3. Sex offenders or kids playing around: there's a story here - what do you think it is?

The Oregonian's front page story was about two seventh-graders who ran the hall of a middle school, slapping girl's bottoms. For this, they were read their Miranda rights and hauled them off in handcuffs to juvenile jail, where they spent the next five days. Now the two 13 year olds could be facing 10 years in juvenile detention and a lifetime on the sex offender registry. Originally charged with felony sex abuse, they now face 10 misdemeanor charges -- five sex abuse counts, five harassment counts. The boys are scheduled to go on trial August 20th.

Read more here.

So what's the story and who's the audience: is it about a boy who feels unjustly accused, but then learns that girl's clothed bottoms are their own personal property? Or would it be about a boy who does get sentenced to 10 years? (One of the 13 year olds seem pretty freaked out by the 17 yo roommate he had in detention) or about one of the girl's who got slapped? Other?

(Full disclosure: I think the world is getting two black and white when it's really shades of gray. Pretty much everything is shades of gray. Although some are very dark or very light.)
