Petite is beautiful

I’ve created this adorable little girl, whose name by coincidence is “Cecé” as well. Since she is so tiny, I called her “Petite Cecé”. We’ve got big plans for lots of adventures we’d like to share with you. Big plans tend to have big price tags. Not in this case. Good sales!? The monthly illustration of the issue Communidad from La Nación Newspaper is about the slavery in the modern world. Without any doubt, we seek bargains. But what if we knew that many of these products were produced by people, sometimes children, forced to work against their will and to live in poverty? The globalized economic system gives us access to cheaper products and creates jobs worldwide, but is not in tune with the human rights agenda. Is it possible to achieve the creation of a certificate of “free of slavery”?

¿Buenas ofertas? La ilustración del mes del Suplemento Comunidad del Diario La Nación se refiere al tema de la esclavitud en el mundo moderno. Sin duda, buscamos gangas. ¿Pero qué pasaría si nos enteráramos de que esos productos son producidos por personas, a veces niños, forzados a trabajar contra su voluntad y a vivir en la miseria? Muchas veces, el sistema económico globalizado nos da acceso a productos baratos y crea puestos de trabajo en todo el mundo, pero no está en sintonía con la agenda de los derechos humanos. ¿Será posible lograr la creación de un certificado de “libre de esclavitud”?

Only one Planet

Pope Francis, his Laudato Si. His last Encyclical is the most astonishing and perhaps the most ambitious papal document in a long time. Because beyond the liturgical aspects, it is real, concrete, and possible. It is addressed at everyone on earth, not only Catholics. Our Pope is changing the Church. I welcome it!
My illustration for Community Supplement is about the teachings of Francis for Argentina. Quoting the text by Angie Ferranzini: “There is a call to the conscience of each with the clear intention to awaken… Here and now we have only one planet Earth, our home and we are all inhabitants of the same place. We live in a time of a historical transition, facing the chance to make the big change. But something is wrong (…) Francisco is giving us all the opportunity to vindicate: ‘When we are able to overcome individualism, we can develop an alternate lifestyle and make possible major change in society.’ “

El Papa Francisco, su Laudato Si. La última Encíclica que a más de a uno, nos dejó con grandes esperanzas. Porque más allá de los aspectos litúrgicos, se trata de temas reales, concretos, posibles. Leerla fue refrescante. Nuestro Papa está cambiando la Iglesia. ¡Bienvenido sea!
Mi ilustración para el Suplemento Comunidad se trata sobre las enseñanzas de Francisco para la Argentina. Cito al texto de Angie Ferranzini: “Hay un llamado a la conciencia de cada uno con la clara intención de despertarla: aquí y ahora. Tenemos un solo planeta, La Tierra, nuestra casa. Y somos todos habitantes del mismo lugar. Vivimos en un momento único, histórico, de transición, frente a la oportunidad de hacer el gran cambio. Pero algo está fallando.(…) Francisco nos está dando a todos la oportunidad de reivindicarnos: ‘Cuando somos capaces de superar el individualismo, realmente se puede desarrollar un estilo de vida alternativo y se vuelve posible un cambio importante en la sociedad.’ “

Why everything interesting happens outside the school?

This is my illustration for the current issue of Comunidad from La Nación Newspaper, written by Laura Benbenaste. The story is about educational spaces outside school. Spaces designed for children who are born to be artists, athletes, craftsmen, children who can not find the right support at school. A kind of non-formal education in which kids are taken care of as well as instructed.

La nota del suplemento Comunidad del diario La Nación de hoy, escrita por Laura Benbenaste, propone  espacios en serio fuera de la escuela. Espacios pensados en chicos que nacen para ser artistas, deportistas, artesanos que de todas formas no encuentran un lugar en la escuela.

Espacios de educación no formal, que se tomen el tiempo y la tarea de despertar el interés en cada uno. Donde no esté separado el enseñar del contener.
