Such a nice mystical quality to it!
Wow Lolo, this is profound!!!
Mystical and beautiful...truly.
so beautiful and interesting that you made it awhile back. it knew more than you did. or better said your inner you knew more than your thinking you did. hope you are doing okay with all the packing etc. thinking of you, suki
nice combination of all the different elements to make a wonderful new pic. turning that leaf over is sometimes the best move one can make. now if i can only find one to turn over for myself.
michael dailey
Talk about serendipity!!! Stunning!:)
Wow! Very strong idea and interpretation!
i like what suki said. i think the body stores and knows what we may not yet know, and releases that knowledge when it's time.
it seems that you are coming home, lo. and personally i think it's amazing that i will be part of that return. i am very glad.
this piece is indeed mystical. it shows the way...
love
kj
That is one magical and beuatiful leaf my friend :)

So powerful and healing! Thanks, I really feel the inner joy!
very serene!
hey when & where are you moving? we have to move too :( we're trying to get in as many beach walks as we can before we go.
Wow, what an amazing collage. I love the depth. the floating leaves on water. The distance image, the woman in the foreground, all of it. it speaks to me.
Have a good weekend. Some restful fun in there between the packing hopefully.
yea, MAD rocks! I was always fascinated by the back page fold up illustrations.
we have to move back east (DC) for my husband's job. we weren't supposed to move until the fall but just heard he has to get there by july, ugh.
went to a fun clam shack in newport once, had a blast.
Your soul colleges are beautiful. So meaningful.

Really beautiful!
Beautiful! I like the lighting effect on the water.
^_^
Oh, Laurel this is magnificent!~
Also this reminds me of the tarot card, the six of swords, where she traverses a body of water, leaving old sorrows behind...
But your swords are 4 leaves + 1 and do I see an oncoming train?
Waw! packed with symbols and meaning! Beautiful!
Hope you're well.
xo
Love,Suana
Oh my goodness Suana, it does look a bit like a train!
It's a floating temple though.
I think she's on a spiritual path;)

This is gorgeous! Seems to be telling the whole story, as I imagine it to be. A bit forboding, very stressful, but mostly an exciting adventure with so much to gain and so much to learn from.. and isn't it always good to turn a leaf every so often?
What a beautiful piece, Laurel. Such an original view.
Wonderful and full of magic, love it

A beautiful piece! Inspiring and uplifting. Its one of my favorites this week. Well done!
Thanks everyone :)
I got a message tonight that my brother is out of intensive care and is talking. He's even being offered real food but he's such a guy about town he's having a personal chef (friend) bring him something a little more palatable!
He has a long way to go yet but this is very encouraging. I'm going to try to call tomorrow and see if he'll take my call. If he knows what's good for him he'll take it!
My brother has been hearing that we're moving back for the past six years. I just want to see his face when we finally unload our belongings in Rhode Island so I can say "I told you I'd be back" and he can say "What took you so long?"
Sleep tight Jimbo, I'll see you soon!
And thanks again to my extended virtual family. I couldn't get through much without you!
xoxo
Lolo
This is so sweet:)
You love your bro' so much. It reminded me of my bro'...he's younger to me. We're good company! Even I wait for my vacations, eagerly, to meet my family.
Your work is BEAUTIFUL! So is your words. Hope you reach where your heart desires, soon.
Fantastic, Laurel, both the image and the words. In fact, I love all your recent work that I've missed out on. Your animal mandala -- how incredible is that! I'm so glad to hear your brother is doing better. I am adding my prayers to those already floating that your brother goes home soon.
Very touching words! :)And I think exactly like the wise KJ! :)
So serene and beautiful!
Your sincere thoughts thinking of your brother is so powerful!
Good luck to you lolo and your brother. God is with always you, your brother and your family:)
Dear Laurel
My father always said there's no such word as can't - so I've extended that to impossibilities too - like you! Wishing you, and of course, your brother all the best. Super image for the theme this week. It's always interesting to see what you come up with!
Greetings from KL, Caroline xx
if you are actually seven feet tall and play basketball, i will hug you anyway. then i will refer you for a short stint of counseling.
love you!
What a wonderful post, both the words and the image. I like that--refusing to be pulled down into the dark place. And I love the women reaching their hands. Wow.
agree!!!wonderful collage and wonderful lines!
If the beauty of YOU reaches out to each of us and roots itself into our deepest being...it does that a hundredfold for your brother...peace...light and love...to you both.
A moving piece here Laurel.
Beautiful. I came here because I see your comments on KJ's and Suki's blogs and I love both of them, so I am venturing out into other like minded blogs.

Ants are about to steal the shoofly pie! :O

Mary Oliver
Who made the world?Who made the swan, and the black bear?Who made the grasshopper? This grasshopper, I mean-the one who has flung herself out of the grass, the one who is eating sugar out of my hand, who is moving her jaws back and forth instead of up and down-who is gazing around with her enormous and complicated eyes. Now she lifts her pale forearms and thoroughly washes her face. Now she snaps her wings open, and floats away.
I love that poem. I've never heard it before. But I loved it immediately. The magic in it. Thank you.
Your image is magical too. I'm reminded of the lightening bugs we'd chase after. I don't think I ever knew what they looked liked. (I can see I have some googling to do.)
Wow, beautiful image paired with a killer poem: thank you!
Really cool drawing. I like how magic the figures are.
oh lo, you are so wise. i learn so much from you. i have the honor of being your friend, and i am so glad.
this last line says everything anyone would ever need to ask and ever need to know. thank you for the reminder. it's a question i want to ask myself every single day.
xoxo
Magical is the first word that comes into my mind when I enjoy this beautiful illustration and the poem.
It is powerful, sensitive and meaningful.
beautiful poem wonderful message
i must get up and go do with my life
thanks
thank you, everyone.
I wanted to illustrate the last line of this poem but I just couldn't think of what to draw or paint. I remembered I had a box of my Soulcollages somewhere and when I went through them this image stood out.
I'm glad some of you are reading this poem for the first time. It's a powerful piece, for sure.
new poem for me, wonderful ad powerful image. reminds us that 'life is not a rehearsal!' love ya lots lo.
I am also new to the poem. It would be wonderful if we had quick and fast answers to the question but I think that you spend your life searching for the answer...... finding your way.
Beautiful!!!!
What a powerful gift to stumble upon tonight-although I am always assured of wonderful things when I stop by here.
cat-I'm leaving now to look up the name of the pretty snake I saw this weekend-I should honor him/her by knowing what it was I saw.
hey! what happened to my special little note? :)
(i kinda liked it)
:)
KJ...I realized others were saying almost the same thing and I didn't want to be rude!
You know you're special ;)
(I didn't know what you were talking about when you said 'special note.') I'm quick on my feet huh?
Wicked smaht!!
there is something vey Dave Mckeanish about this one. I like it.
regards,
Neil
Beautiful poem!! it goes very well with your image which has a magical charm of a midsummer night
Lolo, Thanks a ton!
BTW this is a sweet & lovely collage:) It certainly is magical!
I just love Mary Oliver. I can so connect with her way of looking at the world. Your card is a perfect compliment to this poem with the feelings they evoke.
Really wonderful collage! It reminds me of some of Joseph Cornell's work.
Superb! I love your collage - it's just magical! I'm not that familiar with Mary Oliver but enjoyed reading this poem and will definitely have to seek out more of her work!
Oh--I love this collage! Wonderful wonderful colors and images. And though I'm a Mary Oliver fan, I hadn't read this poem before. It reminds me of one of my favorite passages from Emerson's essay "Self-Reliance": "Prayer is the contemplation of the facts of life from the highest point of view. It is the soliloquy of a beholding and jubilant soul. It is the spirit of God pronouncing his works good."
I'm going to print out this as well. Thanks!
Raven sister the collage is amazing. Do you have a collection of cards like that that you made. I would love to go see them.
The card is full of wonder and magic. I love it.
The poem is you. That is how I see you. My mother always said that a person who loves animals is one of the best loving people around. That is true with you.
Did you make the f=bomb image for me. I of course love it.
Have a wonderful day and thank you for starting it off with magic for me.
Love Renee xoxo
1. The picture is outstanding. I love it.
2. Thank you for the image, I love it.
3. Duh, could it be the Raven who sees what others do not want to see.
4. There are two meanings for the word x-ray and they are that you are either being decieved by someone or something and need to look beneath the surface of this person or situation. The other meaning is that you are digging deep within to find out something that has been troubling you. You need to seek the truth in either case.
5. The heel also has a double meaning Laurel and they are oppression and vulnerability.
6. re 4 & 5 because you had the two together wihin the same dream I tend to think that you are making real headway in a situation that has been buried deep and has left you feeling oppressed and vulnerable for years. The really exciting part is that the heels have come off and you are now in loafers which means you are done with those problems as they (think heels under your feet) are not what you are anymore. You are becoming more of what you have always meant to be. What held you tight for a long period, does not hold you in its grasp any longer.
7. Make any sense? That is just what I'm reading.
8. I love you. xoxoxoxo
I was somewhat surprised by this image, pleasantly so, I might add. What a powerful piece! Full of strong imagery that goes well with the poem. So much of the imagination is stirred. Fleeting is what life is really, it's us who hold on...
Happy Monday!
An interesting piece here, Laurel.
Wow! Very beautifully expressed:)
My mind wouldn't fleet away!
powerful...
I just love visiting here!
I like the poem, and I like grasshoppers, and warm summer nights and lightening bugs, and the universe above me.
Beautiful Laurel.
That's one of my favourite poems too...especially that last line. Thanks for the timely reminder.
wonderful poem and illustration
I like the picture and the poem. Mary Oliver is one of my favourite poets.
Wow! Beautiful pieces of art! Perfect for each other. I need to read more in this wild and precious life- never read Mary Oliver- parts remind me of Native Am. myth. Thanks for sharing
This is awesome beautiful...I am glad and thankful that in this one life of mine that I have met you...you bring me richness of soul!
Hi Laurel!!! Thanks for reminding me today how much I love Mary Oliver's work and this poem - especially the last line.

good morning sunshine!!!!
"I will adapt to my surroundings. I will be home."
wow! these words are so sublime...
a whole book can be written on this... so deeeep!
what a pity i cannot see the pic...
This is absolutely lovely and inspiring!
I love how you chronicle your life journey Laurel!
anywhere I lay my hat is home... good luck with the move!! I can't wait until we can finally put down roots too.
LOLO-this is freaking me OUT.
Thursday, at the doctor's office I was lying on the table focusing on a painting I really like to keep my mind off things-it was all pale whites and blues of an Indian woman rising out of the winds and the mountains. I visualized other places women's spirits dwell and thought of wonderful pictures.....and then you post this.
Now I know that our spirits not only dwell in mountain and root, but in each other.
However (like George Burns in Oh God) when I'm gone I'm hanging out with the animals for a few centuries. Right now, because I'm so hungry, I'd like to be a Great White Shark and take a big bite out of an elephant seal (sorry mr. seal, but I'm starving).
Lolo's readers who don't know me-I really AM hungry and am really not a fierce person.
When I opened this site and saw the picture...my mind immediately went biblical and said, "Yes this is what is meant by the tree of life."
Laying down a root and aging within it and finally becoming an aged hardwood, indestructible by the vagaries of time.
Each growing wrinkle adding strength to the bark. It is a contemplative thing art of yours.
Amazing piece, and an amazing piece of synchronicity!
This is so interesting.
While looking at this card, not knowing yet what it was I saw:
a woman standing in the woods holding up a painting of roots saying her lines in a play performance outdoors.
I'm glad the words and pictures bring you feelings of comfort about your coming move.
Incredible and so meaningful. Your art always carries so much emotion and touches my soul.
I am so eager to set down roots, too. :)
Laurel did you write the words. They are beautiful. One of the many reasons why I find you so beautiful.
When you write, I proceed to melt.
Love your raven sister.
xoxoxo
Maybe she won't be so cranky with you around her. I know I wouldn't.
I still love that on the envelope. xoxoxo
Dear Laurel,
This is so perfect for where you are in your life. May your roots grow deep and wide in RI just like your heart.....deep and wide. I think I hear the trees of RI calling your name.
Love and friendship, Nancy B.
This is indeed a really Soulful post!!!I loved the interpretation. Loved yout houghts on it as well.
Thanks for your kind comment in my blog. It really means a lot to me:)
Have a great day!
Hi Studio Lolo,
