9. Finally get the chance to work on one of my own projects ...

... A cover illustration for one of my own books, quite a sad story (with a happy ending) of a dog that needs a family. Enjoying the freedom of this looser style ....  Oh and er ... it's still snowing.

10. Balloon

Still working on developing my style for the older age group, becoming more fluid with the paint, and paying particular atention to the strength (and cuteness) of my characters ...

12. Cute Red Panda

Still experimenting with style here.  I've set myself the challenge not to use a small brush, nothing smaller than a 2 anyway, except for eyes and nose, so all hairs have been created with a very old large brush, and quite dry paint. Im hoping that it creates a much softer look.

14. Keeping that loose style

Just experimenting putting these characters in a scene/situation to see if I can  keep that loose style whilst adding detail. These two have been scanned on different scanners, hence the difference in colour, this needs looking at...but there aren't enough hours in the day!

16. New Work

I'm currently experimenting with my style, trying to move away from that early years style, loosening up and trying out different media to do this. It's  a process of seeing that works and what doesn't. Not every illustration is a success, in fact at this stage there are many, many more failures than successes! I just have to hang in there and stay motivated!

These two mice were done in Derwent Aquatone and Inktense sticks, then worked and shaped a little more with pencil.

21. Goodbye Pudding xxx

Sadly, on March 18th, my beloved cat had to be put to sleep. Rescued from the cats home in 1997, she became a wonderful companion, and adopted everyone who later came into my life ..my husband, our baby, and yes, even Cookie the dog!

Though let it be said, and I think Cookie would agree with me ... she always held the upper hand!

Always able to lull the dog into a false sense of security, then repay with a smack on the nose!
Even on ‘nice’ days, you could never be sure,
eh Cookie?

Sweet Dreams, Princess is on the shelves in all good Woolworths stores priced £3.99. Its a really sweet bedtime story for girls in particular, but my 2 year old son loves it because of the big yellow flashing star! Also available in Australia ... apparently!
