I neglected the first rule of BoB.  Consider carefully the judge.  Care-ful-ly.  Knowing the judge of each match may very well change a prediction.  Yesterday, I gleefully proclaimed the winner for today without even noticing who the judge is.  Sarah Mlynowski writes books with edge, even when writing for middle graders. If I considered that carefully, I may have guessed that she would pick Far, Far Away as the winning book in this match.  ***strikes forehead with palm!****  Duh.

That said, her praise of both books convinced me that she chose wisely and well.

No more predictions for me.  My arrogance is justly punished.

Folks, I’ve got some exciting news! Eric Carle, the legendary picture book author, is set to publish his first new picture book in over four years. Mark your calendars because The Artist Who Painted a Blue Horse is scheduled for an October 2011 release.

This is the first book in Sarah Mlynowski’s trilogy of the same name. I’m just finally getting around to it.

This is also the first book I’ve read by Sarah Mlynowski, and I’m sure it won’t be my last. I read the whole thing in one day. It was a quick, lighthearted read, and what I liked best about it was that the characters were real, which is a must in ordinary circumstances, but absolutely essential when the characters are in extraordinary circumstances.

Rachel, with all of her insecurities, was still someone I liked–someone I could identify with. And that was what I liked best about her.

I enjoyed this book very much, and I’ll definitely be checking out Frogs & French Kisses, the second book in the series.
