1. Cover Reveal: Halo of the Sun

Hey everyone!

Excited to be showing you this awesome new cover from Laura Kreitzer! Make sure you pick up the book when it’s out!

Halo of the Sun is the final book in the best-selling Timeless Series, an urban fantasy series by Laura Kreitzer, set to release this winter.
Summary:

No more waiting. War is upon them. The dimensions between the worlds are open and Earth is in chaos. The dead fight the living, and the humans fight the immortals. The streets are stained with spilled blood, and now Gabriella must lead an army of angels to the battle that will end it all.

She’s experienced the dark and the light. She’s known truth, family, and love. And now she must make a choice that could tear it apart forever. There’s not much time. The clock is ticking. . . .

It all started a year ago in a lab. Is the battlefield where it ends? Find out in the explosive conclusion to Laura Kreitzer’s Timeless Series.

Here’s the cover

Halo of the Sun for web previewI really do love the colors, and as always, my graphic design artist goes above and beyond.

Sneak Peek

Wind dashed through the void formed by the dimensional rip, devastating the land. Space and time was a vacuum, ravaging Earth, one mountain, one city, one blade of grass at a time. Matter shattered. People were swept into the fray as a tornado of worlds collided. Ghosting in and out, collapsing in on each other.

Refugees fled the Mediterranean, looking to the angels to end the madness as it spread like a disease across the land. But there was no relief. Nowhere to run. Eventually, the dimensions would be one.

Creatures surged forth from places unknown, places unseen. Dragons, horned beasts, and fire spirits. Sea monsters and winged giants. Angels flew overhead, fighting back the onslaught.

Standing at the brink was a woman. Long, caramel hair cascaded in the chaos, eyes bright, wielding a dagger. Her stance remained firm, regardless of the intensity of the maelstrom and the lightning pouring from her blade. Beside her was a man, golden eyes glowing, shoulders tense. The day was warm and dry, the sky a kaleidoscope of swirling colors as space and suns and gases exploded.

Their hands clasped around the dagger, eyes meeting, then she slid the dagger across their palms. Silver blood coated their skin; neither fear nor pain manifested on their faces, only searing desperation. The man produced an ancient key, gnarled, molded into a pearly dragon. Placing it between their bloody palms, they clasped hands and faced the dimensional tear.

What do you think?

2. Behind the Scenes: VILLAINS

Hi Readers,

Oh how I have missed you! It’s been awhile and I’ve had a lot going on, but I wanted to take a moment to talk about VILLAINS because I wasn’t expecting to do the cover reveal this week and then Kevin went ahead and put it on the Superstars Facebook Group and the response was astounding!

I’m so glad you love this cover. I worked with Emma Michaels to make this amazing thing happen, and because you have called it the “best cover you’ve ever seen in awhile” I wanted to explain just how we managed to get that demon face crossed with steampunk thing going on.

Cosplayers. Well one in particular who has been attending Central Canada Comic Con since 2007 and is a professional make up artist from San Diego. He usually shows up incognito, doesn’t announce he’s there and we play a game afterwards where I go through all the official photos from C4, looking for which costume was his. They’re always so different it’s like playing Where’s Waldo.

I’m usually right, well except the one year I wasn’t right, he wasn’t on stilts, damn, couldn’t get those across the border.

The cover was based on an official picture owned by C4 of my cosplay friend, from a costume he did back in 2009. He doesn’t know it, but that costume became the basis of my character Tor, aka High King Tor. In The Ferryman and The Flame series we see Tor both in his demon form and in varying human forms, sometimes as an 18th century gentleman, sometimes resembling Adrian Paul of Highlander. He’s a shifter and a time traveler.

When I thought about what the novellas were all about it came down to the VILLAINS. Skeleton & Dust is the story of how Tor broke away from the other Valtanyana, created the Flames, and fought in a war against them. Lantern & Poison is Surrender from the Villain’s POV, Blood & Gold is Justice from the Villain’s POV. Light & Spark and Hunger & Smoke are two new novellas that happen after the end of Vulture. This theme of VILLAINS was so strong, I wanted to have one of those VILLAINS on the cover.

What better than a demon faced Tor?

Of course, we also wanted to show his steampunk elements, his gold-lightning eye, and I thought of this cover as being green for some reason. Emma worked tirelessly to combine and splice and blend two photos to make Tor look the way he does on the cover of VILLAINS.

And my cosplay friend is pretty happy he gets to be on the cover of my books.

And if you missed it, here’s the full wrap of VILLAINS

Villains7

What do you think? Will you be picking up a copy of VILLAINS when it’s out?

9. The UtopYA Experience

Imagine five hundred of your friends from all over the world meeting in one place, at one time for a weekend of sharing, hugging and ugly crying and you have what UtopYA is all about.

It’s hard to put into words the things that happen at UtopYA because you have people like Carol Kunz who in the middle of her acceptance speech for debut author of the year makes us all ugly cry when talking about her personal life experiences.

You have people like Lindsay Galloway who not only agrees to go with me on this twenty hour road trip to Nashville, but tells me the moment we get into the van that she suffers severe car sickness and would prefer to drive so she doesn’t you know . . . throw up in my van.

You have wonderful people like Carmen Jenner who travel all the way from Australia for the event, and calls me skinny. SKINNY! Words I have not heard in a very long time.

There was of course a million other friends I should mention, both new and old, Barbara Sheldon, SG Daniels, SM Boyce, Liz C. Long, Amy Evans, Eva Pohler, Regina Wamba, Allyson Gottleib, Melissa Lynn Simmons, Alanna Kephart, Christy Lynn Foster, Chelsea Fine, Misty Provencher, Lori Parker, Ren Reidy, Ali Hymer, Annie Walls, K.C. Neil, Chelsea Starling, Christina Mercer, and of course, Janet Wallace.

I went to UtopYA in 2013 when there were roughly twenty authors set up, Jen Sincero and Jennifer Armentrout were keynote speaking, and I had recently teamed up with Regina Wamba of Mae I Design to make some kick butt covers. UtopYA2013 was that moment I decided to stop lurking in the shadows and to start making my dreams come true.

At UtopYA they have a couple of incredible panels/events, one of which is called, “The Difference a Year Can Make” and the other is the “Closing Ceremonies Open Keynote.” Expect to ugly cry at the second one, but the first one provides an opportunity for authors to come up and say what’s happened to them in the year since their first UtopYA experience, or what’s going on since the first moment they hit publish.

So I missed the panel, but I went to closing ceremonies after speaking with Janet, Regina and Amy about the explosion of awesome in my life. They really wanted me to share it with everyone, and so I got up there and talked about Star Wars. Kevin J. Anderson and Rebecca Moesta wrote a few Star Wars books, and a few Dune books and a few X-Files books and a few other books too like their fantastic space opera series which I’m currently addicted to. They started up an Indie Press a couple years ago and began self publishing their back titles. They did this for other NYT Bestsellers, and then their business exploded, and they began gaining a lot of recognition for what they were doing. They have acquired an amazing team of authors, editors, interns and monkeys.

They picked me up in April, and while it’s one thing to be able to share that news online to the whoever happens to be reading this today, it’s something else to say it to a crowd of roughly two hundred and for those people to be your peers, your friends, the people who pick you up when you don’t believe in yourself and tell you to continue to fight for what you believe in. Being able to come back to those people and say, look! I did it! I believed in myself and I got somewhere! Is the best feeling in the whole world.

UtopYA 2015 is about time travel and if I could I’d travel into the future to see what I’ll be saying during closing ceremonies at UtopYA 2015.

<3 all of you who have been part of my crazy journey, I can’t wait to see where it takes me next.

Cheers,
Rhi

Hi Laura! I guess it's more that the Earth tilted on its axis and moved the polar ice caps to other locations, it was very sudden so we're talking two years of people migrating until they found Temperance and moved.

24. COVER REVEAL: City of Cruelty and Copper by Rhiannon Paille

Morning readers!

I am so excited to be sharing this cover with you today! City of Cruelty and Copper is the first novella in my Temperance Era Series, being released on June 5th! If you’ve known me for awhile and followed my stuff for awhile you will notice that City of Cruelty and Copper is the former Last City on Earth with better title, cover, formatting, editing and some content issues resolved. Bottom line: it’s better.

It’s also super short at 20,000 words, so if you want to be part of a blog tour at some time, I’ll be putting together a sign up sheet for July, so you can enjoy this epic book!

About City of Cruelty and Copper: Nuclear warfare destroyed Earth, setting it off its axis. A group of survivors escaped to Antarctica, discovering a city under the permafrost. Fable Ketterling was thirteen when the bombs went off. She was fifteen when she and her parents escaped. She was fifteen when she found the fountain of youth. She was fifteen when the fountain made her immortal. She was the only one.

Let me know your thoughts on the new cover and title! Are you excited to start this short story series?

Cheers,
Rhi
