I've been away at the beach. It's a dream here....warm water, soft sand and time resting with my husband and kids. There've been some adventures. Suffice it to say, investing in some water/beach shoes is a must at the beach. My son cut his foot on something the first day in, causing us to need to visit a local medical center for X-rays, and time cleaning it. It wasn't deep, which was a blessing, but the cut needed to be kept from the water for 2 days so that it could heal.
The second day my other son was stung by a jellyfish in several places on his leg and hands. He's got good antibodies though. In between these adventures we've had a blast though. Perfect sunny weather and wonderful waves for boarding on. We're all sunbaked and blessed.

Check out Simon Schama's Power of Art on PBS. I've been lagging in my blogging due to the end of school and Summer Vacation! It's already been an adventure. Vacation didn't even start yet before one of our kids rode in an ambulance to the ER with an allergic reaction. (she missed the last day of school because of it.) Yikes. She's fine now, after 2 more days of hives coming and going. I am so grateful to have her running around full force again.
Give your loved ones an extra hug today.

In 1999, a group of friends from the southern California goth community gathered at Disneyland on the third Sunday in August, for an unofficial Disney event called “Bats Day in the Fun Park“. The next year, more people got wind of the gathering. Year after year, the attendees grew, until 2006, when Bats Day 8 drew approximately 3000! For the past three years, my family and I have been part of this annual event at Disneyland, travelling all the way from Philadelphia.
I still can’t decide which is cooler…. Seeing all the goths at Disneyland or seeing all of the “regular” guests seeing all the goths at Disneyland. Bats Day in the Fun Park 2007 is August 17-19. Hope to see you there!

I'd be more afraid of a Barry Manilow fan than a Goth. As for my daughter - she's been around so many races, religions, cultures, and nationalities that she, at the age of 7 next week, still doesn't know that there is such a thing prejudice (meaning pre-judging someone for their looks, language or behavior). She'd no doubt grab the hand of Marylin Manson and drag him off to play Polly Pockets! But at my age I still struggle with pre-judging - I'll try to keep an open mind for those Barry Manilow fans.
I'm going to try to make this event, Josh. I'll keep in touch.
Funny illo, well done! I've seen this at d-land! Heh... I was a punk in the early 80's (I've dated myself, haven't I?) and I know what it's like to scare people with your looks in spite of being a nice guy. Such is prejudice, eh?
Wow, they look like the Adams family - a very nice family, by the way! Great illustration!
