A few weeks ago, we were joined by two wonderful new publicity assistants, Nick and Bobby. Now that they’re settled in, I decided it was time to harass properly introduce them to you. Hopefully this (incredibly interesting) Q&A will show how lucky we are to have them on board.
Do you speak (or pretend to speak) any other languages?
Nick: Yes, Farsi. My parents were born and raised in Iran. They came to the US to continue their studies at college. They met here in the States and a few years later I entered the picture. My first language was, in fact, Farsi. I grew up in a house where my parents and grandparents both spoke to me in Farsi. I did not learn English until I was in early elementary school. Looking back, this now explains so much…
Bobby: I studied Spanish up until sophomore year of college, but I can’t really call what I do with the language “speaking” it. I also studied some Japanese when I studied abroad, and I can now ask where the train station is, I think.
What is your favorite book that was not originally published in English?
Nick: War and Peace. I read it for the first time a few years back after my brother continuously insisted on my commitment to finishing the behemoth of a book. Finally, I gave in and I am now forever indebted to him. This book is my bible and is undoubtedly this best piece of literature ever created. It is both a beautiful story as well as a deep philosophical piece that proves to be a perpetually modern novel that will never lose its relevance in society. This is the only intellectual answer I will provide, promise.
Bobby: Labyrinths by Borges, which might not count since it’s a collection of short stories. No other author has inspired so many moments of disturbed awe and wonder for me. I like when a book freaks me out enough that I have to leave the room.
Fill in the blank: Don’t stop _____________. a) believing b) ’til you get enough c) the music
Nick: ’til you get enough.
Bobby: Believing, duh.
What’s your favorite viral video?
Nick: Does Michael Jackson’s “Thriller” video count?
Last night, I went to see ECLIPSE with Kate and Ross. We got to the theater around 11:50ish and it was already packed. We were almost about to leave because we didn't want to split up in the theater and three seats together were sooo not happening. Then, in a supersparkly way, three seats opened up in the front row. *freaks*
We grabbed the seats and the energy from the crowd was INTENSE. Screaming girls were all around and everyone was losing it. The majority of the midnight crowd at our theater? They were, without a doubt, Team Jacob. !!! Gotta admit, though, I was/am Team Edward, but ECLIPSE is my favorite book and it got me to a place of being torn between Jacob and Edward. It also was so well written as a possibility for a person (Bella) to be in love with two people.
The action in ECLIPSE was intense, the CGI was flawless (Edward's sparkle was fab), and I liked Bryce Dallas Howard as Victoria. More romance and Jacob/Bella time was definitely lacking for me as were more talking/intimate moments between Edward and Bella since they were going back and forth about being engaged. This is an instance where I felt the book was better than the movie. But I still enjoyed it greatly and can't wait for it to come out on DVD. It actually made me want to reread ECLIPSE while the movie is fresh in my brain.
I hope everyone who wanted to see it last night made it to theaters! :) Major hearts to K for going out with me and R for being awesome about seeing another Twilight Saga flick.
I Tweeted pics about everything yesterday AND as if ECLIPSE coming out wasn't enough, Barnes & Noble has released CITY SECRETS!! Yaaay for Canterwood Crest #9!

Just got back from the theater where I picked up three tickets for tonight's midnight showing of ECLIPSE. As long as the BFF is feeling up for a couple hours out, we're planning on hitting the show. I. Am. So. Freaking. Excited.
I've got my light blue "Team Edward" T-Shirt and Kate's wearing her "Team Jacob" shirt.
This is a superfun dream catcher keychain that came with my NEW MOON DVD. I offered it to Kate to match her shirt, but she just shook her head. I knew better than to ask if she'd like to use it, but I tried. :D Instead, I clipped it to my purse.
The theater is going to be CRAZY. It was superintense last time with guys and girls both getting into the vampires vs werewolves drama. There's lots of action in this movie, so I'm betting the girls will be dragging their secretly not-so-reluctant boyfriend along. , Will take pics of the insanity if possible . . . Happy ECLIPSE release and I hope that everyone who's going tonight has so much fun!

Anyone else getting *ridicuously* excited about ECLIPSE? I am about to fangirl out. Seriously. It's my fave book of the four and I'm soooo ready for the movie! I'll be going in my Team Edward t-shirt with the BFF in her Team Jacob shirt. Yep, we're besties who agree to disagree on teams. :)

Thanks so much to everyone who ReTweeted about Operation Teen Book Drop and participated. I left 10 signed copies of Canterwood books around my neighborhood with supercute Aladdin postcards inside. It would be sooo cool if someone reading my blog was someone who found a copy! :)
My to-do list was waaay out of control and I'm tackling it bit by bit today. I've got a ton of writing to do and my apartment is kind of (read: REALLY) a disaster. Plus, Fresh Direct is coming today which means I'll have part of my usual order--3 cases (24 cans each!) of Diet Coke. Y-U-M. Plus, I got a 12 pack of Diet Coke with lime. Felt like mixing it up a bit.
I've got a full week left at home before heading to Oklahoma with Kate for a conference the week after. Soo. . . that means I need to do laundry next week. Or tomorrow. Yeah, ASAP. :)
Also, waiting on something superfun in the mail. I saw these shirts at Target online and got Kate to agree to wear the Team Jacob shirt when we go see ECLIPSE. There will be photographic proof of us in our shirts. I heart them!
So, I'm going to try opening the comments again with the rule that there CANNOT be any HOME SWEET DRAMA spoilers or I'll have to delete your comment. Tell me what you're doing this weekend! :)

Yes, comments are open! Thanks for saying no spoilers, Jess - reading on here was actually what ruined the endings of Little White Lies and Rival Revenge for me, so I appreciate it. I was just in normal topics, not the ones you made for spoilers, but they were there anyway.
My day was pretty fun. I had a Confirmation to go to this morning, and then an after party at their house. I came back from church a little while ago.
Super disappointed because my softball game, which I was totally excited for, got cancelled for tomorrow (something going on at the park we play at), but my dad might take me to the batting cages instead. So that's good :D
Hope you're all doing great!

On a whim, I read that Robert Pattinson was filming REMEMBER ME on 8th Street and University in NYC. I was like, "Do I go, or not?!" I wasn't going to go and then everyone was telling me, "Go! It's R Pattz!"
I hopped on the F and forty minutes later, I was walking around looking for Rob. I walked for about twenty minutes and didn't find him. I was getting discouraged and then I decided to walk a different way.
And then...there was a MASSIVE crowd of girls (and some guys) and I KNEW I'd found the right place.
So, enjoy the pics and video of Rob's latest project. Yay!
The video's still processing, so the quality's a little wonky. It shall improve once it's fully processed!

Well, yesterday I blogged about how annoyed I was with the Harry Potter movie delay. Now, we've got something to fill its place! Summit Entertainment made the announcement that Twilight will now open on November 21, 2008. Woo hoo!!
I'm sooo excited! :)

Okay, am I the only one who has become re-obsessed (not a word, I know) with Twilight? I started rereading it on Friday and am in full-blown "I <3 style="font-style: italic;">Twilight wallpaper on my laptop...yikes. I spend waaaay too much time here when I should be, you know, working.
Back to reading, erm, I mean working!
PS--There is no author interview scheduled for this Friday, but on June 6, I've got author Daphne Grab and she's giving away a signed copy of ALIVE AND WELL IN PRAGUE, NEW YORK. Be sure to stop by and try to win!

Count me in on the re-obsession with Twilight! I reread the books right after finals and couldn't put them down - it was like I'd just discovered Edward & Bella again! We'll be squealing re-fangirls together, Jess. ;)

I honestly couldn't tell you if i'm re-obsessed, i'm still obsessed from the first time i read it! if it dies down, i'll read it again and become re-obsessed!
How did I ever miss out on this one?! First of all, I love Dav Pilkey's picture books, and having made a point to read all of them, I thought that I had. Secondly, Kat Kong looks just like my cat, Richie, famous for having traveled over from England with us and being the most talkative, daftest, lovable cat I know (I also have a nine lives/reincarnation theory about him, but I won't go into that here.) Kat Kong is a "faithful" adaptation of the King Kong story--about as faithful as you can be using manipulated photo collage and telling the story with mice and a black cat. The book has been rated, just like a film (TS for "terribly silly".) Forget 'terribly' silly--it's wonderfully silly! There are some truly ghastly puns, both in the text and in the pictures. So if you like to groan while you giggle, this is the book for you. Dav Pilkey's website has some fantastic "behind the scenes" info about this book, including the storyboards he drew for Kat Kong and it's companion volume Dogzilla, on-line puzzles and printables from the book, and insider tips about how he managed to get his cat, Blueberry, to make such menacingly goofy expressions. In fact, the site in general is quite cool. Stay awhile and play!

Little Red Riding Hood (Pinkney, Jerry) At Night (Bean, Jonathan) Chilly Charlie (Rau, Dana Meredith) Millie Waits for the Mail (Steffensmeier, Alexander) Alligator Boy (Rylant, Cynthia and Diane Goode)
A fabulous bunch this evening! I've had my eye on Pinkney's Red Riding Hood since it made its way through Tech Services. It has a very Christmasy feel, with snow covered woods and cardinals to match the tell-tale hood. Pinkney has had a particularly stellar year, IMHO, with Little Red Hen and The All-I'll-Ever-Want Christmas Doll (which he illustrated) also seeing release in 2007.
But the stand out title for me tonight was Millie Waits for the Mail, about a cow who takes great delight in frightening the mail carrier each day. The unexpected canine behavior reminded me of My Cat, the Silliest Cat in the World by Gilles Bachelet. And why is the cat so silly? Because he's an elephant! I love it when reality is thoroughly turned on its head, yet it still makes sense. And following up on yesterday's post about the success of translated books for children, I'd like to point out that both titles are imports: "Millie" from Germany and "Cat" from France.
I've been asked by a loyal reader (so nice to know you are there!) to keep a running list of all the picture books mentioned in this blog. Look for it in the new year.
