2. We Want You!!!!!

Reading Rally Day will turn twenty this year! For 20 years the Zavala School Community has celebrated reading with a fantastic celebration. Readers share their love for reading through sharing books that reflect their career or favorite hobbies. Top readers get to ride in convertibles and trucks in the parade. The UT Longhorn Band leads the parade that circles the school and ends up on the stage at the Pan Am Center.

Volunteer with us this May the 7th! We need volunteers to read to classes, help with the parade, and have a good time!

8. Harry Potter

I am starting at the very first book and reading them all in sequence! It is so much fun, because you see things the second time around that you did not see the first time. Plan to read them too, so we can have a Harry Potter trivia contest when school begins again!

11. Freeze Pops

You take a good look,
and bring back your books,
at lunch on May 29,
you will feel so fine!
Your brain will say, "Ow!"
but your tongue will say, "Wow!"
So bring your books back,
and have a brain freeze attack!

15. Lindsey Lane

Great News! The author Lindsey Lane will come and talk with classes during Reading Rally Day.

She will read to PreK and EC classes, and will show a powerpoint to the first and second grade classes about how she made a book. She wrote the book Snuggle Mountain, which has great reviews.

19. Picture books are not just for little kids

I made a new picture books for big kids shelf in the library. There are many books by authors like Eve Bunting that only a more mature reader would "get", or understand. The illustrations in some of these books are especially beautiful. If you are learning to read English, a picture book will help you understand the text.

20. R.L. Stein does it again!

The author that bought us the Goosebumps series is back again! This time the series will be called Horrorlands. The Horrorland copies I had were grabbed up by the boys in the Lightening Thief book club, so you will have to wait until they are checked in again. Sorry folks.
