a complimentary copy of Kevin's book to review but received no other compensation).

A few weeks later it arrived at my apartment, I couldn't wait to get it out of the package and settle down with a cup of hot chocolate to enjoy a good read through. It's a heavy book filled with everything under the sun, I was in catalog reading heaven!

Kevin along with his contributors have created product review descriptions next to each item read like a friend telling you why they love something and how useful it is, it's really such a fun read! My copy of this book is now filled to the brim with Post its!

If you are like me and love reading catalogs, getting tips about hard to find items, or just want a fabulous conversation coffee table book check out Kevin's book here on Amazon, or visit the Cool Tools blog here!

Thank You, Claudine! This 5 week class has given me such wonderful Creative Knowledge! I did not know about any of these techniques and now, I feel like a Genius! I am so happy that I had the opportunity to join in on this class. Thank you again and I hope that one day I'll have to chance to meet you in person! You're AWESOME! -Shari
Just have to chime in, too, with a gigantuous thank you, Claudine! I've been a fan for many years and have all your books and a couple videos, too, but having these techniques together in one 'toolbox' has been fantastic. Your videos were great and all the insider tips, added value to the class. One of my favorite tips: cleaning stencils with rubbing alcohol! Thank you again! - RebeccaVT

This has to be my favorite BPC class "so far".  Your videos were great and I learned so many great techniques.  Thanks so much for answering all the questions everyone had.  You did a fantastic job!!!!! - Mary48
Likewise from me! Just let me say how much I've enjoyed this class! I've learnt so much, and the other contributor's examples have been fantastic! And I've really enjoyed seeing everyone's gallery posts! And many thanks for all your positive feedback! Hope to take another class with you sometime! - KayH

CLASS FAQ:
  • Is this class open to International students? - YES! That's what is so great about online classes no matter where you are you can take it!
  • Do I have to buy Claudine Hellmuth Studio products to take the class? No you don't at all. I suggest watching the videos to see which techniques you love and then using supplies that you may already have. Most of the supplies are simple items like paints, mediums and things you probably already have in your art stash and I am always happy to suggest replacement products as well!
  • Do I have to be "present" each day to take the class? no you don't! you can follow along as the class progresses, or check in periodically and download the directions, watch the videos at your leisure! It is *best* if you can follow along with the class as I'll be able to comment on your work and help you, but if you are out of town, don't worry, you won't miss out on any details and you can catch up at any time!
  • When does the class start? February 10th
  • How much is the class? $50 for 5 weeks of instruction! That's only $1.42 a day!
  • How long does the class stay active for those who registered? Students will have "forever access" to the class materials, which means that class will end March 12th (so there will no longer be teacher interaction), but students can go back at any point in time (as long as BPC exists) and access the class materials, gallery and message board! WOW!
  • I am just starting making art/collage: that's great! You'll get a jump just by learning these fun  techniques. It's a great place to start and just play and have fun!
  • I've been doing art and collage for a long time: You can never learn too many techniques in my book! We all have our own ways of doing things and I bet I've got some new things that you can incorporate into your work!
  • Will it work on my ipad? Yes! you can lie on the couch and watch all the videos right on your ipad!
  • I've taken your other online classes, is this one the same? This class was first released in July, and will be the second time we are running it, so if you took the class in July it will be the same content. There are no plans to run it again in 2014. If you follow me closely and watch every single video, or have read all of my books etc etc, you may have seen a few of these techniques before. However, I have updated them with new tips, fresh videos and of course our amazing contributors will show you how they use the techniques in their work! Also I will be there answering all of your questions and commenting on your work in the gallery!

45. free printable christmas tree

I have a freebie Christmas download for you today! A little mini Christmas tree that you can download, print and make. And the best part, it's PINK

I've loved all kinds of Christmas crafting ever since I was really little. When I was 7 years, I started a craft club old complete with invitations, hand outs and supplies for my "club members." For our Christmas craft, I decided our project would be to make a Christmas tree from a pine cone by adding glitter, fake snow and and mini presents (this was a really popular craft at the time). It was a ton of fun and I have such special memories of creating my little tree with my Mom and my friends!

Now, it's 32 years later, and I'd like to share a Christmas tree craft with you! This little tree is out of paper not a pine cone, but feel free to add glitter! I think that will make it perfect!

Are you ready to get your Christmas craft on??

CLICK HERE TO DOWNLOAD THE FREE PINK CHRISTMAS TREE PRINTABLE!  -- file is approx 3MB

It's such an easy project and This little tree will go perfectly with my other Christmas printables, and it'll look super cute all by itself! Add a touch of glitter and make a whole bunch to use as ornaments!

PLEASE NOTE - for best quality do not print using the printer icon on the widget above. Instead click the arrow download button. This will save the high res file to your computer and you will have beautiful crisp trees! :)

50. make a printable advent train!

My friend Amy from Inspire Co made an Advent train to count down to Christmas using my Christmas train printable kit. It came out so cute I had to share it with you!

Image #1 is my shop image of the train and you can see in images 2 and 3 Amy's train that she put together with her son Alfredo! The kit comes with 7 favor box templates so you can fill your train with goodies. Amy filled hers with all sorts of treasures in the boxes, from pencil toppers to chocolate coins. She put the numbers on randomly after she filled the boxes so it's a surprise for her and her son Alfredo each day when they open them as they count down to Christmas. What a great idea!

This would be a great Thanksgiving weekend craft to put together while all the guys are watching football! If you'd like to make an advent train to put around your tree, visit my shop and grab a kit here!
