CBS News video shows the importance of book covers and brings out the question, what will happen to those covers when it comes to ebooks?
Personally as much as I see e-books growing I don't see cover art dying out! The online world is a graphic world and book covers are going to be a big big part of that transition. Just my feeling...
Agree - Book covers will stay. They may become bolder because they will have to have impact at thumbnail size perhaps. But the online world is very visual. I think people will still use them to differentiate between all the choices on which 1 they will click on to read more about.
You know? I agree.
I think covers are still important no matter the medium on which you buy a book from.
A cover is the first thing you see, like a person's face. Imagine you are in a room full of strangers, you rely on faces to see which person to go talk to.
Books are just the same. We rely on that special cover to spark our interest. We might not end up getting that particular book but we sure won't get a book without picking it up first.
ebook "shops" will definitely have displays very similar to real life bookstores where we can choose a book from a shelf.
If you think about it, no matter how advance technology is we always try to recreate traditional life with it. Because that is what we are used to.
Books will always stay and covers will always be there to make books stand out from a shelf. Doesn't matter if it's a wooden shelf or one made out of pixels ;o)
