3. Illustration Friday: Tales and Legends

The tale of the little mersquid is a less known among bipeds, but it kills with undersea children.

I did the sketch for this piece earlier this month and I liked it enough that I thought I should paint it, if I ever found the time. So, yesterday I needed to do a painting demo for my class and I thought Miss Squid would be perfect. It worked up pretty nicely, especially when you have a bunch of students watching over your shoulder. Talk about pressure. I was pretty happy with the way it turned out. Enjoy.

6. Theodosia and the Serpents of Chaos by R.L. LaFevers

***Theodosia Throckmorton (Theo for short), the young daughter of the curator of the Museum of Legends and Antiquities in London, is very busy these days. The year is 1906, and the world’s western powers are busily excavating the treasure

9. Gargoyle and viking

Just a couple doodles. The gargoyle came from a visit with a old friend. He had a great book about gargoyles and this just happened. The viking chick was just a quick sketch with a bit of color added.

10. Gallery O' Terror: Jimmy

My son said his name is Jimmy. Who am I to argue with that? I'm not sure where this one came from. I had a paper with this neat texture, so I added a big blob of black and it turned into this. So, enjoy Jimmy. I hope he visits your dreams.

11. Illustration Friday: Blues

Blue ghost in blue. I figured I would do another Gallery O' Terror and combine it with IF.

12. Gallery O' Terror: Witchy Woman

I'm posting this on behalf of Guy. He was going to wait for a week or something, but I say get on with it already. Halloween waits for no man! Tomorrow the living room begins its transformation into the Gallery Of Terror. Mwah ha ha!

Love to all you bloggers,

13. Big ole Sketch Dump

Here is a little sketch painting I did today. I only had the skin tone colors and blue so that's what I used. And, here is a bunch of doodles that were sitting around. Enjoy.

Edit: I just checked my stat counter and saw that 100,000 people have visited my blog since I started it. Wow! Thanks so much for checking out my lame little blog and for all of your kind comments. I really appreciate it.

14. Goblin

I was reading Tony DiTerlizzi's "Evolution of a Goblin" this morning on his blog and my doodling led me to try one of my own. Not as good as his, but maybe it's a less common Utah goblin. Tony is an incredible artist with an amazing imagination. He has been an inspiration to me for ages. My kids and I loved reading his Spiderwick Chronicles books and now we are really looking forward to the movie. Tony rocks.

15. Elk and Elephants

I asked my 4 year old son to give this guy a name. He said his name is Elk. Strange, but I don't question his naming abilities. Later he pulled out his paints and did this awesome elephant in a jungle. Pretty sweet eh? The elephant is blowing his trunk and check out those coconuts on the palm trees. You might be thinking that I helped him, but I didn't. He demanded that I scan it and put it on the computer with my picture. Again, I don't argue with this kid. He can be quite persuasive.

17. "Pedro Stubby Thumb"

It's funny how nicknames stick. This guy could have easily been called "Ears don't match Pedro", but ever since he lost that game of "got your nose" with Twitchy Pete... well, you know the rest.

I was inspired by those guys at Avalanche. They are all doing wanted posters and cowboys. How can you look at that stuff and not want to do a cowboy of your own?

19. Alaska

I didn't post anything last week because my wife and I were on an Alaskian cruise. Beautiful scenery, whales, sea kayaking, wildlife, train rides, tasty food. It was a great trip. I'd reccomend it to anyone. I even took along my sketchbook and some watercolors. Didn't even use them. Okay, I sketched a few things, but very little. At least nothing I would want to post. I think there was just too much to take in or else I was a little seasick. It was a relaxing break from work, but unfortunatly, now it's time to get back to it. Maybe I will feel inspired from the trip and post something Alaska-ish later.

And, so this post has at least some artwork, here is a little sketch painting that I did the day before we left.

20. Doohicky

This is a little doodle that turned out kinda fun. Ink with some sepia washes. I had a small frame that it fit perfectly so, I framed it up and gave it to an old friend of mine named Birk Peterson. He is an amazing old man who builds miniature steam engines--actually, he can build anything. When he saw this little drawing he said he wanted to build it. I believe him. And it will probably work too. If anyone could do it Birk can.

21. Illustration Friday: Camouflage

This was supposed to be a funny illo of a soldier in flower camo hiding in some garden, but this came out of my pen instead. Oh well. I also planned on painting it, but all of my acrylics were dry so, I used some ink that was sitting around. Things don't always work out the way you plan. Sometimes you gotta go with the flow and see what happens.

22. Sketch paintings 06

Here are a few to enjoy for the weekend. We are headed to a family reunion right now. Should be loads of fun. That is, of course, if family reunions ARE fun. Maybe I can get a little sketching in.

More warm-ups to keep the juices flowing. Geez, I'm starting to get a bunch of the little paintings sitting around the studio. Maybe I should sell them on ebay or something? Anyway. thanks to everybody who takes time to visit me here. I apreciate your comments.

Here is another batch of warm-ups. Some good, some not so good. I bet you are all getting tired of seeing these little doodles, but they seem to help me stay in a creative mood. Enjoy.
