I'm making art as much as possible in between the spaces of my hectic family life taking care of my Mom and kids. Which means I'm pretty lacking in the promotional department. Thankfully Red Bubble art shop has come to my rescue. I'm uploading new images every week for sale! While I get get back to drawing, you guys can click here.

A new mural at school! The Buddy Bench. Max was the model for "Buddy" the dog that helped turn this old overgrown wall into a place to make a new friend.
My favorite art store is having a show, "Once Upon A Time" so I made this Cinderella out of the Holiday Trader Joe's Bags. I found chandeliers, dancing, music, wine and glass slippers...

Cinderella At the Ball, 2016 Lois Keller |
I'm painting a cow! She's really fun, and she's almost done, although having a simple design is sometimes harder than a more complicated one because the whole idea is to keep her fresh, light, whimsical and approachable. It's for
San Luis Obispo Cow Parade starting in September. My sponsor is UPS and I'm thrilled to take part in this public event. Check back for the finished piece!

Figures in Landscape by Lois Keller |
Water, its a hot topic here in Los Angeles and all of California. I created this watercolor painting for
The Autry Museum of the American West High Five Art Contest. The topic was how Californians have shaped the landscape. It has been a really interesting subject to research. I also was inspired by the river, and how we are now turning towards it as an essential connecting element to LA.

Summer is here. I'm usually excited to go on outings with the family. Maybe to a museum, the beach, neighborhoods, restaurants, parks and friends houses. A time to explore the city we live. I usually drink coffee and peruse the internet for local events. Today, I wasn't very excited about what the world has to offer.
Enough is Enough! We had to break out our Melt the Guns sign we made, again.

Every year my good friend Bipasha organizes the most fabulous United Nations Fair at Carpenter Community Charter School. She get parents to run a table, most of them have family roots for their booth, and some just want to help the kids explore a new place. Each country offers food samples, displays, and some interactive stuff too.

Sometimes the hardest part about doing these pieces is knowing how far to take them, when to stop, or how much detail pursue. A lot of beautiful things happen along the way, that I want our eyes to just fill in the rest. So I took Meryl this far, I'll pause here and study her and the piece.

"It Might Rain Tomorrow" by Lois Keller, oil on canvas, 24" x 18" |
I spent all day painting the Parent Center at our school, sanded and painted a table for my daughter, and even did draw in my sketch book this morning. Did this qualify as a painting? NO! Any other day it would, but not today, that's what I'm loving about this challenge. It's supposed to rain tomorrow so I needed to bring in some junk from outside and I thought I could atlas glaze some canvases. I love underpainting with Viridian, Raw Sienna, I couldn't find Burnt Sienna, but I did find an Indian Red which I'm not familiar with. I laid it on thicker than a typical glaze. I made a mess. I loved this color, grabbed a canvas and started painting shapes and lines with that Indian Red, it was cool ( I mean warm) and then I got out some more colors, but only had one brush and it was all thick oil paint from this awesome box my friend (Thanks Mark) gave me that has been sitting dormant for two years, and I started to pull out more colors, found a palette knife, a rag, got a few more brushes and....quite possible made the worst painting ever. Ha Ha! It was messy, fun, brilliant, terrifying, and terrible all at the same time. I accept the challenge!

"Response Able" oil on canvas 20" x 16" by Lois Keller |
I finished this one today. (Although I accidentally signed it 2015, which I fixed after I photographed it) Part of my goals for this New Year Challenge, is to finish work, bring sketches to life & ideas to fruition. I found this sketch on a canvas and really don't remember what the heck I was thinking...so I painted it in December, and then was almost done, but not quite happy with my detail or lack there of. But, was also afraid of ruining it. But, today I did it. Glazing, defining and finishing. Ta da, I'm very proud of myself, (obviously) but, I know art is not just about finishing work. What I do know, is that one painting will lead to another and another and I'm super psyched about getting the old art ball rolling again. #30paintingsin30days
