1. a busy month…

in the late part of June, Newsday called and interviewed me for the print & online version of  FOLLOWLI  one to watch on Twitter. (the blurb is still up if you would like to take a look). Then the New Hyde Park Herald(the local newspaper) called to do a feature story on my art & my updates on twitter.

Before the interview I started a new illustration for a contest on the website They Draw & Travel.  I had an image in mind & it did take a little longer to finish than I expected, but it came out great! I used panpastel & hand painted it then scanned each drawing in & put it together using Photoshop & Illustrator.     Take a look at all the other artists wonderful work at They Draw & Travel.

2. my newest illustration

This illustration started out as an IF for the word swept…I decided to finish it with an image that’s been in my head for a while.
I used PanPastel on mostly the whole illustration, except for the finest details.  I painted on sennelier white drawing paper with grain.

4. Been awhile…

since I posted.  Yesterday I went back to a painting I started for an Illustration Friday prompt.  I started this using pastelbord,

but this particular board had a little more teeth then I am used to.  I have been working on it with layers & different tools.  An enlargement of a section shows it is very rough, as you can see.

I will be working on this today & hope to finish it soon. ( I have another sketch in the works…)

6. just finished…

this is my finished painting…it will be in the ALNC member exhibit.

I used mainly panpastels…a soft pastel compressed in a small pan (just like an eyeshadow). I found them to be very nice to work with!

9. My new promo card…

I have been working on my promo card for a few weeks…it is a little late in the making, but there were other things to do.  I’ve been experimenting with new pastels & paper.  I bought some pan pastels, (just a few colors, &  they are great for backgrounds)!  I will be buying some more colors soon…I also tried a new paper; I’m not too happy with it, the paper is too thin & it didn’t hold the pastel as well as what I usually use.  Next time I will go back to the Canson Mi-teintes pastel paper &/or pastel board.  Well here is the illustration for the postcard…I drew a mummy for Illustration Friday “SPOOKY” (take a look on my IF page).  It’s b&w so I will be using it on the back of the PostCard.

10. It’s been a few weeks since I posted…

3 Horses

…vacation, family obligations & work.  I didn’t do as much work for myself as I wanted to…but I do have the painting that I am entering in the Art League of Nassau Cty’s fall show.  It is a little different from my other pieces as this is quite small, 5×7 without  frame.  It was created  with a  limited pastel palette.

11. what I’ve been up to…

I recently went through artwork & illustrations that I had put aside…sketches of ideas, work that I did in classes & a storyboard I put together a few years back.  After looking at this sketch and the storyboard, I remembered that I had this image in my head for quite a while and had intended to add more to it in the form of a Picture Book.  I have a few more sketches done, but I feel I am ready to
add to it and continue to work on them to full Illustrations.

14. Plein Air…

Last Friday I went on my very first Plein Air outing with the art league of nassau county.  I had a great time, although I do need to refine my supplies.  After a few sketches, I grabbed my camera & took lots of photos of the other artists.  It was a beautiful day for Art..

15. new painting

Having spent the last few weeks (when I can) on this painting, I finished it…just in time for the ALNC Spring Show.   I worked hard on this one, making sure the drawing was just right before putting down any stroke of color.  I don’t have a title for it yet. It is a painting of the Turn of the Century Days at Roxbury, NY.

16. Spring Fever…

Hick’s Nursery had their annual flower show this week, so I went to take a look.  I took some photos(for future inspiration for illustrations) & bought some pansies, tulips & crocus. (need some color in the garden & want to decorate for Easter) It was a nice show, although smaller than I remember.

It’s been a while since I posted…vacations, holidays, family & some work!  Great inspirations for painting & drawings.  This week I spent most of my time organizing & cleaning up.  I spent some time setting up my pastels & ordered my paper…I have a great idea for a new painting.  (the ALNC Spring show is in March)!  I’ve been working on my website too…

21. Pumpkin Pickin’

pumpkins (1 of 1)Pumpkin & apple picking have become part of a fall ritual.  I went this year with family & we picked our own pumpkins & apples…this year the apple crop was especially good!  I took some great pictures & have plenty of reference shots for future painting & drawing projects.
