For some time now I have been playing with a new style that is more unique and has a "high-end" picture book type feel to it.
Let me explain.
It is a very different working process for me. Usually my work involves doing a lot of drawings beforehand and then inking and cutting out the image. Here I have taken a more free-form approach.
I draw the characters and make a rough plan of the layout then basically go nuts with the scissors and make an enormous mess while piecing together the image. I shall have to take a picture of the studio while doing this to prove how crazy it gets.
I really like the result and it feels very natural for me to be working this way as I am not the neatest person in the world : )
And I like the designed feel to it.
I will be adding these shortly to my website and will see what people think.

Hello everyone,
The last few weeks have been pretty busy for me with various pieces to finish and moving studios.
I was excited to get the latest SCBWI bulletin where some of my illustrations are featured. There is a extremely bad quality photo below.
I also went and saw the Curious George exhibit at the Contemporary Jewish Museum in SF. I had no idea there was such an interesting story behind the books.
The Reys were living in Paris at the time of the invasion and being Jewish had to escape. They packed up their illustrations and manuscripts and rode their bicycles over into Spain and Portugal, eventually making their way to the USA.
What a great story and I encourage anyone to go and see the exhibit- it's on til the 13th March.
Happy drawing everyone.

Hello,
I have been working recently on a new piece. It was for a private commission and I a really happy with how it turned out.
I really like the clean, polished look of the piece and it looks great framed even if I do say so myself : )

Hello!
YAYAYAY My Christmas Cards arrived and I have been madly writing them to send them out. I am pretty happy with the result and I thank PS Print for doing such a good job. It is always a hit and miss affair when sending something off to print.
So after sending out 90 Cards I have 10 left.
If you would like me to send you a card please send me the address to [email protected] and I will even do a little original drawing inside.
Or if you would like to receive an e-version I am happy to do that as well.
Merry Christmas and Happy Holidays everyone!

Hello everyone,
Welcome to the blog of Louise Grant Illustration,
I am a freelance illustrator working from San Francisco, USA.
This blog will just be to update people on the progress of my work.
As I have just moved to the USA I am still in the process of looking for an agent.
One thing I had to do first though was fix my eyes. In the UK, it was suggested by my agent that I do "dot" eyes, something I wasn't too keen on doing but did anyway, Silly Louise should have stuck to her guns. When I arrived in the USA the first thing that was said about my work was to change the eyes back from the dots to more normal eyes. Arg! So I have spent the last few weeks re-doing work and doing new work.
Anyway, here is some of my new work. These are images for "Gary's Gut" a book about a crocodile who has a bit of a problem.....
Thanks for reading and do feel free to check out my website
