Well, you guys, the exhibition went wonderfully. I had such a great time with everyone! I enjoyed watching the Great, Great Showdowns Hunt unfold all week. And I very much enjoyed hanging with all of you in the line that began forming outside the show. You are all super fantastic people! I appreciate all of you so much!
You can see the entire show online on the Gallery 1988 site!
We will be announcing the winner of the trivia contest very soon.
…………
Here are some visual memories for us to all enjoy! Courtesy of many different people. Thank you, everyone!
Katie, of Gallery 1988, is very, very good at hanging shows….

The first fellas in line, Aaron and Josh! Started Wednesday I believe? Good dudes.

The line as the opening grew near. I very much enjoyed visiting the line.

I handed out the special edition “Waiting Patiently” prints to the first 50 people in line…

Here is what the “Waiting Patiently” print looked like…

Here are some shots of the opening, courtesy of Nara….

Fariha was there with her amazing hand-painted nails! Look at this craziness!!

There were 20 unnamed showdowns in the trivia. The sheets that were all correctly answered would be put into a hat and the winner drawn out at random. The winner would then choose a showdown for me to paint for them.

This is Germain from Slashfilm, with his showdown that he personally suggested. Slashfilm has always been incredibly supportive of the Great Showdowns. I love those guys!

Here i am drawing Dan, the discoverer of the final painting in the Great, Great Showdowns Hunt. He is always around.

Here is Elli with here Maleficent!

Here is the gallery just before it opened…

And here it is after…

Ok! That’s it! Thank you so much for copming, everyone! I hope you enjoyed these memories and I hope you enjoy the show! Go see it! It runs through August 2nd!
See you next time! and at San Diego Comic Con next week, actually.

It’s REVENGE OF THE GREAT SHOWDOWNS WEEK! The show opens this Friday July 11th and to celebrate we are doing a scavenger hunt all week! Report back to GreatShowdowns.com everyday to see the next hunt item and location. and post about it when you find it!
THE GREAT, GREAT SHOWDOWNS HUNT
DAY 1
Here’s what’s happening: I will post a little painting from a popular little film once every day this week leading up to the Revenge of the Great Showdowns exhibition on Friday, July 11th at Gallery 1988. These paintings shall be placed into envelopes and hidden somewhere at the location in which that scene happened.
The first person to find this painting shall keep this painting as a gift from me to you! I only ask that you post a picture of the found painting in your possession, so I can congratulate you in front of the world. Tweet it or whatever you like. #GreatGreatShowdownsHunt
This particular painting is from a film with suits in it. Black suits and ties were very popular in this film. Violence was also quite popular later on. But early on these fellas all gather around a table at a diner and discuss Madonna lyrics and tipping practices. Where were these guys dining??
The hunt is on, you guys.
THE NEXT BIG GREAT SHOWDOWNS EXHIBITION!!
Revenge of the Great Showdowns (The Exhibition)
July 11th, 7 – 10pm

I will be there to sign books and whatever else you would like! MARK YOUR CALENDARS!

Hey, everyone! Remember that Ghostbusters painting from the 30th Anniversary Ghostbusters show a few weeks back? Well, Gallery 1988 are making a print of it!
It will be exciting because this print will be sold in a Timed Release, meaning everyone will have 72 hours to purchase it, and once that timeframe is over, they will never be sold again. The signed and numbered edition size will be determined by the amount sold during the release.
It will become available at the stroke of midnight (EST) / 9 PM (PST) Tuesday, May 27th, and stay available through Friday night, May 30th at midnight (EST) / 9 PM PST.
Each print will be $70.00
Keep your eyes on the Gallery 1988 blog for more details!
ALSO: the next stop on the show tour is this Saturday May 17th at 7pm at Gallery 1988: WEST in LA.

You guys, I had the incredible pleasure of visiting Portland to see the new Zombie In Love musical based on the picture book i illustrated with Kelly DiPucchio! It was created and performed by the Oregon Children’s Theater and it was just so so good! I could not believe it. I had a little bit of tears about it i think. And the songs were really catchy, you guys.
Marci Crowson, the director, was kind enough to take us on a little backstage tour prior to the show where we checked out stage miniatures and props. I was super excited to see worm hand puppets! After the show, we signed books for the kids and met the cast. It really was so impressive and just so much fun, you guys. I HIGHLY recommend checking it out! It runs until March 23rd.
There were also a few local cartoonists invited to the show that evening to do some sketches inspired by the production: Mike Russell, Lucy Bellwood , and my buddy Graham Annable even did some sweet cartoons. They are posting them somewhere. i will find out and then add it to this post here.
I would like to share with you some photos of my visit and the play itself. More of the professional production photos can be found HERE, if you are interested. And more from our visit can be found HERE.
Here are some of the professional photos of the production that i definitely did not take. They added school scenes and more build up of Mildred’s character and i loved it! They also added the worms as narrators and moral support for Mortimer. Super cute.
Here is am with the director, Marci Crowson!
And here are the amazing leads Blake Peebles and Madison Wray…
Here’s Mildred’s room, you guys….
The theater was real pretty as well. Reminded me of Shakespeare’s Globe theater, only not a globe shape…
They even had Mortimer’s zombie dog on his coffin couch!
Look at these cute mini sets Marci made for the production team…
Here is the props table. Worm puppets, you guys! Right there on the table!
Signing books and meeting kids…

Mike, Lucy, Graham, and James!

I had my picture taken with the cast. What a splendid cast..

I have just returned from the most amazing trip, you guys. Spent the past week in Paris, visiting bookshops, meeting people and signing books! I had just the best time. Thank you, al of my French friends! And thank you Cambourakis, for being such a great publisher! I am excited to come back to France for future things like this.
Let’s check out some memories!
Here is the poster for Les Grands Duels Du Cinéma at the Cambourakis booth at Angouleme…

The old streets of Angouleme were such a splendid setting for a show. I got distracted by the beautiful buildings though. for the first few days.

This is the Chateau the Cambourakis got for all of us to stay in. It was way out in the countryside and super beautiful to drive to. They had chickens, you guys.

One of the little plazas in Angouleme. Hanging out in cafes is pretty much my absolute favorite things to do in France…

Here i am signing books at Festival. The Cambourakis booth…

Here is the ancient Author Breakroom at Angouleme. It was nuts. You could get coffee or Cognac. Whichever..
Saturday got pretty crowded, of course…

Some of the other great Cambourakis authors: Birgit Wheyhe, Joanna Hellgren, and Will Morris…

Zeina Abirachad, Antonin, and the master organizer Chiara..

Relaxing by the fire in the Chateau with Shane on the piano…

Last meal in Angouleme, prepared by Frederich of Cambourakis. The scallops were the best flavored thing i have ever put in my mouth, i think…

In PARIS! Hooked up with Alec Longstreth and Charles Forsman to check out the catacombs. There are medieval bones down there, you guys…

The Cambourakis offices. In case, you were wondering what they looked like…

I did most of my PAris signings with Shane (S.M.) Vidarri. I enjoyed visiting all of these shops. All very different…

Oh, and Jean-Jaques and Diane Launier of Galerie Arludik gave me a tour of their new museum called Art Ludique! There is a Pixar show there right now that got me real pumped up..

Our last signing of the tour with Joseph Lambert…

Thanks again, everyone! I will see you next tiiiimmeee..

Hey, everyone! It’s holiday season! You are probably looking for gifts for your loved ones. Well, i’ve got some ideas for you. want to hear them?
Ok, here is the Scott C inspired list:
1. GREAT SHOWDOWNS THE RETURN with foreword by Edgar Wright. $15. This will be so fun for everyone. You can play the name the movie game during dinner or at some other family gathering. Whether wearing your PJs or some sort of ball gown dress, this will be an enjoying time for you.

2. Great Showdowns book 1: $15 Or get the first book as well and make it a two pack holiday! Double the family love.

3. Double Fine Action Comics collections: Volume 1 and volume 2 $20 each. If actual comic strips are more your speed then no problem. These collections of those Double Fine comics will really get them pumped. Many lessons to be learned from Knight, Muscle Man, and the two Spacemen.

4. If Dogs Run Free picture book – by Bob Dylan with pictures by Scott Campbell $18. Those kids that you know are probably super into dogs and also Bob Dylan, so this book might be right up their alley. There are at least 200 dogs in this book. Just going nuts.

5. PRINTS: “Caring For Others“, “The Retreat“, “Sharing Time“, and many others. Perhaps, your loved ones live in a place that has walls? Those walls could use some sprucing up and these prints would do just that. A good spruce up. Whether they dig comic books or skeletons or olde timey people, there is probably something here that they will be way into.

6. Gallery Nucleus and Gallery 1988 also have all kinds of original Scott C paintings, prints, and merch that you might dig. Or your loved ones might dig.
And that’s about it for now. Enjoy your holidays, everyone!! See you in 2014.

Hey, look! A NEW BOOK FOR YOU.
GREAT SHOWDOWNS THE RETURN is the second collection in the Great Showdowns series.
This book is similar to the first book just with all new showdowns in it, but there is one big addition that i love. Full page horizontal showdowns! You heard me right. We got some long showdowns in there.
I am incredibly honored for Edgar Wright to have created such a splendid little foreword for the book. He makes films like World’s End and Shaun of the Dead. He is very good at making films.
And here are some quotes from the back of the book:
“Scott Campbell manages to find the whimsy in life-or-death, do-or-die face-offs. They could’ve used this guy at the OK Corral.”
- Patton Oswalt
“Do you like art? Do you like movies? I challenge you to NOT enjoy these delightful and challenging face-offs – let’s go, right here, right now.”
- Bob Odenkirk
“When Scott C immortalizes a film as a Great Showdown, it cements its legacy in popular culture.”
- Gremain Lussier, Slashfilm.com
Here are some shots of the interior of the book:

I suggest you go down to your local bookshop and pick up a copy! If they don’t have it, tell them about it!
(But if you would like, go ahead and order it online as well. I totally will not mind too much.)
SIGNINGS! I will be doing some signings coming up that i will remind you about. The first one is THIS WEEKEND in San Francisco.
October 18 , 7 – 9pm – Spoke Art (San Francisco)
November 1 , 7 – 9pm - My Plastic Heart (Manhattan)

I am very excited to share some news with you!
There is a brand new picture book to be released on September 3rd called If Dogs Run Free with words by the very legendary Bob Dylan and pictures by ME (Scott Campbell) from Simon & Schuster.
It is a book that contains a whole lot of dogs just enjoying themselves all over the place. Which is great because I LOVE DOGS. Even after drawing a million dogs for this book, i am still into dogs.
Here are some examples of what you will find on the inside of the book:

BREAKING NEWS!

Well, that was sure a fun time! It was great to see all of you at San Diego Comic Con year 2013!
Remember the Comic Con Prints? You can now get those prints online!
I would like to share with you some tender memories from SDCC 2013, if that would be alright. please, embark on this memory journey with me…
This was our booth. That’s Olly Moss and Mike Mitchell sitting down over there. and Ben from Gallery Nucleus in the backgroun.. We need bigger signs i think.
Here are some of the people that seemed to have enjoyed the Great Showdowns book.
Lady Wolfman…

And the Joker.. (which means a lot to me because the joker knows what is funny.) (she is the Joker, right? is that a different character i am getting wrong?)

Check out this amazing cross stitch of the Muscleman that someone brought by! I LOVE IT.

And geez louise, this gal had the most amazing hand painted Double Fine Action Comics nails!

One of my crown jewel moments was when Sasha Nein came by! The actual fellow who voiced the character of Sasha Nein in the smash hit video game Psychonauts! His real name is Stephen Stanton. He was a real cool guy. He would make a good actual Psychonaut teacher i think.

But my favorite dude i saw was this guy..
Ok! see you next time!
