1. Shortbread

I finished my entry for the They Draw and Cook holiday recipe contest. Shortbread!

This was a lot of fun to put together. I did a little demo of it on my website, if you're interested.

I still start out working with paper and pencils, but the final art is all digital.
In the last post I was talking about this 'reindeer style' and how I liked doing it - but that version was pen & ink plus watercolor. I've updated it to be all digital, and I love working this way.

I do try to make at least one batch of this every year at Christmas time - usually a few batches, actually. Its sooo good. It goes well with coffee or tea or milk, and isn't too sweet. I like that its so deceptively plain, but that you can also jazz it up by dipping it in chocolate or sprinkling sugar on top. Go make some!

In other news, I received a nice blogging award from the Online Graphic Design Degree people.

They've made a list of illustration blogs they like, and I'm flattered to be in some good company. Thank you!

Let's see, what else ... tomorrow looks like its going to be 'getting the tree' day. That's always fun (kind of NOT). Oh, I know, I sound grumpy. I just wish I had a magic wand to have it all done is all - the "schlepping of the tree and making a mess of needles in the car and house, sticking it in the stand, trying to get it straight, and then discovering all of last year's lights don't work" part of the process kind of makes me nuts. After its all decorated and I can sit with a plate of shortbread and enjoy it, then I'm OK.

Also, I finally received the wee little envelopes to go with my

2. Yummy Treasury

Thank you Nicky from Nicky Bee Shop on etsy for featuring my Gingerbread Surprise card in this delicious Treasury!
(I'm down there in the middle of the bottom row.)

I painted that piece for my Christmas card a few years back. Its one of the few pieces I have that's all done in watercolors. I love painting that way, and don't know why I don't do more of it! Colored pencils have kind of taken over lately, but I think I'll go back to doing more painting this coming year. Yes, I definitely will.

Nicky has some really cool things in her shop. I love this cookie tin full of Christmas cookie ornaments!

People on etsy are so clever. I'm always amazed at people's ideas and creativity and productiveness (is that a word?).
I'm great at thinking up cool ideas, then tend to poop out before they actually get made. You could (and I have) spent hours looking at all the wonderfully crafty things on etsy. Very inspiring!

I'm baking today, finally.
Two pans of shortbread are in the oven as we speak. Peanut butter cookie dough is chilling and will get baked next. After that its my famous chocolate cookies which are actually Martha's recipe, but don't tell anyone. As for gingerbread, well, we'll see.
The house is smelling really good and the kitchen floor has a good dusting of flour and sugar on it, perfect for sand dancing (you know, the old soft shoe).
