I am really proud of this app. I want to thank Johnny Byrnes for all his hard work programming this app and for his awesome work on all the sound effects. I created both the book and the app at the same time and I was really overwhelmed working on both at the same time, but they both turned out amazing.

I just don't have the time to work on personal projects very much. I painted this last night for fun. I need to do more of these projects for myself.

Here is a short promo video I created for Spiderbite my newest how-to-draw book for kids. This book actually started out as an app but as I created the characters I just saw a book in my head. So I not only created the app, but a book at the same time. Oh, and this project started in August...so I had only weeks to complete this project. Needless to say I am a bit worn from the whole project, but I am also very excited, because I believe this book and app are amazing. Here is a short promo for the book below-
Here is a
LINK to my web store where the book can be purchased. The book costs only $6.95 and I will sign it to whomever you like and draw a fun picture on the inside cover for you. If you know a young aspiring artist this book will be a huge hit with them.
Here is a sample page from the book:
My brand new book is out and you can purchase your copy of the book today by following this
LINK. This is a really fun book for those kids into drawing scary creatures. I liken the book to a throwback to great shows like "The Addams Family," and " The Munsters." Check it out!

If you click on the posted image you can see it larger. This is an example of my working process for a book I worked on last spring.
step 1 - design: Getting all the elements on the page. getting all four dinos on each page wasn't easy.
step 2- Proportions: Now I need to make sure the dino sizes are all consistent. I'm also looking at the pose and movement. How will they all look together.
step 3- Details: The main detail is personality when I get to this step. So if they are afraid not only does their face show this, but also their body language. Notice they peak around the corner of the hallway, they also clump together as they head down the stairs to see what is down there.
step 4- Ink: I do all my drawing, inking and coloring in photoshop. I work on a Cintiq so that makes it much easier. Whether inking digitally or on paper, don't trace your lines! DO NOT TRACE YOUR LINES! It takes all the movement and life when you trace and will make your drawing look stiff. get loose with your inking, the only way to do this is lots of practice.
step 5- coloring...not much to say here. One thing I will do when coloring is go back and make corrections to my line art if I need to. Sometimes you notice mistakes so allow yourself to go back a fix those mistakes in your process.
Thanks,
Steve

I finally got around to creating a video about my new iPad app "Drawing Animals With Numbers." The app that teaches you how to draw all kinds of crazy cartoon animals using numbers 1-20.

So I am getting ready to go to press on my 5th book published by my very own company Harptoons Publishing. Yes, this is another how to draw book using letters. My other four books were all subject based. Drawing Animals, Sea Animals, Monsters, and Baby Animals. What makes this book different is this is theme based. And what better theme than a haunted house. If you love The Addams Family, and The Munsters, this book is right up your alley. Once again you start with a capital letter and then using line and shapes, turn that letter into one of the many haunts that roam the Spiderbite house. I'm hoping this book not only gets kids drawing, but I want them to write about the Spiderbite house. Who lives here? Why is it haunted? Has anyone ever escaped.

I am also going to use Kickstarter to promote and sell the book. I am a big fan of Kickstarter, but I can't imagine the pressure of being fully funded and then having to deliver a finished product. Would people email me nonstop asking when will they get their book? I just couldn't handle that kind of pressure. So I am going to have the book printed and once the Kickstarter campaign ends I will send the books out the very next day. No waiting, no stress, so sleepless nights for me. I feel I have some really sweet incentives too. I have my new book, plus 4 other books that people can obtain by pledging more and more. I will also have one special pledge item. For $3,000 I will illustrate and design a story for someone's book. I am really hoping that there is an author out there that is dying to get their book illustrated and looking nice and professional. $3,000 is way lower than what I normally charge for a book. I also rarely illustrate self published books with the exception of my own, but I want to help someone else out there make their dreams happen. I only ask that the person familiarize themselves with my illustration style. Also subject matter must be clean, non political and non religious. You know, just a fun, easy going book....like my illustrations. I hope to be able to post on Kickstarter next week sometime.

While I was never a fan of the Flintstones I did always like the wise cracking prehistoric animals.

I'm a huge Godzilla fan so I decided to draw my own version of the Large Nuclear Lizard Reactor. I had to do it in my cartoony style of course. I also posted my drawing process on my facebook page for anyone that wants to see the sketches and inks. I will be at the Chicago Comic Con next week selling my books and teaching kids how to draw cartoons with numbers and letters, so feel free to stop by and check out my work.

I drew this character from Stephen Silver's pose book app for iPad. I will be at the Chicago Comic Con next week selling my books and teaching kids how to draw cartoon characters with numbers and letters. Please stop by and say "Hi," if you are going.

This is a drawing I did based on the film "Son of Frankenstein," starring Boris Karloff and Basil Rathbone.

An afternoon quick sketch and ink of a pirate.

A much better pose for the griffin. Why didn't I draw this one first?
-Steve
The griffin is my favorite mythological creature. I like the griffin much better than dragons, but I hate drawing all the feathers.
-Steve
Finished the little dragon illustration today.

One of my favorite animals is the flying fox. They are cute and ugly all wrapped in one. I love the large hooks in their wings and the way the walk upside down from trees is so cool.
-Steve
I am working on trying to paint my characters so the life is still there...trying to be more fluid and not so nit picky. Keeping the energy in the painting and not over working it in the process.
