1. REM in Vancouver BC

I drove up to Vancouver with BM on Friday to catch longtime favorites, REM, play at Deer Lake Park in Burnaby. The venue was fantastic, a nice green bowl surrounded by trees and a lake. Being up in the front row, however, we didn't really get much chance to enjoy the scenery.

The evening started with The National and Modest Mouse, both of whom were fantastic. My only beef is with the two women who shoved me out of my spot when MM began playing Float On, standing on my stuff and ignoring my deathly stares. I was so mad I wanted to get physically violent, which is something I never approach feeling. It was so incredibly inconsiderate -- I can't believe people do that. Luckily they moved after the set, otherwise I really would have started using elbows and cuss words.

Johnny Marr (ooh, Johnny Marr!)

REM were fantastic as always. Most of their songs were off of their newest album, Accelerate, but REM also played a bunch of the good old stuff, including Disturbance at the Heron House (awesome!!), Gardening at Night, Country Feedback, and Get Up. It was fantastic to hear them play a bunch of stuff that they don't usually play. Surprisingly, no It's the End of the World as We Know It or Everybody Hurts.

Out Came the Mandolin

We were on the Mike Mills side of the stage (of course), so most of my pictures were of Mr. Meat Science, but I also managed to capture their acoustic version of Let Me In, which was pretty awesome (I realized my camera was sideways about halfway through, so it starts out small):

Saturday before heading back to Seattle, BM and I bummed around Robson Street and Granville Island, and made a stop at the Goldilocks Bakery (because what's a trip to Vancouver without a stop at every Pinoy's favorite bakery?), before making the record border crossing back to the States (zero wait time, I'd never experienced that before!).

We also took Chuckanut Drive through Bellingham to head south as it was such a gorgeous day out. The islands were looking fantastic and I only wish we could have had a trip out there as well.

A beautiful weekend, and 2 more days of it to boot! So glad summer is finally here!

2. Christmas is here!

It's been very busy the past few weeks...but sooo much fun! I apologize for not posting so I decided to "gift wrap" everything into one post!

Thanksgiving was great when my daughter visited. We did alot of shopping, talking, coffee drinking, art chat, and we even did Black Friday shopping (including a trip out at midnight!). It was crazy-fun...well...maybe just crazy...but with her I had fun! My stepson also came for a few days and it was nice.

On December 1st, Danville had it's first night-time Christmas Parade. It's our second Christmas in Danville, VA and very special because we finally feel settled. I was one of 3 judges for marching units in the parade...they were amazing! The floats were spectacular and everyone had a wonderful time. My stepson was here with us and he enjoyed it, too. I can't remember ever seeing a small town parade so it was a first for me, too (and I had great seats!). I love small town living - everyone knows everyone else :)

This weekend we are leaving for Winchester, VA to visit my parents and go to our family Christmas dinner. It will be my husbands first time (been married since 8/2005) attending. It will be great to see everyone again!

Artwork has been steady going...yay! I've got our Christmas Cards done - and early, too! I'm going to try and find time for IF and PB this coming week. It helps balance the hectic days!

My stepson and I made Snowmen Bells last weekend (Picture). We used supplies on hand but they still turned out cute! He took his home to his mom and sister.

This time of year...when everything moves fast and starts to blur...take a moment to sit still and remember all that you have to be thankful for. Give to those in need...a little bit can be a big smile to someone on Christmas morning.

Time to get to work and wrap some gifts...happy shopping to everyone!

Hugs,
Deb
