2. The Christmas Story (Told in Pancakes!)

To See the Angel Pancake Tutorial click HERE
An Angel Appeared To Mary: Luke 1:26-33 (NIV)

In the sixth month of Elizabeth’s pregnancy, God sent the angel Gabriel to Nazareth, a town in Galilee, to a virgin pledged to be married to a man named Joseph, a descendant of David. The virgin’s name was Mary. The angel went to her and said, “Greetings, you who are highly favored! The Lord is with you.”

Mary was greatly troubled at his words and wondered what kind of greeting this might be. But the angel said to her, “Do not be afraid, Mary; you have found favor with God. You will conceive and give birth to a son, and you are to call him Jesus.  He will be great and will be called the Son of the Most High. The Lord God will give him the throne of his father David, and he will reign over Jacob’s descendants forever; his kingdom will never end.”

The Birth of Jesus: Luke 2:1-7 (NIV)

In those days Caesar Augustus issued a decree that a census should be taken of the entire Roman world.  (This was the first census that took place while Quirinius was governor of Syria.) And everyone went to their own town to register.

So Joseph also went up from the town of Nazareth in Galilee to Judea, to Bethlehem the town of David, because he belonged to the house and line of David.  He went there to register with Mary, who was pledged to be married to him and was expecting a child. While they were there, the time came for the baby to be born,  and she gave birth to her firstborn, a son. She wrapped him in cloths and placed him in a manger, because there was no guest room available for them.

Jesus is the King of Kings: Matthew 2:1-6 (NIV)

After Jesus was born in Bethlehem in Judea, during the time of King Herod, Magi from the east came to Jerusalem and asked, “Where is the one who has been born king of the Jews? We saw his star when it rose and have come to worship him.”

When King Herod heard this he was disturbed, and all Jerusalem with him.  When he had called together all the people’s chief priests and teachers of the law, he asked them where the Messiah was to be born.  “In Bethlehem in Judea,” they replied, “for this is what the prophet has written:

“‘But you, Bethlehem, in the land of Judah,
    are by no means least among the rulers of Judah;
for out of you will come a ruler
who will shepherd my people Israel.’”

Jesus is the Savior of the World: Luke 2:8-11 (NIV)

And there were shepherds living out in the fields nearby, keeping watch over their flocks at night. An angel of the Lord appeared to them, and the glory of the Lord shone around them, and they were terrified. But the angel said to them, “Do not be afraid. I bring you good news that will cause great joy for all the people. Today in the town of David a Savior has been born to you; he is the Messiah, the Lord.

*The candy cane represents salvation: the red is the blood Christ shed for us and the white represents being cleansed by his blood and being washed white and pure.

Jesus, in this Christmas Season, we celebrate you!

5. Verse of the Day

Colossians 3:23-24
And whatsoever ye do, do it heartily, as to the Lord, and not unto men;
Knowing that of the Lord ye shall receive the reward of the inheritance:
for ye serve the Lord Christ.

This verse has been on my heart recently and it really goes along with our new "whale" series of "No Whaling or Whining." It really puts into perspective the fact that everything we do should be for the glory of the Lord. Complaining really doesn't fit into the mix when we think about it that way. Yikes! I know I've got some work to do on that one...you too?

On a side note, this pumpkin (in the photo above) just mysteriously showed up in our potted planter in the driveway. Apparently my neighbor grew it and gave it to my son but I didn't know that at the time. What a happy surprise!

I took this picture of a squirrel in our front yard. I think squirrels always seem guilty...like their having some party and they don't want to get caught! They hop around and stop completely still when you notice them. So funny!

Happy Thanksgiving!!!

7. Choosing Your Focus

Hi Friends!

Thanksgiving is coming up in our country and it's a time to reflect on our blessings and to thank the Lord for all he's given us. I was thinking about how this totally goes with our new theme, "No Whaling or Whining."

When we first bought our house many years ago, we had tons of problems with it. We had termite damage, spider infestation and problems with our water sewer system. There were other things too but those were the main problems.

At the time, I began journaling a lot about all of my problems. I wrote pages and pages of complaints and I would re-read them over and over again, usually several times a week. I really thought that journaling like this would help me feel better about my problems but it didn't. Shocking I know! Ha!

At some point, I realized how draining my journal was on me. Maybe that's when the Lord got a hold of my heart and brought clarity to the whole thing.

Journaling is good, don't get me wrong. I'm a visual person and I like to see my thoughts down on paper. Maybe your like that too.

But now, I journal my thoughts, pray over them, and if they are complaintful, I give my problems to the Lord and rip them up.

I still journal today, but my journaling style has changed. Now it's sprinkled with funny things or memories I want to remember and blessings the Lord has given us. I'm not perfect and I sometimes go backwards and complain but I really try not to.

Let's make this Thanksgiving season a time to start over. To hit the reset button and to stop ourselves when we begin to grumble and to be thankful for our many blessings.

1 Thessalonians 5:16-18
Rejoice always, pray continually,
give thanks in all circumstances;
for this is God’s will for you in Christ Jesus.

8. New Series in Pancake Art!

Hi Friends!

Today is the start of our brand new series in pancake art on my YouTube channel called, "Lessons from a Whale!" Check it out...let me know what you think!

This whale is actually a Nutella sandwhich: two layers of pancake art whales with a layer of Nutella in-between. We LOVE Nutella! We just recently discovered it. I have a peanut allergy so this is a fabulous alternative!

My son's whale went diving into the jello! It got a little stuck-ha!

Blessings,
Jenni

11. Verse of the Day

Psalm 37:23
The steps of a good man are ordered by the Lord: and he delighteth in his way.

I love this verse and I've been pondering it for over a week now. If you really take it to heart, then you really don't need to worry about today or about your future. God's got it covered. Keep walking righteously in His eyes, trust in Him and He will take care of the rest. I find that so refreshing...don't you?!!

About the Photos:
We brought a cactus garden back with us this summer from the southwest and look it's blooming! How cool is that?!!

The first photo is a little watermelon that my daughter planted in the beginning of summer. It was slow going and she was really hoping it would grow bigger. Of course, it would have helped matters if she actually remembered to water it! Ha! Sadly, it's vine shriveled up and it died. This photo is our only remembrance of it! Maybe next year she'll be more successful with watermelon seeds.

Blessings,
Jenni

12. Verse of the Day

 Psalm 51:10
Create in me a clean heart,
O God; and renew a right spirit within me.

These are a few photos I took this summer of my Mom's blue glass collection.

On a quick note, Focus on the Family is hosting a "Bring your Bible" to school day October 6th. I encourage you to stand up for your faith and bring you Bible. Pray that the Lord will help you be a light for Jesus!

If you would like a Bible, please email me and I would be happy to send you one!

Blessings,
Jenni

13. Why I Force Religion on my Kids

One of the first pancakes my daughter and I made together-Jonah and the Whale

I'm often asked (on my Youtube channel) why I force religion on my children...and why I don't just let them discover what they believe on their own??

I think this a great question really worth devoting some time to in answering. My husband and I train our children but we also encourage them to read the Bible and find out what it says so that they see the truth for themselves. So, back to the original question, "Why do I force religion on my children?"

-The Bible says to train your children
This is obviously going to take effort but it's worth it! Also, please know that I'm not perfect and sometimes I'm better at teaching my kids than other times. Life happens and routines change. Summer threw us off a bit but I'm working to get things back on track. Let me share with you a few ways that my husband and I train our children in God's word and I hope it inspires you with some ideas of your own:
  • Take our kids to church
  • Read the Bible to them
  • Bible lessons with art pancakes
  • Bible lessons with art projects (crafts)
  • Verse of the Day. I have my oldest child read the "verse of the day" from my Bible App on the drive to school. This has led to some awesome Bible discussion on our drive!
  • Pray together. My kids take turns praying for our day on the drive to school, at meals, and also before bed.
  • Have your children memorize scripture. I like to print out whatever verse I'm teaching in art pancakes and put it on the fridge.
  • Be an example yourself! Read your Bible, pray, go to church...put God first! Your children will notice.
 Proverbs 22:6
Train up a child in the way he should go: and when he is old, he will not depart from it.

-It will make them wise for salvation
It's my heart's desire that my children love the Lord and find salvation through Christ. I want to be with them in heaven someday!

2 Timothy 3:15
And that from a child thou hast known the holy scriptures,
which are able to make thee wise unto salvation through faith which is in Christ Jesus.

- Teach children what sin is
You can't rely on the world to train your children on what is sin. The world embraces sin, makes excuses for it and labels it in all sorts of ways so that it appears ok. Sin is not ok. It's important to teach your children about sin, train them on the 10 commandments and to encourage them to walk daily with Christ. Here's a playlist of pancake art videos on teaching the 10 Commandments. Check it out!

Deuteronomy 11:18-21
Therefore shall ye lay up these my words in your heart and in your soul, and bind them for a sign upon your hand, that they may be as frontlets between your eyes. And ye shall teach them your children, speaking of them when thou sittest in thine house, and when thou walkest by the way, when thou liest down, and when thou risest up. And thou shalt write them upon the door posts of thine house, and upon thy gates: That your days may be multiplied, and the days of your children, in the land which the Lord sware unto your fathers to give them, as the days of heaven upon the earth.

-Obedience to God=Blessings
As a mother, I want to see my children blessed and the Bible is clear that following Christ will bring blessings. That's not to say that you'll be free from hardships, but the Lord is faithful and hears the prayers of those that love him. I've seen him work wonders in my life when I trust in him instead of myself.

Deuteronomy 6:18
And thou shalt do that which is right and good in the sight of the Lord
that it may be well with thee, and that thou mayest go in and possess the good land
which the Lord sware unto thy fathers.

-God will direct their path
It's important to have my children follow the path that God has for them rather than a path led by their own way, which leads to destruction. I don't want my kids to follow in a lifestyle led by sin or a life lead by selfishness. It won't end in anything good. There's freedom when you let go of your life and let Jesus take over. He has a perfect plan for your life and for your children's life if they follow his lead.

Proverbs 3: 5-6
Trust in the Lord with all thine heart;
and lean not unto thine own understanding.
In all thy ways acknowledge him, and he shall direct thy paths.

 -Enjoy Fellowship with Christ
I can't imagine going through life without Christ by my side. There's a song by Avalon (link HERE) that sums this up perfectly. No matter what trial you face, He is there. I want my children to enjoy that kind of relationship with Jesus.

I have a little testimony.....

A few weeks ago my kids and I were at Chick Fil-A and my car wouldn't start because the battery in my key apparently went out (I have a key-less car). I tried many times to start the car and the only solution at the time was to find a Walgreens and walk there with my kids to get a new battery. I looked one up on my phone and it was going to be a long hike, so I asked my daughter to pray. I truly believe that the Lord hears the prayers of children. Their faith is so strong! Immediately after her prayer, the car started! What a blessing! I was able to drive the car to Walgreens and there was a worker there who knew exactly how to help me because he had just had a similar problem with his key. He knew how to open the key fobb (which was a mystery to me) and replace the battery for me. What a blessing from the Lord! We were really praising Jesus!

So, don't give up....keep teaching your children about Christ because the Bible promises us that when they are old, they will not depart from it. What a promise!! Hold on to it!

Blessings,
Jenni

14. Verse of the Day

Psalm 37:8
Cease from anger, and forsake wrath: fret not thyself in any wise to do evil.

For copyright's sake, I quoted the verse of the day in KJV, but I honestly prefer the NIV which says that worrying leads to evil.

This week my daughter couldn't find her school folder anywhere and I was kind of freaking out about it because it has all of her reading hours logged in it. I had to really quote this verse in my head many times and pray about it because it was hard not to worry about it. I realize this was a minor thing compared to many other things a person can worry about, but it was hard not to let it bother me.

Anyhow, she actually ended up finding her reading folder on the riding lawn mower. Go figure! I guess she had thrown her school stuff in the garage to go play outside and forgot all about it. I was super excited and I really praised the Lord for helping her find it!

Here are some photos that I took this summer while vacationing in the southwest. Aren't these cactus babies so cute?!!

Another cactus baby hiding in the rocks. We found this little guy in our front yard!

I don't know what these are but I thought they looked like little pineapple blooms all over the top of a cactus in our front yard.

I hope your new school year is going well! It still feels like summer vacation over here when I look at these photos...time to get back to reality!

Blessings,
Jenni

15. Pancake Art Sneak Peak

Hi Friends!

It's been ages since I mixed up pancake art batter but I finally did after a long summer break! Cool Miniature Berry Pies are coming up in pancake art...stay tuned on my YouTube channel (and here on my blog too!).

For fun, I thought I would share with you some of my recent favorites in Christian music and books.

For books, I would highly recommend David Wilkerson's "The Cross and the Switchblade." I got mine from the library but amazon also sells it here.

This is a powerful book that really encouraged my faith and the importance of the baptism of the Holy Spirit! This book is for an older audience though as it has some hard life situations so just keep that in mind.

God used David's "apparent ministry failure" to reach teenagers accused of murder to open doors to minister to other youth for Christ. He really had to step out in faith in many ways, including purchasing the first Teen Challenge ministry house without the funds to afford it (with his wife's encouragement) and how Jesus kept providing along the way.

I love how the Lord really orchestrated his ministry and I hope you're faith will be encouraged like mine was when I read this book to trust in Christ and to step out in faith when you feel led by the Lord to do something. David Wilkerson didn't have a ministry vision when he started out but God led him along the way. Sometimes I think we feel as if we need to have everything figured out and an action plan but I believe that God often works one step at a time...especially for us "scaredy squirrel" types.

I also felt that the "Cross and the Switchblade" encouraged my spirit to love those that hate us. He was threatened by a teen gang member, yet he offered Christ's love in return.

I Peter 3:14-15
But and if ye suffer for righteousness' sake, happy are ye: and be not afraid of their terror, neither be troubled; But sanctify the Lord God in your hearts: and be ready always to give an answer to every man that asketh you a reason of the hope that is in you with meekness and fear:

I also read David Wilkerson's son's book, "David Wilkerson: The Cross, the Switchblade and the Man Who Believed," which again I got at my library but it's also on Amazon here. I enjoyed reading this book to find out more on how the Lord worked in David's life after he wrote the "The Cross and the Switchblade."

Have you read one or both of these books? If so, how did they impact your life?

As for music, here are my top 3 favorites from the summer...
 Hollyn:  Nothin' on You
Natalie Grant: Good Day
Hillsongs: Alive (Studio)

Blessings,
Jenni

16. Verse of the Day

John 14:6
Jesus saith unto him, I am the way,
the truth, and the life: no man cometh
unto the Father, but by me.

There's an old song by Point of Grace that I was listening to this morning in the car that has this verse in it and it's been on my mind all morning. Here's the link if your interested in listening to it also!

Jesus is the way. No matter what your facing, He is able...

There's freedom in that....

Summer is officially over for us but here's a few fun photos that I took.

Bubbles
This was absolutely the best bundt cake I've ever had. It was from Nothing Bundt Cake. It was really rich and very moist. Super delicious!

We ate tons of Mexican food this summer while visiting the southwest.

I'm really trying to get back into a routine with the new school year started and lazy summer days over but it's a challenge. I find myself searching for anything related to "organization" on Pinterest these days. How about you?

Blessings,
Jenni

18. How to Host a Pancake Art Party with Friends

Hi Friends,

Pancake art is super fun and especially with friends! I've hosted many pancake art parties, classroom parties, demonstrations and classes and trust me, people really get into the fun of making pancake art. Even people who don't like to eat pancakes or don't think their artistic, love to play with pancake art. It's just really fun!

So, gather a few friends this summer and invite them over for some pancake art fun! I've put together a few tips to help you create a successful time....

  • First off, check out my Pancake Tips page to see the products I use and the tips I wrote about. This is really important! Most pancake art mixes don't work well for pancake art and you don't want to get frustrated.

  • You can make your batter up 1 1/2 hours before your friends come over. Don't make it up earlier than that because the rising agent in the pancake mix will go flat.

  • If you use a large griddle, two people can share it. I generally try to have 2 griddles for every 10-12 people. If you have more griddles going than that, think of ways to avoid blowing the electrical circuit. I've done this a few times when I've had 3 griddles going at once.

  • If you have more than one griddle going, divide your friends up an assign them a griddle to wait in line for.

  • Decide on a pancake art "theme." It's best if you have a least one pancake art tutorial readily available to show them. Check out my YouTube channel for ideas.

  • Create pancake art colors that fit with your "theme."

  • Provide syrup, candy for decorating your pancakes such as chocolate chips and M&Ms, whipped cream, and sprinkles

Are you planning to host a pancake art party of your own? Tell me in the comments below!

20. Pinwheel Pancake Art Tutorial

July 4th is coming up and I thought I would share with you this fun pinwheel pancake art tutorial that I created!

Supplies for Pancake Art Pinwheels

3 Condiment Squirt Bottles
Blue, Red Food Coloring (I suggest Americolor Soft Gel Paste)
3 Cups
Extras: M&Ms and Popsicle Sticks, cream cheese
Spoons
Large Mixing Bowl
Electric Mixer
Pancake Mix (I suggest Krusteaz Buttermilk Pancake Mix)
Water
Paper Towels
Vegetable Oil
Griddle
Spatula
Syrup

Mix Directions
Add the pancake mix to a large bowl. I typically fill up a large bowl half way up with mix when I make pancake art. Since the Krusteaz mix is a “just add water” mix, you don’t need to measure out the amount. Just add enough water to make a medium consistency. You can always add more water or add more mix to achieve this. You want the batter thick enough to “draw”
with but not too much where it won’t squeeze out of the squirt bottle. Use an electric mixer to get the big lumps out. Divide up your batter into 3 cups. Add the red and blue food coloring to two cups and stir until well blended.  Do not put food coloring in the 3rd cup. This will be your white color. Fill up your condiment squirt bottles with the batter. Lightly oil your griddle with
a paper towel and vegetable oil. Turn your griddle on at 200 degrees.

Start with the red pancake batter and draw a dot. Switch to the blue batter and begin the pinwheel. Follow the photos to see how to draw it.

Compare this step to the previous step because it doesn't look much different than the last step but it does have added lines in red.

Flip the pancake when it's bubbly and looses most of it's shine. Let it cook while moving on to the next step.

Now it's time to work on attaching the stick. Add some batter to the griddle.
Add the stick and quickly add more batter on top
Place the pinwheel on top and let it all cook together. Attach the M&M to the pinwheel with a little cream cheese.

Happy July 4th Everyone!

2 Corinthians 3:17

Now the Lord is that Spirit: and where the Spirit of the Lord is, there is liberty.

I'm not sure what we'll be doing for the fourth of July yet but it sometimes involves a cookout on the grill. What's your favorite way to celebrate July 4th? Tell me in the comments below!!

Blessings,
Jenni

22. How to Get Super White Pancakes in Pancake Art

Hi Friends!

One of the questions I get often on my YouTube channel is, how do I get my white color in pancake art soooo...white? So, I thought I would answer this question today because there are a few different factors that effect pancake art colors.

  • First of all, it's important to check if your griddle has old, leftover sticky oil residue. Sometimes there's nothing you can do about getting this off, other than washing it really good. Still, it's a good idea to check your griddle.

  • If your griddle is old and the nonstick coating is wearing off, this can effect your pretty pancake colors.

  • Consider buying a new pancake griddle if the above two factors are true for you. Check out my pancake tips page to see the griddle that I'm currently using.

  • You don't need to add any white food coloring to get a nice white color (yes there is white food coloring!). Some pancake mixes are not very white. The one I use is very white so check out my pancake tips page if you'd like to buy the same one.

  • Set your griddle for 200 degrees. Any hotter than that, and you risk browning your pancakes too much and ruining the pretty white color.

  • Don't let your pancake cook for too long on your griddle. This can also brown your pancake. When you notice that your pancake starts to bubble, and loose it shine, flip it.

This was a tiny chicken pancake. See how small it is next to the fork?!! Want to make these pancake art chickens? Check out my video below:

Have you ever made white pancake art designs? How did it go for you? Tell me in the comments below...

Hi Friends!

This is officially my first post on my new blog...yeah!!! I hope you'll join my blogging journey with me!!!

Here's a few little mini fruits that I used in my new blog banner. Look how tiny they are in the banner! They don't even look like pancakes!

I recently released on my YouTube channel my new video teaching about "Faithfulness" as part of a Fruit of the Spirit series. Here's a sketch from when I was coming up with ideas and pancake colors.

Want to learn how to make this cutie? Click the video link below....

And on another note....my son has been looking for 4 &5 leaf clovers in our yard and everywhere else he can find them and giving them to anybody who wants them as gifts. So cute!

I'm currently working on my Etsy shop. What would you like to see in my shop? Tell me in the comments below!!!

24. How to Make a Snowflake Pancake

I was talking to my oldest daughter the other day about the "cool group" in school (this is something that is newly coming up in her life) and how I wasn't in that group. Now I think that I was just in that middle group, not popular and hopefully not too geeky.  Do you ever wonder about what group you were in yourself? Now hmm, which group was I in and would others agree? Of course I'm getting old now and school was a looooong time ago. Praise God that our value is in Christ and not in what others think of us, ya know?

And speaking of geeky, I have this winter earmuff type hat that I wear in the winter that really keeps my ears warm but I don't wear it much because I feel too geeky in it (is geeky still a word now? I don't know).

I have a new video up now on how to make a snowflake pancake that I created when our heat in our house was not working and I was almost cold enough to wear my geeky earmuff hat. It was 14 degrees the day that I made this video for you...but of course I didn't break out the hat! I'm sure you would look cool enough in it friends, but I just can't pull off the look myself.

Snowflakes are the theme this month with my kids and boy did I feel like one the day that I made this! If your new here to my blog, I'm teaching my kids the 10 commandments and we are working on the 5th one right now. Snowflakes have a short life and I would bet that most of us would choose to have a long life, which is opposite of a snowflake. The Bible says that if we honor our father and mother, we will have a long life. So the snowflake theme around our house is a good reminder for my kids on what we are working on and how we want an opposite of an snowflake.

Below is the art pancake snowflake video but if the video player doesn't come up, HERE is the direct link.

Exodus 20:12
Honour thy father and thy mother: that thy days may be long
upon the land which the Lord thy God giveth thee.

Our heat is now fixed in our house (Praise God!) and I'm feeling warmer so I won't need to bring out my geeky earmuff hat in public just yet. Phew!

Blessings,
Jenni
