2. Sketches from the family trip to the beach

With my sketchbook in hand, the family spent a great week in Destin, Florida. The following were some of the quick sketches I did.

The top sketch was a family of five. With military precision they found their spot, laid down their towels and coolers, pitched their umbrellas, arranged their chairs and they were in the water with rafts and tubes in 5 minutes flat!

The next sketch was a guy who was wandering along the shore line. With super cool sunglasses, a prominent beer belly and red hair on his head, shoulders and chest, he was the first interesting character to show up in my line of fire.

The next sketch is just a cool dude with beer in hand enjoying the rays.
This next one is a mom. I don't think moms ever really enjoy their beach vacations. This mom would sit just close enough to the water so that she could look down for a few seconds to read a sentence from her novel then look up to see if her kids were OK. Then she looked back down again to catch another sentence. And then -- POP! -- her head was up again looking at her kids. Then back down again for another sentence.

The next illustration is one of her kids.

A very cautious toddler who would only go in up to her ankles. She kept thinking something was swimming around her feet so she never ventured farther out.

This last one is a guy who was completely oblvious to the world, just a enjoying an afternoon snooze. I think he could have drifted to Cuba.

3. Illustration Friday: "Under the Sea"

This one was an illustration done for a colleague's birthday.

4. Illustration Friday: "Speed"

There wasn't enough time this weekend to work on Illustration Friday. However, two previous pieces fill the bill.

The rabbit was a casual doodle while sitting in front of the T.V. that eventually became my business card.

The turtle was for a client who was inspired by my rabbit.

It's amazing the things that happen to you when you doodle.

5. The New Mailer

Well, here's the artwork for this year's first mailer.

Inspired by the "Pirates of the Carribean" movie. Hopefully the promo will be gracing the desks of art directors in the next few weeks, causing wave after wave of phone calls and emails for projects.

6. Day One

Hello everyone.

This is my first blog. I'm an aspiring illustrator hoping to make it in the children's book market. I'm off to a good start having just finished my first project, "You Wouldn't Want to Sail on the Mayflower!", published by the Salariya Book Company.
