Today, I am hosting T.A. Maclagan for the YA Scavenger Hunt!
T.A. Maclagan is a Kansas girl by birth but now lives in the bush-clad hills of Wellington, New Zealand with her Kiwi husband, son and four pampered cats. With a bachelor’s degree in biology and a Ph.D. in anthropology, she’s studied poison dart frogs in the rainforests of Costa Rica, howler monkeys in Panama and the very exotic and always elusive American farmer. It was as she was writing her ‘just the facts’ dissertation that T.A.felt the call to pursue something more imaginative and discovered a passion for creative writing.
Before T.A. tells you about her new book, check out book one.
When your life is a lie, how do you know what’s real? Alexandra Gastone has a simple plan: graduate high school, get into Princeton, work for the CIA, and serve her great nation. She was told the plan back when her name was Milena Rokva, back before the real Alexandra and her family were killed in a car crash.
Milena was trained to be a sleeper agent by Perun, a clandestine organization from her true homeland of Olissa. There, Milena learned everything she needed to infiltrate the life of CIA analyst Albert Gastone, Alexandra’s grandfather, and the ranks of America’s top intelligence agency. For seven years, “Alexandra” has been on standby and life’s been good. Grandpa Albert loves her, and her strategically chosen boyfriend, Grant, is amazing. But things are about to change. Perun no longer needs her at the CIA in five years’ time. They need her active now. Between her cover as a high-school girl—juggling a homecoming dance, history reports, and an increasingly suspicious boyfriend—and her mission in this high-stakes spy game, the boundaries of her two lives are beginning to blur. Will she stay true to the country she barely remembers, or has her loyalty shattered along with her identity?
EXCLUSIVE CONTENT
My Name is Milena Rokva, book 2 of the Alexandra Gastone Duology, is coming this summer!
Before then, grab They Call Me Alexandra Gastone, $1.99 for a limited time at all major ebook retailers! Booklist called Alexandra Gastone “an intricate, debut spy thriller” and Publisher’s Weekly said “…the intersection of action, espionage, and drama makes for solid…entertainment.”

Here's what's on my mind today:
1. YA Scavenger Hunt I'm on Team Red for the YA Scavenger, which begins tomorrow! Stop back and join in the fun. Here are the books you could win:
2. Allergies My allergies have been awful! I'm coughing, sneezing, and feeling downright icky. :(
3. Editing I'm editing for clients this week. Nothing new there, though.
4. Successful School Visit Last week I visited Blairstown Elementary School. I'll be posting about the visit next Wednesday, complete with pictures and why school visits should be part of your promotional efforts if you write for kids.
5. Seismic Crimes Cover Reveal Check out the cover of Chrys Fey's Seismic Crimes, Disaster Crimes book two:
An Internal Affairs Investigator was murdered and his brother, Donovan Goldwyn, was framed. Now Donovan is desperate to prove his innocence. And the one person who can do that is the woman who saved him from a deadly hurricane—Beth Kennedy. From the moment their fates intertwined, passion consumed him. He wants her in his arms. More, he wants her by his side in his darkest moments.
Beth Kennedy may not know everything about Donovan, but she can’t deny what she feels for him. It’s her love for him that pushes her to do whatever she has to do to help him get justice, including putting herself in a criminal’s crosshairs.
When a tip reveals the killer's location, they travel to California, but then an earthquake of catastrophic proportions separates them. As aftershocks roll the land, Beth and Donovan have to endure dangerous conditions while trying to find their way back to one another. Will they reunite and find the killer, or will they lose everything?

SCAVENGER HUNT POST
Today, I am hosting DEIRDRE RIORDAN HALL for the YA Scavenger Hunt! Deirdre Riordan Hall is the author of young adult and new adult fiction. When she's not writing, she's surfing or in pursuit of magic or both. She also has a healthy case of wanderlust, loves salsa, guacamole, and tortilla chips, and dreams about learning to play piano.
Not a day passes when Sugar isn't reminded that she's too much and yet not enough: from Mama who’s eating herself into an early grave, her brother Skunk whose drunken friends harass her, and everyone at school who treats her as if she’s as desirable as a piece of gum on the underside of a desk.
It's not until Even, tall, handsome, and tousle-haired, appears with a motorcycle and a dream that she begins to discover the confidence buried deep within. His plan will carry them far from the one-star town trapping them both; Sugar in a body she doesn’t want and Even in a place he doesn’t like. Bonding over loss and laughter, their growing friendship pushes out the doubt and fear, and the cookies and cake, threatening to consume her.
Just as Sugar begins to see her beauty—inside and out—, and the world beyond the forgotten corner of the state she inhabits, life becomes too heavy to bear. She must gather all her courage to fight against everything she has known to be true and refuse to settle for worthless.
[Insert whatever the content the author will send to you here. This could be a short story, or a password to a website, or a cover reveal, etc. Please check to make sure that it's formatted correctly.]

Happy Monday! Monday Mishmash is a weekly meme dedicated to sharing what's on your mind. Feel free to grab the button and post your own Mishmash.
Here's what's on my mind today:
- YA Scavenger Hunt I'm excited to share that I'm on Team Orange for the YA Scavenger Hunt. It will run from October 1st to noon on October 4th. That means' I'll be posting on Thursday instead of Friday this week. There are tons of books to win on this hunt, so be sure to stop back on Thursday. Oh, and in case you noticed, I am on Team Orange for Our Little Secret, my new Ashelyn Drake title too. :) I'll be sharing exclusive bonus scenes told from alternate POVs, but they'll only be online during the 72-hour hunt, so don't miss out.
- Editing I'll be editing for Leap this week. This is probably the fourth time I'm reading this book, which is why an editor must LOVE your book, because I'll read this at least four more times before the book is published.
- Monthly Newsletter Change I've decided to release my free monthly newsletter on the first of every month instead of the first Monday of every month. The reason is that some months begin on a Tuesday and I feel like it takes to long for that first Monday to roll around. So, expect my newsletters in your inboxes on the 1st from now on. If you aren't signed up to receive my newsletter but would like to, click here.
- I Wrote An Adult Novella? You know me. I say I'll never do something and then, guess what? I do it. I said I'd never write for adults. I'm a children's author. Well, I am, but I just finished a novella for a boxset last week and it's a clean adult romance. So, I guess Ashelyn Drake writes romance for teens, new adults, and adults now. ;)
- Our Little Secret I want to thank everyone who has already posted a review of Our Little Secret on Amazon. Reviews are so important as far as Amazon promoting the book and placing it in the eyes of potential readers, so I really appreciate every review, whether the reader loved the book or it wasn't for them.

Today, I'm hosting Julie Cross! JULIE CROSS is the author of the international bestselling Tempest series. Julie lives in Champaign, Illinois.
Find out more information by checking out her author website or find more about Julie's book here!
Now time for some EXCLUSIVE CONTENT!
Bestselling author Julie Cross teams up with Ford model Mark Perini to pen a poignant and gritty YA novel about love and the dark side of modeling and the fashion industry Eve's time as a fashion model nearly destroyed her-now she's determined to build a career behind the camera lens. But landing a coveted photography internship brings her face to face with her dark past-and her ex. While Eve is snapping pictures, up-and-coming male model Alex is launching his career-which, for him, involves maintaining a fake relationship with his (secretly) underage co-star, Elana. But Alex is falling for Eve, and Eve won't let herself get hurt again. If Alex can pull off a fake love with Elana, can he convince Eve to risk a secret affair with him?
Spotlight Excerpt
And then I see me. The pictures Eve took and pretended to be capturing shots of the view out the window. It’s just my profile and there’s a shadow over my face so you can’t really tell it’s me. I’m also hunched over like I’ve forgotten to stand up straight. Eve catches me staring at myself. She’s now wearing jeans and the pink shirt she yanked from the closet a minute ago. She’s morphed back into College Eve. “Is it weird that I have pictures of you on my wall?”
“You can’t really tell it’s me,” I say, but it is a little surprising. Not weird, just surprising. I don’t have pictures of anyone, including myself, in my room or in my shared apartment at all.
Eve moves beside me and taps the picture I’m looking at. “I like this one a lot. You look human.”
I laugh. “As opposed to alien?”
“As opposed to supermodel.”
“I get it. You’re against Photoshopped models and all that,” I say. It’s a tired argument—though I’d willingly have it with Eve—but it’s not like I can change the world or anything. It’s not like I have any say in what’s done to my pictures.
She pulls two rubber bands out of her long wavy hair, letting it fall loose from the tight bun. I immediately smell her shampoo. “It’s not Photoshop that makes me hate fashion pictures. I edit too. I’m just not as intrigued by images where the subject knows they’re being photographed. It’s like being on trial. You’re going to hide all your vulnerability, all the raw emotion that you get in a real image.”
“So what you’re saying is, if I were to replicate this pose…” I tap the picture in question. “But this time I knew you were taking a picture, I couldn’t make it look the same?”
She’s still staring at the image. “I don’t know. Maybe I’m too biased to answer that since I’m the one who took the photo. Maybe it would only look different to me.”
Just hearing her say that makes me realize how much of her goes into her pictures, and how little of me is actually in a photo from any professional shoot I’ve ever done.
“I think I get it.” I scan all her photos again. “If you don’t include the entire subject in the picture, then people are free to fill in their own blanks.”
I’m not even sure where that came from. It sounded like a Freudian analysis or something. The air must be different on a college campus than in the rest of New York City, and it’s gone to my head.
Eve turns her eyes from the picture and stares at me. “Maybe.”
Her proximity to me becomes the only thing my mind is able to focus on. I didn’t come on this date just so I could kiss her, and I didn’t come into her room for that reason either. Which is why I know for sure, the second her head turns and her eyes meet mine, that it’s exactly what I should do.
I only have to lean in a few inches before my mouth is on hers and her eyes are closing. And there’s nothing to look at or think about, nobody watching us or taking our picture. It’s as easy and natural as taking my next breath, and I know I’m already addicted to kissing Eve before my tongue has even moved past her lips. My hands are going to insist on living in her hair forever, even if it’s really hard to walk around anywhere. And I’m pretty sure my heart is going to beat at this much faster pace for good.
I should have done this five days ago. And every day since.
And don't forget to enter the contest for a chance to win a ton of signed books by me, Kelly Hashway, and more! To enter, you need to know that my favorite number is 8. Add up all the favorite numbers of the authors on the GOLD TEAM and you'll have the secret code to enter for the grand prize!

Here's what's on my mind today:
- Drafting I'm 60K into my WIP, so that means I'll be finishing the draft this week. Yay! My street team, Kelly's Coven, also helped me decide on a title for this book, which I'm very grateful for.
- Different Blog Schedule This Week The YA Scavenger Hunt is this Thursday, so that means my blog schedule will be a little off. I will still be posting my Writer Wednesday, but since the YA Scavenger Hunt needs to stay up as my main post for a few days, I will not be posting a Friday Feature this week. Make sure you stop by to join in the scavenger hunt fun and enter to win a bunch of amazing prizes.
- Editing I have some openings in my editing schedule, which is rare. So if you have anything you need edited, feel free to contact me ([email protected]) and we can discuss what you need and get your scheduled.
- Beta Reading I'll also be working on a beta read for a writer friend this week. :) I always enjoy beta reading, but I've have limited time for it this year.
- Conventions/Conferences I'm really bummed that I have no conventions planned. I won't be at BEA this year. :( I'm SO sad about that. I'm trying to figure out if there's another convention I can get to instead. Any suggestions? I'd love to do one where I can also sign my books.
That's it for me. What's on your mind today?

Join us on April 2-5th to win books and get exclusive content from a bunch of awesome authors. (I'll be promoting The Darkness Within—sharing never before scene teasers—and giving away a copy of The Monster Within.
- Back to Drafting! As much as I love editing for my amazing clients, I'm really excited to have time to get back to my WIP this week! I'm halfway through it, and my characters have been hounding me to get back to work! They're very demanding.
- Reviewing I have two books I promised to review, and I need to make process on them both really soon. Like now.
- Beta Reading I also agreed to beta read for a very talented writer friend, so I'll be working on that too this week.

For the hunt, I am hosting Melissa Landers, who estimaes that she has eaten 37 tons of guacamole in her lifetime. Melissa is a former teacher who left the classroom to pursue other worlds. A proud sci-fi geek, she isn't afraid to wear her Princess Leia costume in public--just ask her husband and three kids. She lives outside Cincinnati and writes contemporary romance as Macy Beckett. * * *
Greetings, scavenger hunters! I’m Melissa Landers, author of the ALIENATED series, and today I’m thrilled to share with you an exclusive excerpt of “Until Midnight,” a free short story releasing in December that takes place after Alienated ends and before Invaded begins. Don’t forget to add “Until Midnight” on Goodreads, because it will also include a multi-chapter sneak peek of Invaded. In the following excerpt, Aelyx has very special plans for his last day with Cara aboard the L’eihr transport.* * *
He knocked on her door, and she answered with a bright smile that told him she’d enjoyed some much-needed sleep. The puffiness had faded from around her irises, leaving behind the clear, vivid blue he’d grown to adore. The affection gleaming behind those indigo eyes made his heart flutter. He loved it when she looked at him this way—like he’d lit every star in the heavens with a mere snap of his fingers.
He loved her.
“Mornin’,” she said, pulling her long red hair into a ponytail. “I’m ready for our mystery date. What’s on the agenda?”
Aelyx lifted a pair of new boots he’d borrowed from storage. “Once you change into these, you’ll find out.”
She glanced at the boots already on her feet. “But—”
“Just take this pair,” he said. “They’re better.”
“If you say so.” She sat down and unlaced her boots, then took a new one from him and tried to put her foot inside. As intended, she didn’t get very far. “Is there something in here?” She tipped the boot upside down until several leafy stalks of l’apoh fell out. Picking one up, she studied it with narrowed eyes. “Is this some kind of alien celery?”
“Surprise,” Aelyx said, splaying both hands for effect. “We’re celebrating Christmas a week early!”
“Okay.” Her ivory brow furrowed. “But what does that have to do with veggies in my boots?”
He shook his head at her. As intelligent as Cara was, she should’ve made the connection on her own. “On Earth, children put vegetables in their shoes on Christmas Eve, then leave them on the doorstep for Santa’s reindeer.”
Her pink lips curved in a smile. “You sure about that?”
“Of course I am,” he said, indicating her laces. “Now, hurry up. Your letterblanket is getting cold.”
“My what?”
“Really, Elire,” he chided. It was her holiday, not his. “The cookie in the shape of an ‘S’ for your family’s last name. You’re supposed to eat it the night before Christmas, but since we don’t have any sweetener, it’s not truly a cookie anyway. More like bread.”
Cara finished tying her boots and joined him in the hallway. “Sounds great, but I still don’t have a clue what you’re talking about.”
He fished a bundle of imitation viscum album from his pocket. “Are you familiar with this? You’re supposed to kiss me if I hold it over your head.”
“Mistletoe,” she said with a grin. She lifted his hand above her ponytail and moved close enough to put a hitch in his pulse. “Now that I recognize.”
“Finally.” He was beginning to wonder if he’d misspelled a word in his internet query. But when Cara looped both arms around his neck and rose on tiptoe, his mind shut to everything but the intoxicating sensations of her mouth against his and the tip of her soft tongue skimming his upper lip. He groaned and opened to her instantly. The scent of spiced citrus filled his head, the warmth of her body heating his blood as they explored and claimed each other all at once. Soon he found a better use for his hands, and the mistletoe fell to the floor.***
