1. Children's Learning at Home Activities

Parents are the child’s first teachers. The first thing parent teach their infant is that the world is a safe and predictable place. Preschoolers are taught to be be problem solvers and learn to share by the parents. Despite all the teaching and guiding done by the parents to their children the best gift they can give to their children is teaching them to learning to love books. Reading books help them to be more creative, broad minded and knowledge lover in the future. Start at early stage by reading them children story books and nursery rhymes. Chores & Learning Activities for Kids

In the busy world of today where everyone is busy to make their two ends meet, it has difficult for the parents to give sufficient time to their toddlers. But there are other ways to help young children learn. Toddlers best learn through real hands on experience. Everyday activities can help children learn new and innovative things such as; doing laundry, making dinner, doing other house choirs, the child is learning something new like math, science and literacy concept as parent involve their children in doing daily house hold activities with you.
Activities that can be done to engage children in learning process are;

  •  Counting

Toddlers love to count and counting objects make them happy. Counting cups in the kitchens rack, socks in the laundry, each stair they climb, Apples in the fruit basket, crackers at lunch, or flowers in the garden. Parents needs to show their children how to point out an object as they are counting.

  • Dump and pour

Young children enjoy pouring and scooping. They love to be in charge and independent in doing their own task as well doing things for others. Encouraging them to perform these basic and simple tasks help build fine motor skills and teach them the math concept such as volume and weight as they are pouring and scooping.

  • Build and stack
Children have keen interest in building and stacking. The object like blocks or plastic containers and lids fascinate young children in building and stacking from these objects.

  • Making grocery store list

When planing to go to a grocery store and planing on what items and things to buy involve your child and let them help in making a grocery list. Ask questions and there interest in adding item in grocery list such as, "Do we need milk and bread?” or “What fruit do you want to pick today?". Such activity make your child have a sense of responsibility and in future can manage the task on their own.

Children learn something new every minute of every day, this is often through simple household activities. The trick is to positively capitalize and involve the children in them. Including a child in a daily routine tasks offers a multitude of benefits.

2.

I have been illustrating for various publishers in South Africa for the past five years.
I illustrate using a combination of pen and ink, Photoshop and CorelPaint 10.
I have included a couple of samples of work I have done for these publishers on the 'Education' page.
The 'Various' page shows a sample of other ideas and styles I play around with.
I am an admirer of Quentin Blake, Ronald Searle, Matt Jones and many many more!

23. Geoffrey's Grans

This is a sad tale about 2 sisters who fell in love with the same man. A real cad. The sister he first courted, lost it, and she now lives in her mirror - it's her reflection that's in the real world! The second is more optimistic. She has been waiting for 60 years, and continues to wait! I think it's my Colonel down there that these two damsels lost their hearts to. He looks the type.
Here are some rough ideas ...

24. Jason the inventor

I'm working on an idea for a kiddies story about a little boy who lives in small village with his gran. His gran is a hard-working old woman who works as a domestic in a nearby town. He is a young boy with a special gift for fixing things ... Here are a few ideas for the gran.
